  3. Maybe he finally kicked the bucket from eating all that crap fast food he reviews.
  4. That place is called The Black Widow and it's a tattoo bar, I don't know...I've never been. I hear it's a bar with a couple of pool tables and apparently you can get tattoos there!? I don't know really know.
  5. oh what the hell... http://www.myspace.com/gr00veh0use
  6. abs1nthe, gimme a holler we you want to take me to go try this place out!! LOL btw, great reviews on your blog! do you ever post at b4-u-eat.com?
  7. (still) Really looking forward to this place opening...
  8. The view Monday night from 230 W. Alabama! (and I didn't have my tripod!) Previous posters asked about rents. I believe they started out at $750 for an efficiency without a view, then up from there. My friend has a studio which is only slightly larger than an efficiency. One note about the apartments, they left the old sliding doors in place, at least on the lower level apartments. I think they should've updated them. Some of the sliding door hardware and the painted area above the sliding door is original too. Regardless, when construction is 100% done and the place get's cleaned up (dusty, etc), concierge in place, plants and decorations, it will look real nice. Don't get me wrong, it's real nice now! The 'cracky' element is still around. Tonight I was bugged for change as I exited my vehicle. But I always see that element in that area. Some things just don't change.
  9. Must've been a pre-opening thing, cause they were closed Monday night as I drove past there to go to Mai's.
  10. These pictures were taken on Sunday 02.12.06 - It was a GORGEOUS day for a little rooftop photography! I can't wait to take pictures at night!!!
  11. increased patrolling for graffiti probably ain't gonna happen, it seems like it's easier for the city to post citations on the buildings rather than the taggers!
  12. I have a friend who just moved in to an apartment at 230 Alabama! Unfortunately no pics of the apartment but here are some great views from the 10th floor! Crappily stitched panoramic image! (click for larger) Medical Center Uptown/Galleria
  13. Pizza Joint? Hardly... Late Night Pie, Star Pizza, those are pizza joints. Dolce Vita is high end pizza restaurant. Valet parking for a pizza joint? I think not. I hate to say it but it's so shee-shee that I'm probably priced out of eating there. Valet parking? C'mon... pizza's are probably $30 at that place.
  14. Haha! At least you didn't get a nail salon or a cell phone place!
  15. This is why you won't find a Whole Foods in Sugar Land, Clear Lake or The Woodlands. Whole Foods won't open a store in an area where they would end up not making as much as the Kirby store. As much as people want a Whole Foods in those areas, there's just not enough to support the sales that the Kirby store makes. A lot of folks in those areas are committed to their Randall's and Kroger's. It's a small percentage of folks who live out in those areas that shop at the Kirby location. I'll wager that you will see another Whole Foods in the Galleria area before you'll find one in Sugar Land. Just my guess.
  16. Texaco Building (Heritage Plaza) downtown
  17. R.I.P. Cactus... Things I will miss about Cactus: Video department Used CD's Live in-store music Things I will not miss about Cactus: Cocky employees who think they know more than you Their poor customer service Overpriced, new CD's Here's the letter that was sent out to creditors, etc...
  18. Teotihuacan on Airline (Mexican) Spanish Flower on N. Main (Mexican) I seem to remember 'families' eating at those places.
  19. The Maple Leaf took out a small ad in this week's Houston Press!! Coming Soon!! w00t!
  20. It's all about maximizing your initial investment. Tear down one house that including land value is probably about 100-200,000 dollars and squeeze 4 "condos" on that one lot and sell them for 500,000 each.... it's all about the money. Oh and the maintenance fees... you gotta pay those for the rest of your existance on that property too!
  21. Thank goodness the Henderson Food Market finally got a new sign! I used to live in the 6th Ward. Loved it. Never wanted to sell that house, but the ex wanted a bigger one, so we sold it. Made a pretty penny, but I've always regretted selling that house, the view of downtown was amazing, we were so close to major freeways. But there was always traffic court (those people park wherever the hell they feel like it) and 4th of July (neighborhood overrun by people who wanted to watch fireworks, you were literally trapped in your house on the 4th) Good times though!
