Place To Dump Tree Trimmings
rsb320 replied to longhorn's topic in Houston Construction, Home Repair, and Improvement
Got a chainsaw and a fireplace? Nah, compost it. I think the city is now rotating junk and tree debris every other month each. As someone said, bagged debris will be picked up on regular garbage days. If I remember, they'll also pick up bound limbs of a certain specification. Check the COH solid waste website. -
Dunvale used to be decent when it first opened, however, it is now grotesque. Still, Meyer Park has it beat on the gross scale.

I like Harry's on Tuam and Bagby. -
Nice. Those buildings Rock!

I saw the 701 on the side of the building and thought that was where Absinthe is. It's been a really long time since I've been there. What's mcc?

I circled the block yesterday and only saw a sign for Aztec. Absinthe is at 701 Richmond.

TECO Paul G. Bell, Jr. Energy Plant At 1615 Braeswood Blvd.

I think he's talking about the yellowish cylindrical object, not the MDA building. I'm not sure what it is, but they tore down a building to put it there. Google maps shows that building partially demoed. I would guess that it's mechanical because it's right in the same area as all of those cooling towers.- 25 replies

There does appear to be a bridge still there, crossing the bayou, under 1-10. I used maps.live.com and rotated the Birdseye view. The train station appears to be behind the top watermark on the original B&W photo. Notice the bend in Main St. The current parking lot does indeed appear to be the site where it once stood. -

It said north of White Oak. See Collins Place and that parking lot? That looks like the spot to me. -
Yeah, and if you squint, you can see the Virgin Mary on the top of its skull.

Looks like Houston has a long history of collisions between trolleys and cars. At least I'm assuming that the trolley damage is a result of.- 40 replies

603 Richmond is on the back side of Absinthe. The lot's got grass growing on it (google maps). I live down the street, I'll have to check it out.

My neighborhood is swarming with bikes and scooters. I always yield to them in my SUV. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be or was I just taught wrong? I mean give me a break, I've never been inconvenienced by a cyclist. Also I would find a pack of bikers 'cool' to look at while stopped at a green light. There's no destination that I need to get to that bad. Downtown has its fair share of bicycles and skateboards during the work week too. These and cars seem to blend just fine. Funny - I saw a (homeless I guess) guy yesterday riding a bike with no tires, just wheels.

I think that's an excellent idea. I love that kind of stuff. -

Wow UHDT sure looks different now. There's a newspaper article/ad on sale on Ebay for MKT Station Houston. It would not let me post the picture here. -
I've put both seasons in my Netflix queue. What's all the hoopla?

This sounds like fun. After my new bike arrives and I have a little training time, I might make it to the Sept. 25 journey. Is the Moonlight Ride still active?

My bike was stolen, so I went shopping for one over the weekend. I went to Super Target and then two different Walmarts. OMG, it's like night and day. I will most likely never set foot in one (Walmart) again, unless I'm in a small town and that's the only thing available. At any rate, I did not find the bike that I wanted and just ordered it from Walmart online. Then I thought damnit, Sears is right there on Main. I keep forgetting that store is open. They need to advertise or something. Has anyone ever been to an urban Target with a parking garage, etc.?

No kidding. Hopefully, we have the summer of '09 behind us. Whew that was a doozy! Of course, I may be speaking too soon.

They did not add another floor this week, so it must be at the top floor. I guess they'll start with the turbine structure now. I'll keep my eyes out for when it's treed. The glass appears to be over halfway installed.

Before long, hopefully, one side will be the northbound line.

That's kind of my impression too, even though I don't know what that big word means. Whew, my drink is strong.

He's an attorney, so certainly he's got the public speaking advantage. Kathy Whitmire was not a really good public speaker (shaky voice) but in my time in Houston, she's at the top as one of our best mayors, along with Bill White. Both had/have a more urban approach to solving our problems rather than the good-ole-boy attitude. Bob Lanier's endorsement adds nothing for me. He was a good mayor, I suppose, but I think he held us back on public transportation among other things. I'm not decided yet and I'm eager for the election season to begin. I don't think her lesbianism will be an issue, whereas I don't think Gene's blackness will either. He just said on CH2! that it would not be an issue in his campaign. And, she's never said "I'm a lezbo, pick me". We need the best qualified and I can't wait to analyze their platforms. Something about the architect dude (Peter Brown) turns me off. How has he performed as a council member?
