  1. Completely forgot about this thread when I read through the proposal recently. It actually was completed in 2010 and has since been posted on the City Economic Development Co's website. The development of the system, with the potential goal of two city bus routes is the main focus. Other highlights feature better sidewalk access as well as the creation of bike lanes in some areas. Even rail transit is briefly touched. http://www.rosenbergecodev.com/docs/1-Rosenberg%20Transit%20and%20Ped%20Plan%20-%20Combined%20CD%20Version.pdf
  2. Funny enough, I happened to be in Waco recently, and was able to get these pictures of the site from I-35. Looked like they were doing some utility work at the time. This is about where the old Hotel Waco used to be. Definitely an improvement over the past few years IMHO.
  3. Checked the leasing brochure again... Looks like Raising Cane's and Capital One may go in at the intersection of Spacek & Reading Roads. Papa Murphy's Take & Bake Pizza also looks like it might be going into the pad near the entrance to 59 on the Phase II side. Last time I drove by, it looked like the apartment complex was coming along pretty well. Forgot the name of the development on Reading, across from SpringHill Suites, but it looked like they were starting to get the foundations or streets in place there.
  4. Here are both parts of the special, for those who haven't seen it... (Part 1) http://youtu.be/6ZphCx8NJWU (Part 2) http://youtu.be/d5ByVw_681Y
  5. Based on what I saw when I was taking pictures near the site, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. Here are a few snaps...
  6. Not sure how often people check this thread, but I actually stumbled across something interesting in the tunnel between the Walker @ Main garage and BG Group Place. Right at the corner, as the path leads up into the tower, there's a historical display regarding the Cotton / Montagu as well as a decent-sized display piece of the top floor facade and cornice. Here are some photos from my recent trip back home...
  7. That hotel was actually demolished late last year. It was the Hotel Waco, an ex-Holiday Inn. There's also a small apartment complex on the waterfront across from the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, which will likely disappear if the Stadium is to be built. I think on that plot there's also a series of transmission lines that feed into a substation on the other side of 35. Might be interesting to see how that's handled.
  8. http://www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/Waco_City_Council_Backs_Baylor_Stadium_Project_For_Public_Use_162821926.html At the very least, fans of the current design may want to take a look. Has some quick fly-thrus/overs of the proposed stadium in the piece.
  9. Looks like this may be back, but with two fewer stories than the original announcement a few years ago... http://www.chron.com...ent-3689722.php
  10. More glimpses from updated leasing information look like that a few more tenants have been tapped. They include... -A Memorial Hermann Clinic (northeast side) -River Oaks Emergency Care Center (southeast side) -Charming Charlie -59 Diner, in place of the Arby's And I'm trying to figure out what the 25ksf development's tenant would be... Any idea?
  11. Aren't these the towers where, as the legend goes, Interfin reportedly paid for the site in full and in cash at some point prior to construction? At around the time they opened, I do know they went a different route with marketing. In a Sunday edition of the Houston Post, they distributed copies of their leasing information. Based on what I remember seeing, they were formatted like circulars from stores or the weekend magazines, at least in terms of their size. Can't say I've seen that done here before, or since. As for the topic - no they don't look new. They look like a good quality period piece, but there's nothing wrong with that. As mentioned earlier, I think it might take some time for them to be appreciated for their contribution to the overall skyline as well as their specific style.
  12. I'd been under the impression that the building would ultimately be six stories anyway, based on the initial post in the original project thread. It was just the more recent articles that hinted at an inflation in the number of floors. Interesting that they would plan for 8 though... just in case.
  13. If I'm not mistaken, that was one of the original visions of the tower(s) planned for the site now occupied by 1600 Smith Street. For a while, the plan called for two towers. I think even the current tower may have had a twin in one plan, with the other being 65 floors and of the same design.
  14. Excellent timing for this then... http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2012/05/pepper-jacks-to-open-in-cabo-space-downtown/
  15. Here are a few more photos from several of Houston's projects during the 70's and 80's. They were presented on highlight pages for an exhibition that was held at Architecture Center Houston in 2009... one I apparently missed! It was called "Behind The Building" and each of the photos is from the selected project pages. One Shell Plaza Pennzoil Place Wells Fargo Plaza 1600 Smith Street The Westin Galleria
  16. Plans for over a dozen more locations by '16... http://www.chron.com/default/article/Q-A-Dunkin-Donuts-to-add-a-bunch-of-locations-3570257.php
  17. It's actually Energy Tower III, which had been planned during the last 'boom', several years ago. It's the final tower in the original plan for the complex. Here's the old thread for the project. Note that the rendering on the first page of that thread shows the same building in the Chron's post... minus the Technip signage at top.
