  1. http://archpaper.com/news/articles.asp?id=6964 Brief write-up on the attempt to break up the "Houston Wrap" design (apartments around a garage) and instead creating a central space accessible from the street.
  2. Some minor updates... For Phase I: JCI & Cavender's still are listed as "proposed" and the small MOB is still there as well. More pad sites have appeared though. New "proposed" tenants include Party City between Palais Royal and Kohl's and Ihop along Commercial Drive. For Phase II: Instead of a proposed Homegoods/Marshalls, it looks to be just a regular Homegoods store, subdivided with a Mattress One for the old Conn's space. A couple of restaurant sites have popped up near the intersection of Reading and Spacek. In addition, the plans show proposed revisions to the feeder on both sides in anticipation of of the reconstruction of the Southwest Freeway. Even looks like a U-turn would be included -under- the road. Pretty interesting since 59 already gradually dips somewhat along that stretch.

  4. It is and they still pretty much suck food wise. Service isn't terrible, but it doesn't override the general bad vibe of the food.
  5. I know I've been on this site too long when I try to place the period and location by the buildings that are there. And for some reason the fact that the signs that Stan Creech Properties used then and today look exactly the same jumped out at me. Wait. Maybe that's the sign of too much HAIF-ing...

Groundbreakings will take place between now and summer 2014 on the projects. “Fort Bend continues to grow in size and population and our patients are seeking an ever broader range of sophisticated medical and surgical treatments close to home,” said Dr. Marc L. Boom, Houston Methodist CEO. The expansion kicks off in November with groundbreaking on a 9,600-square-foot emergency care center on SH 6 in Missouri City between the Sienna Plantation and Riverstone communities. The facility is scheduled to open in summer 2014 and will house 10 treatment rooms and the latest technology in diagnostic imaging equipment. A new patient tower will be added between the Sweetwater Pavilion and Main Pavilion on the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital campus, adding 104 beds. The tower will add intensive care beds and medical-surgical beds with space remaining for future expansion. Groundbreaking will take place in the summer of 2014 with completion in 2016. The hospital is also building a facility for Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. The practice will move to a new 60,000-square-foot building on the corner of U.S. 59 and Sweetwater Boulevard.

  10. Looks like the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center - the Children's Museum's satellite location - will be located here. For some reason, I thought it was going to be near the HMNS branch museum in Telfair. 12. While there had been rumblings of such a project in other threads, I figured it was time to start a separate one since Bisnow is reporting something a bit more specific.

  14. No, that is from a presentation put together by Central Houston, Inc.'s Planning and Development group. CHI is a non-profit organization and that presentation is even listed as the first bullet point on the link provided. There is no "Downtown Planning & Development Department" on the governmental level. For years, they have highlighted prospects for development that are both in motion and are simply just proposals including the myriad of plans for the old Holiday/Days/Heaven on Earth Inn over the past decade or so. As for the SkyHouse thread - LarryDierker's picture shows a view you don't see too often. Looks like it will blend in quite well and definitely add density in that section.
  15. Tried searching for an existing thread and saw there were at least a couple of others referring to this project. Anyway, two more buildings on the way, per bisnow...

Only exchanged a few messages with him back and forth through YouTube over the years after his retirement, but he was very insightful and direct about the business. He will be missed.

  19. One I can think of is the fountain at the center of Regency Square, off the Southwest Freeway. It is in the center of Savoy Drive and is in the middle of a somewhat informal traffic circle. It isn't a small fountain either...
  20. Haven't had any doubts so far... though I will say this statement is all I need to hear.
  21. Just tried copy & pasting the title... and it actually worked this time. It didn't when I tried it on Saturday.
