  1. Call me a bit heartless, but I don't think a 9/11 memorial isn't very fitting condidering how small the connection it is. Name it after an someone local who did something noble or an officer that died in the line of duty. Hell, name a bench after Marvin.
  2. I agree, it is a shame that the hotel element couldn't be built, if only the car/people ratio thing could have been eased a bit. It would be interesting to know what percentage of people that book rooms downtown DON'T have cars. Once the ESD is finished, I'm sure quite a few people will mosey over to HP for something to do.
  3. Well, from what I've been seeing, quite a few people are either Valeting, walking in, cabbing, or pediacabs. Heard a nightmare from their valet service, they get swamped and is fairly surly to people that are just dropping off and they seem to have magically lost a set of keys for a hummer. The customer was not in the least bit amused.
  4. Sorry to tell you this, but Red has a point. Now assuming you put the tunnel within the space you say is adequate; how much room will there be left from the begining of the "incline" from the intersection of 610/Westhiemer? Maybe 20 feet? 50 feet? Can you imagine the traffic from the southbound frontage road trying to find enough space to find a place to get into the lane they NEED to go in? Now add to the fact that there are quite a fvew people that don't know the traffic flow to be able to make a snap decision like that? The space that you think is more than enough would be a traffic engineer's nightmare. Additionally, the lights on McCue and Sage have to be properly syched to allow the additional traffic that will be increased heading into those intersections.
  5. I like the insect. I dated someone who had that nickname. I even enjoyed the series. I DESPISE the song. -1 to you.
  6. Yeah, its at least 10 yrs older than the main street one. I think one of the smarter things Metro could do is build a multi-level garage with ground floor retail at the wheeler station, and maybe one other stop near the uptown line stop so people can have an option of avoiding the driving hell that is the Westheimer/Post oak intersection.
  7. Yay. I'll drink an extra beer (or 5) to celebrate today.
  8. Just found this article: 100 Reasons why Climate change is natural. Here are a few of my favorites: 2) Man-made carbon dioxide emissions throughout human history constitute less than 0.00022 percent of the total naturally emitted from the mantle of the earth during geological history. 3) Warmer periods of the Earth’s history came around 800 years before rises in CO2 levels. 4) After World War II, there was a huge surge in recorded CO2 emissions but global temperatures fell for four decades after 1940. 18) Despite activist concerns over CO2 levels, CO2 is a minor greenhouse gas, unlike water vapour which is tied to climate concerns, and which we can’t even pretend to control 62) Under existing Kyoto obligations the EU has attempted to claim success, while actually increasing emissions by 13 per cent, according to Lord Lawson. In addition the EU has pursued this scheme by purchasing “offsets” from countries such as China paying them billions of dollars to destroy atmospheric pollutants, such as CFC-23, which were manufactured purely in order to be destroyed. 64) Michael Mann of Penn State University has actually shown that the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age did in fact exist, which contrasts with his earlier work which produced the “hockey stick graph” which showed a constant temperature over the past thousand years or so followed by a recent dramatic upturn. 77) Why should politicians devote our scarce resources in a globally competitive world to a false and ill-defined problem, while ignoring the real problems the entire planet faces, such as: poverty, hunger, disease or terrorism. 79) Since the cause of global warming is mostly natural, then there is in actual fact very little we can do about it. (We are still not able to control the sun). 90) Politicians and climate activists make claims to rising sea levels but certain members in the IPCC chose an area to measure in Hong Kong that is subsiding. They used the record reading of 2.3 mm per year rise of sea level. 97) India plans to reduce the ratio of emissions to production by 20-25 percent compared with 2005 levels by 2020, but all Government officials insist that since India has to grow for its development and poverty alleviation, it has to emit, because the economy is driven by carbon.
  9. I'm quite anxious to see what is going to happen to the land. Bellaire certainly does need it's own community park, instead of one or two little neighborhood parks I've seen (like on Elm St.)
  10. I thought it was cool when I heard The Dreamliner took off, when I saw the video I was a little alarmed at the shape (or flex?) Of the wings as it took off.
  11. He's a complete ass, so I agree. One thing that really caught my eye was not only was he able to only hit his target, but looking at it from another angle, he was at least 20 feet away and had to JUMP to see and throw at his target. Tellin' ya', he could have made an awesome quarterback!
  12. I'm on the fence about the new policy. If the DA simply has a hard time going to trial and convicting people with these trace amounts, then perhaps it's a better way to go if all you're worried about is your conviction rate. I'd say find a way to put them on "deferred probation" for an extended amount of time. Given the histories of people that do drugs, they WILL commit a crime in the future that will revoke that probation and then toss them into jail. Drugs should stay illegal, plain and simple. 99% of the people that are involved in that lifestyle do delve into other illegal activities. If you don't believe that, you're living on another planet. Additionally, I say start taxing the illegal drugs. If someone is busted with drugs without the appropriate "drug stamp", let the IRS hound them. There is more than one way to skin a cat.
  13. Spotted this last night. Pretty good work on the trees, I thought.
  14. I think if you can get the number to the parking division over at the GRB that would be the best way to go. There is a pretty good chance you'd get a positive response, they like to feel like they are loved.
  15. Citykid, you have no clue as to what it took just to get THIS one line open. Perhaps if you look through some of the threads and see how the city built this with it's own funds to SPITE Tom Delay and some of the tactics he used, you'd be a bit more understanding. But I guess when one only looks at the problems as they are, some people neglect to see how it got there to begin with.
  16. Looks to me someone might have some insulation issues that might need to be addressed.
  17. Are you sure you're a native? If you had been, you would have remembered the howls of protest brought up when the monorail was proposed in the 80s. Then again, the people from AO were also vocal about it since they considered it a Blight on their neighborhood. Kinda makes me wonder if ANYTHING regarding transit will ever be built through there.
  18. I wouldn't be too quick to jump down his throat. Sometimes its the ancedotes from different people are often used to provide details in which isn't always clear looking at a big picture. The problem is that those with a differing view just assumes someone with a different viewpoint is a moron.
  19. Then again, you could always just collect the rain water for lawn use.
  20. Yep. December 10th is the date to watch. From what I heard, METRO is already looking at bids and if things go through, they expect dirt to turn over in just over a year.
  21. As much as it pains me, looks like I'm going to vote for Parker.
  22. Was talking to someone over the holidays that works with metro, he's saying that the ridership has increasing fairly steadily. He didn't give me numbers. He has said most people that arrive into town go across the street to metro to hop on a bus, but that quite a number of them will get picked up by various hotel shuttles, friends, or cabs. Off hand he figured ridership is about 300 a day now, with the bus being half full at peak and only two or three people on off peak rides.
  23. I wonder if the city has just gotten aggressive with ticketing and booting as of late. Perhaps people have gotten so out of control on the limited parking spaces they have, that perhaps they had to put more manpower behind it. I'm starting to see the COH Parking enforcement at all hours and neighborhoods for in increasing amounts over the past few months.
