  1. Being a (Not Devout) Roman Catholic I don't have a problem with how they preach the faith they believe in or where they preach, as long as they're true to their message. Lest we forget Swaggart, The Bakers, and their ilk. Ricco
  2. I think one of the main reasons that they want to hold the SB's in warmer climes is because they can turn it into a high profile event where people can go to venue to venue without having to worry about the weather TOO much. It's easier to go around in rain in about 40-50F as opposed to Snow @ 10-20F! I think one of us discussed this fact in another thread in old HAIF and whoever said it had a very good point. (God, I hope it wasn't HJ!) Ricco
  3. Will Dollar's be called, "The AstralDome"? Or should it be, "The Inspire Dome?" In regard to the size of the lakewood church compared to others, I honestly have no clue. I was surprised by Empiro's statement of the fact, but I was waiting for additional statements to prove or disprove his statements. Ricco
  4. Here is the information you looked for: Superbowl History Ricco
  5. LOL. I was refering to Madison Square Garden. I was a little drowsy when I wrote that. I am still very partial to their holding multiple events there during the Rodeo or maybe during some "Mega" events where they can counter program eachother. If you're not interested in what's going on in the stadium, just waltz over to the Dome. Ricco
  6. 713to214, Actually there are a couple of excellent private schools in the area. One of which my Little sister attended. I'm sure there might be a couple of more that I don't know about, but there is also a number of Day Care Centers I found out that are near there as well! In regards to poeple not walking out, you're right, there really isn't all that much to go around in. Maybe if they moved that bloody Bus station, and build up a couple of more buildings/residences/mixed use buildings, it would pick up considerably. Ricco
  7. Well, be sure to have someone set up some floodlights and a time-lapse camera to capture the event. That would be an interesting item to view. R
  8. I don't think something like that would work well here in the states, at least not until there are more people there. I say if you want to suppor tthis, show up yourself. I plan on it sometime this or next week if it's possible. It's amazing how we all root for something to continue, but rarely go to the business/event to support it, and then we whine when it does close. Ricco
  9. Well, having driven by there alot over the past few days, the Hardy yard has considerable activity with demolition and such. Tell you what, the residences are going to have hell with the trains going by that area when they complete the project. Ricco
  10. I still think that the rodeo can hold additional events there, different acts or whatever. It just needs a bit of renovation on the inside. hell, if The Garden in Boston has endured all these years, surely the Dome can still be used for a few more years. Ricco
  11. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...politan/2930993 Dec. 4, 2004, 12:15AM Holiday lights shine on a revitalized downtown Officials hope the displays draw people and help boost retail growth By ALLAN TURNER Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle Visit our Holidays page for recipes and ideas to enhance this holiday season. Once virtually empty and vaguely menacing, downtown Houston's nighttime streets are being clothed in holiday finery by boosters who hope colorful lights and oversized ornaments will draw people to the business district to visit, shop and possibly live. While there are festive lights at City Hall and on office buildings throughout the downtown area, this year's decorations will be concentrated on or near Main Street Square, the $7.9 million centerpiece of a downtown remake that features fountains, public art and a brick-paved Main Street. The three-block-long square and a four-block stretch of Lamar will be illuminated by multicolored lighting displays featuring about 175,000 bulbs. Giant wrapped gift boxes
  12. Juniper, So you understand we may be thinking about this totally wrong. We won't need an entire "supermarket' but rather a bunch of little markets with certain specialties. Afterall, if they carried the variety that most stores do, they would lose alot in spoilage alone! geraminal, welcome to the system. i hope you enjoy your stay. in regards to a place to buy booze, i think the density would have to increase with potential customers before anyone would be willing to take on spec's down the road. *I* go to specs downtown and I don't live anywhere near it. Ricco
  13. You know, that makes alot of sense. everytime i've talked to people from there, they marvel at the size of our apartments (as well as the costs)! *i* don't do the usual grocery shopping for the reason mentioned; "no room". perhaps the same thing will evolve here, small grocery stores with specialties. While the condos/lofts here are generous by NYC standards, there isn't a ton of room to storage of food. Ricco
  14. Well, after a brief search, I came across the following LINK that gives some clue as to how many there are. i'm not familiar as to which chains are prominent up there, so i just did a general search. So that popped up quite a few mom and pops. If anyone has a clue as to a more refined search or perhaps a major chain grocery store up there, then feel free to take over this search. Ricco
  15. There is already a fiesta near the line, a randals a brief walk or a drive from downtown (or a short drive to kroger's along Polk in the east end). I THINK there is another Fiesta or food town just on North main near Hogan. IF a place is going to open, I would imagine it would have to be a moderately high-end pace like a Central Market or a flagship of one of hte major chains. Ricco
  16. Don't forget Creme' De la Creme' on Labranch @ Polk (I think) There is supposed to be a good place along main street, but I don't know that much about it. Ricco
  17. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they're so offended by what they see, they have to keep an eye on it with binoculars. Isn't the "modeling" studio on smith (i think) closer than the meatrack? Ricco
  18. Empirio, we don't think you're a moron, you've put in a number of posts that have been quite thoughtful for the most part. It's just that when you get in a tizzy about certain aspects of life, you seem to throw all that eloquence out the window and it makes you seem less intelligent than you actually are. at least, that's my PERSONAL opinion. Ricco
  19. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...politan/2915259 Nov. 23, 2004, 1:23AM Uprooted tree severs MetroRail power line By MIKE GLENN Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle Heavy rainstorms uprooted a tree at Hermann Park tonight, severing a MetroRail power line when the tree fell across the southbound tracks.
  20. Well, with any luck, they will be bought out (don't want to wish the place to fold, it would look bad) and a proper place to be put in. I always hated the facade, and just hoped they were waiting to make more money to make themselves look better. Ricco
  21. Simple, my boss told me to. It was to try to get people into thinking about christmas when it came to selling their things on Ebay. So far, it's working. Ricco
  22. LOL. The words that come to mind are the malpractice insurers saying, "PLEASE don't screw up!" I never thought of it as a marketing ploy, but I can see the advantages of doing so. It can also have the benifits of perhaps showing the realities of surgery and then maybe pursuading (or not) kids/grads into that direction. Ricco
  23. That's why I always get my ebay listings and greet everyone in regards to the HOLIDAYS, not just christmas. It's more even handed about that. Ricco
  24. now THERE is a good example of a post. Hell of alot better than, "Houston sucks!" Geeze, people... Ricco
