  1. Could be because I wasn't registered. Ohwell.
  2. This was the examiner last week, but the online version is pathetically short. The printed version went on to say that some of the businesses that will need to be relocated were: The Davenport Big City News (adult bookstore, I'm sure the neighbors will be glad...at least most of them) among several others. The thing that irritates me is that they were going to include a link on the site to some PDF on what parcels need to be purchased/Demo'ed, but failed to do so. Instead, they simply put up a highly condensed version of the article. Lazy Bastages.
  3. in downtown, anything less than 30 stories is a disappointment.
  4. Here's a link. sky sky⋅scrap⋅er /ˈskaɪˌskreɪpər/ [skahy-skrey-per] –noun 1. a relatively tall building of many stories, esp. one for office or commercial use. 2. Architecture. a building of exceptional height completely supported by a framework, as of girders, from which the walls are suspended, as opposed to a building supported by load-bearing walls. Just sayin'.
  5. Happened to be rolling by there and noticed a HUGE house that looks like it's going to be moved in the near future. Didn't have the camera with me, but from what I can see, it looks like it's going to go down 11th. Anyone has any news on it? I'd love to take a few pics of it when it's moving, the thing is HUGE.
  6. 13: For NIMBYs to STFU. 14: For Outter Loopers to STFU and stay out of our business. EDIT: oops.
  7. page not found. Edit: Interesting that it worked only from the transtar website.
  8. with this economy, I don't think anything dramatic will change it to anything other than typical office space. It would be nice for someone with deep pockets to buy it and think beyond the current economy to make something more substantial.
  9. Do you think there is something in the physiology of people living there that would do that? One can distinctly tell from one country to the next by the way they (naturally) smell due to their diet.
  10. I believe it's highland village or thereabouts. If I remember correctly, it MIGHT be Drexel at Westiemer.
  11. Don't really see a way they WOULD make a profit of it. Having been to a bar in Webster, where they are allowed to smoke, didn't seem more crowded than any other bar. I did cough more, though.
  12. I called it. LOL, but I figured it would be at least a week or so more before hearing from the Bellaire Mayor. Forgot all about the concert component with the stadium, they would go nuts if they held a the Warp Tour or a truck rally of some sort.
  13. I'm impressed you even remember the show. Had more than a few friends who can't remember a thing after they walked in. Might have something to do something in the air or some such. I prefer to do my tailgating in an air conditioned room with plenty of beer.
  14. Well, from what I've seen, more people hang out before a game than after it. Talking to a couple of bartenders they tell me if the local teams win, people will stick around for additional drinks and celebrate. When I go to an Astros game, I make an entire day out of it, starting at about noon.
  15. While I can't say this for a fact, but if the stadium isn't built there, then it might wind up being a residential area with only enough shopping to satisfy the area population. I will have to hunt down the east end plans, but I don't remember if a station will be in the area, but if it is, then it will turn what I mentioned above as a DENSE neighborhood. No major shopping area will go there unless there is enough people to support it. Chinatown died because after GRB was built, 59 turned into some sort of psychological barrier..
  16. I agree, I would prefer it downtown, but this location isn't bad either.
  17. If anything, it would be easier since you have two major freeways and a tollroad that drops fairly close to there. Not to mention that you have two major rail lines with a station within walking distance. Let's not forget that the soccer moms in the area MIGHT be thrilled about the location being so close.
  18. that would be an interesting location if that was the case. I would rather have it in the area that was discussed near downtown, but this might be a good alternative. The city and nearby residences might have a collective fit, though.

    Go METRORail

Now if they can only update it like it should be with an additional graph or map showing progress. Surely if they can give one guy to tweet occasionally, surely they can put some low ranking dude to update it every few weeks.

  21. I've always found subjects in regards to infrastructure fascinating. People simply don't appreciate in what it takes to make a city livable.
  22. That looks pretty sweet. When I drove by earlier, the Village people started playing in my head. I just hope it's a one time deal.
  23. Love this article and it has a couple of good points. I know they have limitations on space, but I wished she would have gone into more detail on the pitfalls of "free" parking, but I would have loved to have read a longer article on the entire subject.
  24. Well, the PDF link that I put up there shows how much land and where they plan on purchasing the land, but I think they are just in the ROW acquisition stage and wouldn't doubt if the uptown line be going online at about the same time U-line is done.
