  1. Besides, there is a good chance that they will move again in about 10 yrs or so as the congregation grows.
  2. I don't particularly care for Joel Olsteen overall, but I don't think he's an affront to religion as you say he is and I'm not a fan of Megachurches overall.
  3. Glad to hear it! I saw the trailer and such down there as well, but I think that's just a staging area for the construction.
  4. It would be impractical to keep the interior as a bookstore/Theater setup. Bookstores are going away and lord knows how long it would take for someone to buy up the theater to show movies. I just hope they spare the murals and the interior finishes.
  5. This may be crazy talk, but don't you think it's because the OTHER cities have more transit options like LIGHT RAIL?
  6. I'm not sure that it would be proper that they dictate WHICH charity they would be required to donate to. I already thought they contributed quite a bit to other charities? This is a promising update and it seems like it will go forward.
  7. He is probably just sick of the oddball comments that relate to law and sitting there laughing at us, too paralyzed to type. Justifiably so.
  8. That would be cool. I enjoy throwing in Beef tips and bell peppers in mine.
  9. Well, I hope it takes off, but it will need quite a bit of word of mouth to bring customers in for the comfort food. I know I'd give it a shot if I was in the area.
  10. Thanks okay, it's always good to hear about SLUTs.
  11. according to the census data, Houston didn't become a top 10 city until the 1960's with a population of 938K. <link>
  12. I've always been rather fond of "The Hickory Hollow" on Heights @ Center, but I've always wanted to Try "Beavers" though. Goode BBQ is actually good, but I'm "eh" on the prices. Never was a fan of Pappa's, though, but Demeris is pretty good in my book.
  13. What tickles me is how they talk about the "high speed" elevators. C'mon now, it's not even that high! The Hybrid bit in the newsletter caught my eye as well and called it BS marketing. I do wonder if 3 parking spots per 1000sq ft is standard, though.
  14. For grins and giggles, I decided drive from Main @ Dallas to just Greenbriar and I was surprised by how well it moved, at some points, I was doing 40mph (Pierce to Richmond and Richmond to the Rice Station) with green lights the majority of the way. I only stopped twice for lights and only briefly encountered traffic at the medical center, but that is to be expected. I was quite surprised how quickly I made it through. Would I use main to take the same route? No. Does it hinder someone's way to a business? Hardly. For those that are interested, it was at about 7pm, I think.
  15. While I don't think Houston should gear itself to be a "tourist" city, there are enough things here to attract quite a few tourists for a variety of reasons. I've met people who came here to check out Englewood Yard(which really surprised me), Kemah, the art car scene , the various concerts, and a surprising amount of people that just want to check out Houston for the things I wouldn't have thought would be "touristy" like Montrose, Medical Center, and the various trails. We are a more of a "Tourist" destination than we think we are, but living here we just don't see it.
  16. I don't think anyone outside of the "locals" will give a flip about this bridge, but the design should be something that those merely passing by would say "Hey! that's kinda' neat!" Believe me, I'm sure this bridge will be VERY popular to photographers. I do hope they add something that would attract bats to the CENTER of the bridge so the poo can go straight into the water.
  17. If that's true, it'll throw a wrench in the whole system since the lights are SUPPOSED to change when the rail is crossing. An additional measure that I think would be appropriate is 20mph for all buses and trucks over a certain size in downtown.
  18. I'm always seeing people cross the Studemont bridge in the afternoons and I get nervous for them. They are one slip from getting hit by traffic or one text away from from some doofus hitting the curb. Is there anyone that lives nearby that can post before (or current) pictures so we can have a comparison after it's complete? Don't really see why everyone didn't like the design, I thought it was pretty creative, but thank god for the name change.
  19. 'bout damned time. The technology is there and manpower is beefing up, there isn't an excuse.
  20. They have fans and blow over the radiators that they use to help circulate the air. Drive up to one (like the one on 59 by Garrott) and you'll easily see them.
  21. Well, it took 4 years to build the Golden Gate bridge, so it might be a little less time than that.
  22. This comes down to climate dictating design. These things have to be COOL to operate properly during the summer. If you cover them up, you would then have to spend a certain amount of power to cool the things down. Don't really know how other cities with our same climate handles it, but I'm sure they wouldn't want to take on the added expense to do so.
  23. Didn't have time to post this earlier, but Chron.com mentioned that they just broke ground on this project.
  24. No one is being "Forced" to ride Metro Buses or Rail. There is cash or prepaid parking. Thank god for the public transit available to major events there, can you imagine the total chaos it would be? It's practically a gridlock as it currently is. If anything, there should be better access to it.
