  1. Friend of mine just moved in a few weeks ago and I was quite impressed with it, I was a bit taken aback by how the walkways and some of the interior designs. Was only able to get this one shot so far from the parking lot inside, but I'll see what I can get next time.
  2. This is one example I could find of a guy not going down. Granted, he's going to be bruised, but it convinced him that he didn't want to face another. Otherwise I agree with you, but if all you're going to do is piss him off, you need to have a better backup plan. I've shot at people who tried to steal a car in the past (I think I winged him), and I won't hesitate to do so again. I work hard for what I have and I don't have it in me to give them a chance to do it again without some sort of consequence. Never could understand the mentality of people that like to steal other people's stuff for a living.
  3. I agree, and can appreciate that, but it isn't that much of a deterrent he if decides to pull something out something with a bit more kick. Adrenalin does interesting things to a human body and he may not even feel it.
  4. That's quite true, but why not simply load it with birdshot since it does the same thing? It leaves a deep enough of an imprint on the suspect that it leaves a trail of blood for law enforcement to prove they were in their house. Not to mention if he's not caught and survives, he will remember not to hit THAT house again. Otherwise, a beanbag will just leave a bruise and remember that might be the worse he will face....if he comes back.
  5. Pity about the trumpet player. Hopefully that wasn't a vital finger.
  6. I've been following this before it the chronicle (article) and this saddens me quite a bit. Having gone here a couple of times and its never been rowdy, but I've heard of some of the goings on with the neighbors over at the tower. Knowing this has been going on for a few months, I NEVER thought it would go up to this level, but I guess when grownups don't behave like grownups, it happens. Wouldn't the Tower's management be responsible for the owner's behavior? Now that the co-owner took things in his own hands, I'm afraid this establishment might be in trouble now that he's been charged with assault, any resulting lawsuit might sink this business.
  7. I think BRT would be a good solution. I 45 will eventually upgraded and an HOV or BRT line could be added, until then they can use HWy 3 can be used until it can jump on the current HOV system. The service level can be adjusted depending on usage, special events, season, or evacuation. Then again, we may have brought this up two or three pages ago.
  8. I'd pay money to say that. TV's newest show: "Urban cooking adventures, with TheNiche." Piss off, Iron Chef.
  9. So THAT is where the fireworks coming from! I was wondering about that. "Ruggles green?"
  10. Well, it might take awhile, but I'm sure it will eventually be filled up. The Empire state building had a substantial vacancy rate until after the war if I remember correctly.
  11. I do notice you have a tendency to have to repeat yourself a few times. It's akin to simply listening to yourself speak. But I'm going off topic on that. Ed, are you more apt to move into a High Rise or a particular neighborhood? Considering this is your site, I figure you would piece together quite a bit of what we have talked about in the past.
  12. I'm merely bringing up YOUR 10 yr old BS explanation on the perils of not having a car. As in any emergency, if you can't adjust for your situation, you and your hypothetical 10 yr old are doomed. And yet you bring this up 20 posts after I originally brought it up? I don't know what your issue is, but I don't pretend to be a "Red Jr." It IS possible to live in Houston without a car, plenty of people do it all the time without making a major whining production in it. Oh yeah, keep it on topic.
  13. Didn't know Red or editor had a 10 yr old. As far as renting a car, I'm refering to extended trips or whem the schedules are overly packed.
  14. You also forgot to mention, that in a pinch, he could always rent a car for a day or so.
  15. Dude! WTH.. You're not a mod. A ) Lockmat's side comment highlights the ineptitude of our gvt and their ability to do anything big. It's not like 10 other people took the healthcare side comment and ran with it. You jumped the gun and I find that way more offensive than the original comment. B ) You're not a mod...Next time, instead of policing users, just press the "Report" button. Right back at you.
  16. Dogs are trained for specific smells of certain chemicals that are key ingredients for their specialty. I'm not familiar enough with the explosive to know if it CAN be detectable with a sniffer dog, if it is, it's an additional thing a dog will have to be trained for. The only thing is that it makes a stronger case for those body Xray machines. Umm....keep it on topic? As far as the CNN topic, I was outraged at first, but I think they probably would help the security forces.
  17. Damn. It would have been nice to collect taxes from those guys.
  18. From what I heard, there IS someone actually buried there that will have to be exhumed before anything else goes forward. Don't have much of the details, only that Landry's is the highest bidder so far and that the owner of the lot wants to keep the back portion as a park.
  19. I just wonder how they're doing on their post oak location. I would figure they are probably the only reasonably priced meal for the office workers and more adventurous tourist from the hotels.
  20. Yeah, so far the OP needs to take her travel time into consideration on the first couple of dates. If she likes him, driving down to PL wouldn't be a that big of a deal for her. Dating sucks, or has anyone read the local blog, "The Overeducated nympho?" It makes for great ways to avoid some pitfalls.
  21. Kristelnacht is worth noting as the beginning, but not the start of it. 9/11 wasn't the "leading up" to the war, it was a culmination of a series of events that started near the beginning of the first war. But I don't want to rehash the politics and I don't wanna give the "Truthers" fits. If a memorial needs to be built, do it in another part of the city or another park that is larger than MSP. I still think a Museum would be a more appropriate venue and that a memorial to a particularly notable local person should be made instead.
  22. There is nothing wrong with going into the Montrose for a first date, particularly if you are going try to introduce her to some of the more interesting restaurants. I would also use the "This place was mentioned on Diner's Drive-inn and Dives" (Niko Niko's) or something. Women get taken to cheesy places all the time, do something different and quirky. See a midnight showing at the River Oaks Theater towards the end of the date, maybe?
  23. A proper museum would be the proper venue, I believe. Having such a structure in the future wouldn't be a "Feel good" measure, but a proper way to be in the proper context as to why things happened the way it happened. The Holocaust didn't just happen, there was quite a few important event that led up to that event, and as such, a museum can be a proper way to put it all together....as long as it's not politicized.
  24. The difference being is that it's a dedicated building for that history which was a global tragedy. Once the war is over, I would not have any opposition to a related museum dedicated to that, but do it right, don't do it half baked. a modest plaque in a central park is a "feel good" measure I'm not thrilled about.
  25. I disagree. It would be like having a memorial for the OKC or the original WTC bombings here in Houston because a native died there. If you're going to put a 9/11 for one person, then perhaps ALL victims with Houston ties from that day should have their names inscribed. Better yet, leave it empty until the wars are over so all the (local) names that have fallen can be included properly honored.
