  1. It would be nice if we could get a highrise of 50 or more stories on this site. Such a tower would extend the skyline, as Howard Huge has pointed out, quite nicely. An open plaza to the north of the Theater District would be a welcome addition.
  2. Columbia St....can we call this hotel the Knickerbocker or Morningside Heights?
  3. With Swtsig's Post, Monarch gets a mulligan to put up something extra bright for the confirmation.
  4. Well, I'll take a number of 40-story developments. Five years ago, 40 stories would have had a real "wow" factor. Today, we've become spoiled and numb to them. The good news is that, after some of these (e.g. this tower, Hanover River Oaks, Market Square Tower), it just might take a 60-story development to get the same pop.
  5. Maybe the rumors will make it come true. After all, American Express made the Centurion card after rumors of a secret black credit card used by celebrities persisted for awhile. Uptown Park would not be a bad area for the W. It would be very visible from the highway.
  6. It is a good to see they have a partner for this development. I suspect the "construction could begin" suggests this development will wait until some of the other highrises have been completed and at least somewhat leased out. This will be a nice addition to the Uptown Skyline when developed--although that may be a few years out.
  7. I wouldn't necessarily think this means a halt to development. Edens owns, among a number of other properties, the City Vista development near where I lived in DC. They have experience with mixed-use and could be well positioned to develop some of AmREIT's properties.
  8. Interesting. I will want to hear Edens' vision for Uptown Park as part of this deal is.
  9. Is this related to the Nau Center for cultural heritage? I saw some demo next to the steam engine earlier this year.
  10. Reported Today in Culturemap: http://houston.culturemap.com/news/real-estate/10-30-14-premium-outlet-mall-appears-headed-to-prime-southwest-freeway-location-in-major-real-estate-deal/ Still waiting for a "premium" store with tall-sized clothing.
  11. I have been a fan of this building for awhile. I really like the idea of a tower over a transit hub and think the concept could work on the Post Office site Downtown. I am looking forward to a return to San Francisco to see the impact this has on the skyline.
  12. Interesting. I think Guayaquil is within the range of the 737-800 and am surprised UA does not fly the route. Did they give up the Continental frequencies? PVG would be a nice add. HKG would also be cool. I think the 787-8's were coverted into 787-10's to be delivered in the 2020's. I think there was an offshore oil discovery near Porto Alegre, Brazil and wonder if that could become a good 767-300 route. Good to hear we are going to see some tails other than United for North America flights.
  13. I had a room at the Fairmont at Vancouver airport facing the runway and had no issues with noise of jets taking off. I think appropriate windows can take care of the noise so guests can enjoy a skyline view.
  14. Now that Eva Air has announced Taipei and United has announced the launch of IAH-SCL , what nonstops do y'all see IAH getting in the future? IAH will have nonstops to PEK, ICN, DXB, DOH, NRT, TPE, and IST in Asia. Nonstops to Europe include LHR, CDG, AMS, MUC, FRA, DME, and SVG in Europe. Africa currently features LOS and the charter flight to LAD. I could see United upgauging LAD to daily passenger service on a 787 for oil traffic. MAD would also make a solid route for Latin America connectivity (transit without visa would really help that along). IAH has become quite a Star Alliance hub, and connections to BRU might not be out of the question. I am curious as to what more y'all see in IAH's future.
  15. I've thought the post office site would make for an excellent site for a railway station. If properly marketed, office space constructed above a state-of-the art rail station with accompanying retail could have appeal. Think of St. Pancras station in London with a tower similar to the Transbay tower over it. Unfortunately, such a station would require a partnership with a far-seeing developer with the patience wait for the construction and preparation of the remainder of the line.
  16. I wonder what side they are on. I could not see them out of the window of my office building, but will try to get a picture if I do.
  17. 7200 Main would be a nifty site for businesses that could spawn off from the TMC as part of the idea to turn the TMC into an incubator for medical and biotech startups. Unfortunately, the demand for such office space does not appear to be there right now. Where were the reports of a 65-story tower designed by Gensler? I have not previously heard of that.
  18. Disappointing to see the difficulty that Downtown Houston faces for a station. I do tend to think that, in order to be viable, Downtown to Downtown is essential. A northwest station, although linking to a possible transit hub, does not have the sex appeal of a Downtown station
  19. Remember, remember the fifth of November. Great to see a firm start date for this project. This area will be booming when the Super Bowl rolls around in 2017.
  20. Is this part of the Uptown Park redevelopment or the Post Oak Corner just to the south of that redevelopment?
  21. We don't have anything new on this project and it keeps getting bumped. Although, now that it has developed into more of a conversation, it might be more appropriate for another thread.
  22. I could also see significant parking garages, similar the one going up just north of the George R. Brown, with structures atop them going up on this site. Most games start after the end of the workday, so there would be plenty of parking for office and for games--although one would want multiple spots for ingress and egress for the garages.
