  1. Steve Madden is a great guy, smart, with a wonderful vision. I default to trusting him.
  2. Hey - I noticed your comment earlier. I see you that you want to re-iterate your dislike for this. While I value your input on these things, I feel like I should add a rebuttal. While this architecture isn't "new" or "modern" or even "cutting edge", it is elegant and classic. While you probably don't agree, I would love to see more architecture in the classic genre... I am of the mindset that celebrates a diverse application of many styles. I love seeing complex masonry. I love seeing stone, tile, brick, and ornate windows constructed together, especially in 2020. I think Rice really spent some money on this building. I think it is an example of a building that will age well and be timeless. I think this building is genuinely great, and was always intended to match the other historic buildings on campus. It was never intended to read as 'new' or 'modern'. anyway - No offense! difference of opinion is OK. I can appreciate all points of view! I might be in the minority on this, but I am thrilled about this one
  3. So this is no longer the 'real estate coworking space' it was intended to be. the Deal Co has purchased and is going to renovate it as office and event space. From talking to the new owners, it seems as the last people really messed this place up. Luckily, I have confidence this will be re-imaged nicely without losing the historic touches that originally made this building special. I am very thankful this has been saved despite the almost complete destruction.
  4. Interesting. Things I like: It is different / takes a risk. There is a good amount of brick. Things I don't like: the many material choices could cheapen this. I hope that is not stucco, but a particle board of some sort or metal sheets that don't look bumpy or deteriorate. If you remember, crockpot mentioned there was a coffee shop going in here. I think that corner looks like a coffee shop... I have seen plenty of apartments go up, but I have never seen a cafe / umbrellas included in a rendering that didn't have GFR included.
  5. I honestly like it. I think it will come together just fine.
  6. I hope it is the existing one in the mentioned center relocating since their lease is up...
  7. wow! They certainly did not buy it to keep it as is. We should see something finally happen here!
  8. And I do not disagree with you. But I’m focusing on the psychology of it... if things are going to change (in Houston this is almost a certainty) I prefer they change this way than wide spread demolition and new construction. I am suggesting that a long time resident would feel less pressure of this change than they would if the building was torn down and a new fancy hotel was built from the ground up. its clear that the March of gentrification is going East. I hope little gems like lawndale don’t get too disturbed in the process.
  9. This is wonderful. These kind of renovations keep the fabric of the neighborhood. I know someone mentioned 'Gentrification'... but to me there is a difference - a BIG difference - when in an area that all the old / original houses are demolished for expensive and unaffordable things in short order... and when the original buildings being fixed up / renovated that keeps the fabric of the neighborhood similar to what it was.
  10. Post Houston should be a market... but will it have things like a grocery? or more clothing? I'd hope market square people can walk over to post...
  11. What a wonderful park. Can’t wait to see all the phases come together. reminds me of Stanley park in Vancouver. will there be a high end restaurant in the park?
  12. I think I've mentioned this before. Glad to see they are doing this... It would have been an awful miss if they didn't incorporate the connection. I hope their developments has nice retail / food / drink options off the trail. I always find myself wanting a smoothie or refreshment when on walks or rides.
  13. Will someone give the facade some love please? It is awful....
  14. The Binz building needs some sort of complete renovation. I imagine a hotel will grab it. There was a beautiful building there but I think that is long gone and this is what they built in its place... Agreed.. this building and that block need a ton of help.
  15. at lunch it was popping. went there a couple times a month pre-covid.
  16. Are you saying the proposed towers in downtown are dead? paused? or just don't count on it... ? I am pleasantly surprised this one is going up... it was a long time in the making, so i think it is the right call to get this started. I would love to see: - 1 Market Square (best location / redesign makes it attractive) - 6 Houston Center - their marketing strategy has been antiquated IMO - offices that pull the trigger and start tend to lease up before these 'proposals' get any attention --- - Marquette Ball Park tower - I think that corner of downtown could be really special - Camden phase 2 - they had spoken about the possibility of getting started on this in the past... --- - Hanover - I know they are busy, but why haven't they been downtown / midtown at all? I guess they are inching closer with BBP development. - Skanska - They might have a transformative development downtown.. I have high hopes
  17. ugh I loved east hampton. why didn't this work here? It was near SMU and i frequently enjoyed.
  18. No. They do two things a week. It is slowwww but not dead.
  19. Huh? The building is no longer called Chase Tower... Wouldn't it be weird if they had no offices in 600 Travis and its called Chase Tower... then the move offices TO Chase tower, but the tower drops their name!?
  20. I thought they were also going in on shepard and 20th... but that has sat there vacant for some time. anyone know why the either stalled or abandoned this?
  21. I noticed this too. It will be interesting to see what happens. I do hope there is improved safety for the trail users.
