  1. So the hotel went from 170 units to 455 units. To be honest, I like this design better. No, its not as tall (admittedly I am a sucker for height), but for some reason the design and overall cohesiveness fits better with a Loews branded hotel to me, and the street presence is much nicer. Loews doesn't strike me as a hotel that would like being relegated to the bottom of an apartment tower. And the podium appears to have much more room for some of those over the top amenities Loews typically offers. Is the podium larger, or is the tower footprint just that much smaller? It kind of makes me wonder if they didn't axe the office tower and extend this property over that lot? I see what you're saying lockmat, and I can't say I'm too knowledgable on Loews more urban hotels, but the one I've stayed at in Miami had a sprawling complex to house all of its amenities. In the previous design there didn't seem to be nearly enough room for much more than standard hotel offerings.
  2. Is that what was going on Saturday night? It certainly made for an interesting contrast to all of the holiday festivities.. heh.
  3. Hmm.. I dont care for the pool placement (its kind of small too). If/when the office component is built, it will be hiding in the shadows of the surrounding buildings. Id rather it be overlooking the Post Oak corridor. Oh well. We knew this wouldn't (couldn't) be an elaborate resort style Loews, I just hoped the amenities would have a greater focus than what appears in the video.
  4. I dont think the 365 concept had been announced when the old design was around. Though the newer renderings have also shown a Whole Foods sign instead of 365.
  5. Whoa, been awhile. Yeah, the facade/pedestrian interaction they are creating is a complete 180 from what it used to be.
  6. Kind of strange that they wouldn't leave the garage and earn some parking revenue until the next tower is a go..?
  7. That picture makes the BIGGIOS sign look like it's on the northwest corner/facing west, above the pool deck? I was thinking the bar/restaurant would be more towards the southeast corner, by the GRB.
  8. This possibility is very exciting. However, there is no way this site would be the location for a Texans practice facility/HQ/mixed use development. A football field by itself is over 1.1 acres. This site is 6 acres. If there weren't any attached facilities, the practice field would take up 1/5th of the site (assuming the building dimensions are the same size as the field). And to compare a similar development concept, The Star in Frisco cowboys practice facility/HQ/mixed use development is 91 acres.. I'm not doubting the legitimacy of these rumors, I'm just saying this site couldn't fit such a development. Maybe they are in talks with the owners of the portion of the Astroworld site that doesn't belong to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo? Otherwise, I wonder if they would look towards the suburbs for such a development?
  9. I had a chance to swing by Discovery Green this evening. The art installation looks great!
  10. Wow, I didn't expect the art installation to be so prominent from Discovery Green. I didn't realize the top of the red stacks would have LEDs in them (or the horizontal overhang). This is going to look like an entirely different place once its all finished. I can't wait.
  11. I love my Rokinon 12mm. I use it a lot for landscapes and astrophotography out at the beach. So I notice they still haven't glassed over the southwestern corner on the top two floors. Ive been trying to figure out for a while now if those will be balconies, but haven't gotten a response. Balconies weren't shown in the original renderings, but if that is now the plan, does anyone know what rooms the balconies would connect to? Penthouses? The top floor looks like it has a taller ceiling, maybe a public space of some sort? Should be some great views from there..
  12. Whoa, that looks great! The other picture was definitely underwhelming. Hopefully they plan on doing something with it during daylight hours to spruce it up a bit more than what we originally saw.
  13. I noticed that when I saw the segment on the Marriott on KHOUs 10:00 news a week ago (I even paused it on the photo and took a picture of the TV). The exposure was a little different than what you posted, but its definitely the same picture now that I see them side by side.
  14. Wow, that was a great tour. Over 50% leased, United is floors 12-19, and the green space on the podium will only be for their office. Hines used the green space amenity to incentivize a large block lease on the lower levels, since upper floors are usually more desirable. They have 97(?) days to finish up before the deadline. The crane is supposed to come down November 5th, and the exterior elevator lift (very cool experience) is supposed to come down on the 1st. i didn't realize there was going to be a water feature in the lobby. They mentioned the glass on the roof that opens up to the 46th-48th floors below would be capable of changing colors/darkening by use of electricity, to reduce direct sunlight on sunny days. It was great meeting everyone! Naviguessor and I decided we should have a HAIF gathering at the 43rd floor restaurant & lounge/open air observation deck at Wedge tower. And with that.. its picture time. Lobby Conference Center Fitness Center 12th floor/first green space level It was originally designed as a trading floor (larger floor plate than the rest of the office levels at 40,000 sq ft) with higher ceilings and additional infrastructure capacity. 13th floor/build out example Going up.. 46th floor Hopefully that wasn't too many pictures/slowed your browser down. They're just iPhone photos and I figured those who weren't able to attend would be interested to see some pictures from the tour.
  15. Roll Call: Who all is going to the hard hat tour on saturday? A few pictures from sunday..
  16. Yeah, the crown is supposed to be lit, along with LEDs down the recess on the front (and back?).
  17. New York-based Skanska USA Commercial Development has retained CBRE's Houston office to begin preleasing an ambitious downtown office tower, according to multiple sources close to the situation. ... The 35-story, 750,000-square-foot tower, which hasn't broken ground yet aside from its foundation being poured, has been on hold. In June, a company spokesperson told the Houston Business Journal that the company wouldn't move forward on vertical construction until market conditions improve. "Since we self finance our (projects), we do not have set preleasing requirements," said Elizabeth Miller, director of communications for Skanska's northeast division. "Rather, we evaluate each potential leasing deal and the market conditions to determine the construction start of our projects." The final contract between CBRE and Skanska is still being finalized, sources said. Skanska declined to comment, and CBRE couldn't be reached for comment. ...
  18. When I first read the thread title it sounded like this would be a food truck type of vehicle that traveled along on i10 and vended an assortment of drinks/snacks to serve the people who were stuck in traffic during rush hour.. haha.
  19. I never noticed the open area on the back side of the top floor. Anyone know what will be on that side?
