I sure hope not. Why would they implode it if they aren't planning on starting it?

McGovern Centennial Gardens At 1500 Hermann Dr.
fkp5 replied to lockmat's topic in Texas Medical Center
This is probably the most gorgeous area in all of Houston. Too bad we aren't getting more high-rise hotels and residentials going up in the museum district.- 114 replies

I totally agree. And it doesn't even need to be just individuals. Corporations could step up as well. AT&T has made some investments to Dallas' core with the AT&T Victory Park Plaza and the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Maybe Houston corporations could step up and invest in similar projects in Houston.

I hope they both come downtown. The lot bounded by Dallas, La Branch, Lamar, and Austin (the last lot available with views of Discovery Green) would be a great spot for a Ritz. If it was a Ritz Carlton and residences, that would be perfect.

I think that BG Group is the most expensive in downtown at $44/sq ft, so this would be priced considerably higher.

I would definitely welcome a modern green glass building in downtown for Baylor's new building. This is coming from a Longhorn.

You're right. I see so much potential in this part of downtown and I'm glad that it is finally making some progress.

Hilton Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites Hotels At 710 Crawford St.
fkp5 replied to Houston19514's topic in Downtown
Thanks for the picture. This area is getting dense with cranes and even more should be going up in the next couple of months. This is an exciting time for downtown.- 486 replies

Core Park West: 3-Office Buildings For Energy Corridor
fkp5 replied to Urbannizer's topic in Katy and Points West
I've wondered that also. I hope that all of these office buildings going up along the Katy freeway don't make it more difficult for the downtown office proposals to get started.- 32 replies

Is 577,301 the downtown daytime population, or is it the total number of people who commute to anywhere in the city of Houston from the suburbs (not necessarily just downtown)? I always thought the downtown daytime population was around 150,000.

Wow! Very nice. I couldn't even tell that was Dallas at first.

Maybe from certain views it will look like it flows into midtown, but not from most. It would be even further up on the front lawn than Heritage Plaza is and there would be nothing in front of it. That's why I would want it to go in the center of our downtown so our skyline would look good from every angle.

I guess I just have different preferences than you guys. I prefer the parabola shape, with buildings leading up to a peak .The Bank of the Southwest block isn't the ideal spot to achieve this, but it's the best lot available. If a super tall was built on 5 Allen's lot, then it would look like our skyline leads up to a peak and just drops off to nothing.

I actually think 5 Allen's site would be one of the worst spots for a super tall. We need a super tall to go in the middle so it would balance out our skyline from all views. I'm thinking that the Bank of the Southwest lot is still the best option.
