From yesterday.

From the article: "Developers quickly claimed the tax credits, and Houston doubled the size of the initiative to a total of 5,000 housing units in 2014. Developers signed up for the last of these incentives early this year; however, some might drop out because of concern that Houston’s energy economy will be damaged by falling oil prices or that too much competition exists from other apartments under construction. “One or two may have stalled because of the change in the price of oil,” says Parker, but she notes that the city has a waiting list of other developments interested in the incentives." Does that mean that other projects could get the incentives if a developer who already has incentives drops their project?

You guys are right. This just looks like a curvier 609 Main. However, this is just a preliminary design, so it could still change. It said that an architectural competition was being held for this tower. But even if it's built like that, it would still be a great addition to the Dallas skyline.

I'm loving the glass on this one. Pretty unique.

Maybe we could start getting automated parking garages in downtown.

Wow, if a tower was built on one of those abandoned lots south of Toyota Center, it would have some great views.

Yeah, a friend showed this to me and asked me to guess what city this was, and honestly I couldn't tell this was Dallas at first glance. It wasn't until I looked more closely that I realized it was Dallas. The city has changed so much over the years. I'm glad that all of the major Texas cities are showing a lot of development progress in their cores. A lot of people don't seem to like the Austin tower, but I think it looks pretty good. It'll really add some nice height to the skyline. I hope Houston can follow suit and eventually get a 600+ foot condo tower in downtown in the near future.

I saw this on the Dallas Skyscraperpage. It looks like Victory Park is really filling up with projects. http://www.trademarkproperty.com/wp-content/uploads/VP_LeasingPkg_040615-NEW-WEB.pdf

Will the food mart be demolished? That's the worst building on the block.

Good news. From this post on TCR's Facebook page from March 12th, it looks like they want the station to be downtown. https://www.facebook.com/texascentral/posts/1588031001439640?comment_id=1588038384772235&offset=0&total_comments=6&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R0%22%7D

Parkside Residences: 43-Story Residential High-Rise At 808 Crawford St.

Great. I'm glad that most residential projects still appear to be going forward in downtown.- 1,224 replies

A unified skyline from downtown to the med center is very very far away. What I'm more excited about is seeing downtown fill up. It is already very dense from this view and this side will be almost filled once all the proposed projects finish up. The south/southeast side is what needs more work.

A redesign would be nice. There's nothing wrong with the current design, but I think they could do a little better in tying it in with their other two buildings.

Are there any other good spots in downtown that could work for the HSR station?

I hope this project is successful. We need more options besides just apartments in downtown.

I really like this building. This side of Discovery Green is starting to fill up nicely. Hopefully we can also get more on the other side, especially Block 251.- 1,224 replies

I understand and respect Skanska's reasons for postponing the project because of the questionable economic environment, but I'm just disappointed that we're only getting a seven story parking garage for now in such a prime spot, especially because I feel like the building that they ripped down had potential to be converted into pretty cool residential units. I hope they are able to eventually find a lead tenant because I really like their proposal.
-
You're right, the tower will probably eventually get built, but it could be a while. It's still a little disappointing.
-
Yes, we knew they were starting the garage first, but the tower was still listed as a proposed project on the previous maps. Now it isn't.
