That parking garage is a waste. They could eliminate so much surface parking and meet minimums parking requirements. Partly because the city is just plain lazy. I joined Bike Houston to help clean up a section of bike path on Chartres St this weekend that took less than an hour. It makes you realize how much the city doesn't do.

I'm so happy to see this little section of businesses changing for the better. Hopefully Jack In The Box is next.

Except for the people who have to walk this area often, great density terrible maintenance. Upper Kirby Management District has a hard time keeping the area clean.- 135 replies

The city hasn't adopted the ordinance change just yet. We'll see the changes soon enough in future builds -

Hold on, so they're tearing down the other building for the flyover but are they demolishing the Bread of Life buildings for the new complex?

What in the world are they made of? That’s a very lame excuse for terrible design

Losing the old Houston Post building, Hogan Allnoch building, and the old DA building still breaks my heart. Not to mention the demolished buildings behind the Lancaster Hotel. The old Incarnate Word and old Sacred Heart as well. So much potential for all of those buildings. We have saved quite a few buildings as well but it just sucks how much potential those buildings all had to add to the vibrancy of downtown.

A sculpture in the middle would be nice, something welcoming people on to the corridor.

This is one of those little projects that adds to the neighborhood without destroying its character and history. Good job by Harry’s

Fairview Collective: Mixed-Use At Fairview St. & Mason St.

So BikeHouston was given a grant to build bike racks for businesses that want them. If someone in the area lives close to this business and doesn’t mind asking, let me know.- 207 replies

Welp that’s unfortunate. Are there plans to build something in it’s place or is this going to be another parking lot?
-
Wow I had no idea this was being built. This is an incredible addition to our zoo.

Coog's Crossing: Mixed-Use Development At 4001 Gulf Fwy.

That's why I don't get why the developer of this project couldn't have used better judgement in the layout and use of the land. If the goal is 2030 to remove all parking mins, then that's too long. I say no later than 2025, and I'm being kind.- 221 replies

Yeah this is stupid. A gas station in a premier urban area is embarrassing. -

What a disaster other than the student housing I guess. We had a great opportunity to build dense with no parking requirements. None of these parcels have any infrastructure for pedestrians, just cars.- 221 replies

I think that's the most important thing. The parking is in the back and pedestrians don't feel like an afterthought for the neighborhood. I actually like the design though.

The food may have been good but the design concept was terrible. Anytime someone decides to paint a palm leaf roof, it's a recipe for disaster. Not to mention painting the thing black of all colors. The space just didn't seem inviting nor eye catching. I use to live down the street at Residence at the Heights. This part of town still has a ways to go.
