  1. I thought they decided to add the regular concrete barriers
  2. Oh wow a satellite location for Starbucks is cool. I wonder how many corporate heads will oversee this one.
  3. This means we need to move faster than those other cities because we’re already behind, but we won’t because we move at a snails pace with everything
  4. It's weird how the little building next to this is all tagged up. I figured that would be a prime spot for a bar or restaurant.
  5. Not sure how this is allowed but the construction team has blocked more than half the sidewalk
  6. Not sure if this has a topic created already but I’ve seen this being built for a while now. Anyone have more info?
  7. I get that point but with the new hotel going up, I think it will help this corridor aesthetically. Texas Ave is slowly shaping up really nice with high quality developments.
  8. It's not affecting aesthetics much when the building wasn't even much to look at. I didn't even know this building existed until I heard about it being demolished. Now losing that small aesthetically pleasing little building next to it would have been a major loss. This just lays the groundwork for a better building in it's place. And we'll have the new hotel up the street going up to replace this "loss".
  9. I'm more surprised they aren't painting a green lane like most bike lanes. Isn't Woodhead supposed to become a bikeway like Hawthorne is? I love Hawthorne
  10. I'm ok with it being a parking lot as long as that little historic building is saved. I see it as a win in my opinion. The building wasn't very appealing to begin with.
  11. Yeah I use that bridge sometimes on my bike, but it would be great if they widened it by about 10 feet and cleaned up the area around it.
  12. This is the spark that's going to help this area blow up. With the Warehouse District right across the freeway, I hope the city will find a way to better connect the two areas for pedestrians.
  13. I honestly don't think the idea is too far from reality. While they didn't do extensive renovation to the inside, it's still a much more inviting place from the outside and I think that was the bigger problem. Over time as foot traffic increases downtown, this will evolve in to much more.
  14. This is great. It also prevents drivers from doubling up and making right turns which is even worse for pedestrians
  15. WTF!? I read the article and I'm amazed at the disconnect between the two groups. In my opinion this falls on METRO not properly communicating it's intentions. Bike and transit officials, however, have different views of what the agreement, and the $500,000, were meant to do. “Our intent has been to work with Houston Bike Share on a transitional window as Metro creates a bike sharing program, and not simply hand over $500,000,” Metro spokesman Jerome Gray said in an email. The first step in Metro paying for anything or reimbursing the nonprofit is having an agreement and the proper paperwork in place, Ramabhadran said, noting that Metro's taxpayer-generated money comes with a lot of conditions. "We have to dot the I's and cross the T's," he said. "We cannot just hand over taxpayer money. It is not a blank check." Metro officials say they still are assessing the system and developing a plan for the new bike share program. Officials have said the aim, once it is a part of Metro, is to provide convenient connections to transit or small trips between where someone can easily walk and the choice of driving or transit. "By no means is this conversation closed," Ramabhadran said of the partnership with Houston Bike Share, including Metro covering some costs or assuming responsibility for some operations. "But it has to work within the limitations of what a public agency can do."
  16. I don't expect the current tenants to be all that fills the space. I already saw more foot traffic because of Immersive Gamebox and I'm sure Puttshack will help continue to draw people regularly as well. I also wasn't expecting much in terms of the interior but as more people come I'm sure more features will be added.
  17. Damn I would be embarrassed to deliver something like that to a client lmao
  18. I wonder what the plan is for the older smaller building on the lot if the original plans to renovate this structure are dead.
  19. And that's the problem, we keep catering to cars with this irrational fear of something bad happening. So it stops us from building the best city possible. Other cities don't seem to have this problem as much as we do and it's because they're forcing people to slow down. The more space you provide to pedestrians, cars will slow down.
  20. Yes more concrete but utilized correctly. It's so ugly . Even the one near Bagby is hideous. Perfect place of more pedestrian activity and instead it's a pile of dirt. I went ahead and sent the MMD an email regarding this and ways to improve these two medians. Right now they act as physical barriers to pedestrians more than anything,.
  21. I hope it does. A few Super Bowls and other big events haven't shifted much. I'd say a lot more has come in the form of private development than the city getting it's act together. The problem with Houston is it moves way too damn slow. I hear it all the time from people from other cities. One lady I met from NJ asked me why it seemed like people didn't take their job serious enough down here. It was actually one of the reasons she left Houston and went back to NJ. At the time I was like screw you you're from NJ, but now that I think about it I get what she was saying. It seems like city leaders move at a pace of "we'll get it done at some point" instead of having a sense of urgency to get it done TODAY. If I'm the city, I would find every available dollar to get reconstruction going on a lot more streets. I'm still waiting for W Alabama and Emancipation to finally kick off, but who knows when they actually will. While we don't have the most extensive transit system compared to other cities, we also don't provide enough incentive to walk and use what we have. We need to start enforcing our sidewalk ordinance where property owners are responsible for maintaining them. The city can work with property owners who have more serious sidewalk issues but basic cleanliness shouldn't be an issue. We also need to get rid of parking minimums inside the Loop and the city needs to quit being scared to force people out of their cars.
  22. MMD needs to redo the design for that median. Why not pave it, add a bench and a tree with a nice grate and call it a day?
