  1. That's not what the plan shows and this idea that shared paths are somehow better is a joke. Crossing 3 lanes of traffic as a pedestrian is ridiculous, and cyclists and pedestrians get the consolation prize of a "shared path." Make Hillcroft 2 lanes each direction, simple.
  2. It's important that anyone who frequents this forum gives feedback on METRO's plan to remove the bike lane on Hillcroft and replace it with a car lane. This would return Hillcroft to a 3 lane road each way and defeats the whole idea of making Hillcroft a multimodal street and slowing down drivers. To top it off, METRO thinks providing a path for both pedestrians and bicycles to share is a better idea. How dumb is this agency? We might have the dumbest transit agency in the nation. I've given my feedback about how absolutely stupid this is. Here is a link to the Metro site about the project: https://www.ridemetro.org/about/metronext/metrorapid/metrorapid-gulfton-corridor-project And here is the link to give feedback: https://ridemetro.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bae54Sl6MgcIIlw
  3. Upper Kirby plans to start on their sections in Summer 2024
  4. That's a bit of a stretch. That area is ripe for new development as property values Downtown continue to go up. The new hotel going up right behind the arena is a good indicator of this.
  5. Any pushback by the neighborhood? I'm hearing a lot on FB
  6. I think you need to take in to account that the building that was there before was not worth saving. Sure they could have renovated it, but this location has much more potential for something larger. In my opinion this is just the market cleaning up the unnecessary clutter. The good thing is they saved the historic little building and have plans to restore it. And a new hotel is going up right down the street replacing surface parking.
  7. I agree. A simple facade update and maybe some more elements around the building dedicated to the Rockets would be cool. A Rockets village would be nice.
  8. Yeah I read how they were expecting the arena to spur growth in that neighborhood but it didn't. I wonder if that massive parking lot had anything to do with it instead of building up and around the arena.
  9. Wow really? The arena they are in now isn't even that old. But in terms of Toyota Center, Fertitta has the money to do something he's just not.
  10. Then they can move and we can redevelop the land. Too many people live in this city looking for suburban life but this ain't the burbs and we need to quit treating it as such.
  11. If we continue building just for cars then yes it won't incentivize anyone to take transit, walk, or bike. It's all learned behavior just like anything else. It took me about 6 months to really get used to just taking transit and now I don't even have to think about it. Calling this area a car wash desert is crazy in my opinion.
  12. I'm not sure why anyone would hate the design of this. It's simple, clean, and it fits the area perfect.
  13. So apparently there is a lot of pushback because of the following.
  14. My only gripe about this is there won't be an entrance off the sidewalk. All of that area is landscaping which I think is a ridiculous use of the space.
  15. This is great infill, and it's going to have GFR. Density is the key if we want to see the kind of activity at street level we've always wanted.
  16. Urban Genesis has to be my favorite development group at the moment. They just seem to really understand what Houston needs and their designs are always great.
  17. Exploring as in possibly tearing it down if they can't find a use?
  18. Any word on the little building they plan to renovate?
