yaga
Worthy of a new thread.... Construction set to begin on high-rise by summer 13-story condo to be built on site of former River Caf
The Great Hizzy!
A lot o glass--probably too much--but I like the non-traditional styling, and the rooftop affects are charming, IMO.I'm hoping that the lower half isn't actually grayish in color, though. Lowbrow
Is this the same place that I, perhaps mistakenly, called the River Walk Cafe?? Just south of the old sound waves?<EDIT: it appears that it is. glad to see it opening again.>
Lowbrow
We're looking at lots of glass, which will make it look very high-tech.I dont care for this statement. Glass can be used to create a "high-tech"-like look but "lots of glass" does not make it "high-tech"ish.
bachanon
this building is atrocious. i hope the the actual structure looks better than the rendering.
Talbot
For some reason, I actually like the rendering. There's just something about it that makes it look like it would stand out.
Montrose1100
I think it will look nice in its location...Always glad to see any high-rise go up around town, expecially residential condos, and 12 stories +...

HoustonMidtown
Does anyone know how pre-construction sales are going on this project?
torvald
Does anyone know how pre-construction sales are going on this project?i ride by this a few times daily on my bicycle. i have never seen anyone inside (pitching the project with those fancy visual aids in there). i do see graffiti being painted over in a timely manner though. bachanon
montrose blvd should have a "coalition" to broaden sidewalks, increase lighting and so on. the area between allen parkway and binz/bissonnett can become a great pedestrian zone. add light rail down richmond and the museum district to westheimer just gets hotter. PureAuteur
The rendering looks fanastic. It's about time we see some architectural/artistic achievement in this century. It looks unlike anything I've ever seen.
Gary
This thing has to be dead in the water, the original post is almost two years old.
dalparadise
This thing has to be dead in the water no pun intended, right? :lol Riparian, get it? You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down! Good times.
torvald
quite a gamble shutting down the river cafe... my original thread is gone but it was concerning the montrose rumor that he was building it to fund horror films... he does like things of that nature. The New Juniper
no pun intended, right? :lolRiparian, get it? You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down! Good times. Dal, thanks for a good laugh. The name of this project reminds me of the name of an epidemic or computer virus, not a building. This "development" is a joke IMHO that never stood a chance. Native Montrosian
Don't know that I'd feel too good there during a hurricane.... But that's just me. I'm sure the builders are taking such into account.
HoustonMidtown
Is this still going to be built? - I havent' seen too much action around the place lately....
2112
The Riparian. Is it just me? Because I immediately think of farting when I hear of this project.
heights_yankee
Is this still going to be built? - I havent' seen too much action around the place lately....The old River Cafe, which was their marketing HQ, is now for lease. I have been taking that as a sure fire sign that the project busted. Frankly, I think no one out there wanted to say "I am going to live at The Riparian" no matter how cool the place was. Flashman
It seems like The Riparian high rise condos on Montrose is now a dead deal.I don't know much more than that, but I trust that is enough.

Montrose1100
Darn! This project looked really cool. And It would have been another midrise on Montrose...
Houston19514
The Riparian units still come up on HAR. So maybe it's not completely dead?
Flashman
I talked with one of the real estate people representing the group. It is dead. I am not sure what they have to do to pull the listings from HAR, but I would bet that is not top of their list.
