Popular Post KinkaidAlum
Looks like Pelican has a new project once The Wilshire is finished. 17 stories and 58 units. There's a render in PaperCityMag but I am too dumb to figure out how to post it here. Expecting to break ground summer of 2016. http://www.papercitymag.com/interiors/the-homey-high-rise-new-houston-tower-6300-woodway-places-comfort-over-gadgets/#2 http://www.papercitymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/6300_Wooday-465x620.jpg
hindesky
Nice to have another high rise going up, but that parking garage base isn't my favorite.

Urbannizer
The building looks like 1885 St. James Place, it's a step down in terms of design compared to The Wilshire. brijonmang
Maybe we can flood the market with high rise condos so I can actually afford one before I get moved into a home.
UtterlyUrban
I'm surprised that they are not planning to go 25+ stories. Given the price of land, I would have assumed that a bit taller would be more profitable.

Is it really too difficult to design a parking podium that enhances, or at least blends with, the rest of the building?

I still don't know how that ended up as the original thread title. The PaperCity article referred to the tower's name by its address (6300 Woodway) several times and only described the living spaces as "homey" in the title, with other similar adjectives throughout the piece contrasting more flashy or modern units in other towers across town. That said, great find. I'm curious about the timeline they have for this one.

Too many "home-schooled" kids nowadays with a true lack of cultural exposure and learning IMO.

Urbannizer
https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2018/07/12/new-senior-living-high-rise-breaks-ground-in.html A new Tanglewood high-rise building near Woodway and Voss will add to the growing portfolio of senior living options in the works around Houston. Dallas-based Tradition Senior Living LP broke ground on The Tradition-Woodway, a 23-story high-rise that will include 222 independent-living and 92 assisted-living and memory-care units, set to complete by April 2020. This will be the developer’s second senior living project in Houstonand the first high-rise for the company, said Jonathan Perlman, founder and CEO of the company. Perlman wouldn’t disclose construction costs for the project, but public permits filed with the city of Houston totaled $83.96 million. “It’s a phenomenal location and an area where we think the product we provide will be very well-received,” Perlman said, referencing the proximity to Second Baptist Church and both the Memorial and Tanglewood neighborhoods. The company’s first Houston project, The Tradition-Buffalo Speedway, will open by December 2018 or January 2019. Tradition bought the land from a partnership named SIC Ripple Creek LLC, which he said included a group of condo owners and retail owners. The deal closed in September, and Perlman said the deal was done in-house. Pelican Builders eyed the same site for a condo project in 2015 but ended up not moving forward. Derek Darnell, president of Pelican, said in an email that the land owners “preferred a product that would produce income for many years, a rental property. And senior housing seemed to be a good fit for them.” Houston-based Jackson & Ryan Architects designed the project, and Houston-based D.E. Harvey Builders is the general contractor. The Bank of Texas provided a construction loan.
