They'll do whatever they can to that end. Unless they can bring Sanders or Warren to heel, they'll have to push someone more to their liking over the top. The Republicans faced the same issue in 2016, but didn't have the superdelegate system like the DNC to ensure the establishment pick won. Robust economy or not, his approval numbers are always below 50% (sometimes WAY below). 60% of the nation can't stand the sight of him. Sadly, the establishment can't come up with anything better than Biden. Clearly they can't put Bernie at the front of the ticket, but they also don't want to alienate all those Bernie supporters that stayed home last time because the Dem establishment steamrolled over him in favor of Clinton. This election might be even more fun to watch than 2016. edit: Interesting that out of one of the most diverse candidate groups ever, they've devolved down to two old white guys. Scratch the surface of the Democratic party and you'll see who is really in charge. The rest is just marketing fluff. Biden is the safer choice. It's not that hard to understand why he'll probably be at the top of the ticket. Biden was vice president and it isn't hard for most people to imagine him as president. At least he "looks the part". I guess that's half the battle. Unfortunately a lot of people will base their votes on 'looks'. This year, it's important for Democrats to base their votes on whoever is most likely to take out trump and that's Biden. It is what it is. It seems most African-American voters don't seem to mind voting for that old white guy at all, in fact they just might have saved Biden's candidacy and this entire country. It would have been just great if the person most likely to take out trump was less white, old and male. But all 29 of the original Democrat candidates are frickin' Jesus Christ compared to trump, yes even the old white guys. In a normal election, I think the Democrat voters would have been more willing to take risk with a "less-traditional" looking presidential candidate like Hillary or Barrack or Buttigieg or Sanders. But it's just too important to remove the current wannabee dictator and chief and convicted criminal pardoner and p)(ssycat-grabbing election-fixer, impeached Ukraine blackmailer. If Democrats were running against Romney or Jeb Bush or someone who owns a soul instead of a subscription to The Crusader, I'll bet Joe would have never even entered the race. Yes, he's 4 years older than trump and he doesn't wear spray tan or color his hair or have raccoon eyes - but Biden is far more likely to pick off a few republicans that have a conscience than most of the other Democrat candidates were - God love them. I like Sanders just fine, but I doubt there's time to try to convince all the MAGAtards that they are ALREADY Socialists - at least the ones who aren't collecting Social Security and Medicare, yet. But who knows, we might have to make the time to convince them. This thing's not over yet. It's probably set, but there could be a few more wild cards out there. As of today trump's Coronavirus has infected over 530 Americans and killed 21. This time last week, after he took time off from campaigning and raising funds for trump, Coronavirus Czar Pencelneck said there were under 20 infected and 1 old person in their 50's "who was going to die anyway" had "unfortunately expired from it" (don't worry, Fat Hitler says go to work if you have it, it's under control and we don't need anymore ships "adding to our numbers"). I wonder what that number will be by next November? Even if it's just a killer "hoax", all 3 presidential contenders have a higher risk of infection and death than the average American. Call it a "hoax", call it an "unforeseen problem", call it Armageddon, but don't say you have a clue what this country will look like by November. Here's some more hoax. COVID-19 could serious screw up oil and the airlines and a lot of other industries for a long while. The Futures Market today predicts the bottom falling out tomorrow because oil is tanking (but what to they know). Money Changes Everything. It might go away in the summer (although Australia tells us otherwise) but it will be back just in time for the election. And trump has time to create another 2 or 3 hundred scandals by then.
