The lighting on 609 Main crown wasn't installed properly so instead of fixing it he built Texas Tower with superior crown lighting to cover it up. 6
toxtethogrady
609 was always going to be hard to spot, given its location within a cluster of highrises. Pennzoil is even harder to spot now, and it used to be the most distinctive building downtown.

Here are two more in that series. This first photo is a lot more manipulated than I really like, but the lighting was crap. Next time I'm doing this during the morning commute. And this one... did not need quite as much manipulation. Edited March 27, 2022 by MidCenturyMoldy
skooljunkie
I’ve been enjoying viewing this tower at night from around Heights and Washington. The lighting on top pops from that viewpoint. I didn’t really notice it until this week.

My phone can never quite capture the view, and it looks like even night mode cant save it. I am shamefully sharing them anyway. I really should just buy a beginner camera and take some intro classes. freundb
If this was complete and had a light ring on the top, I could share this same angle and half of reddit wouldn't even realize it wasn't actually in downtown. At least with my potato camera any way.

Thank you Hines Corp. Have I also mentioned lately how much we really need a couple more SUPER tall skyscrapers again in Downtown Houston ? Just thought I'd add that in there. But I do like the Ukrainian Blue and Gold around the top of the Esperson building... Our downtown is much larger both in height and the number of buildings. Also, our downtown is just downtown, Dallas' downtown is a mesh of downtown and uptown. I guess the LED lights are a nice touch, but LED lights doesn't always mean a nicer skyline. Look at Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Miami's downtown, far superior skylines with no-to little LED ascent lighting. We're definitely in a different ball game.
