Urbannizer
This old warehouse will be converted to 80 residential units. A two-story building that was later an addition will also be converted to residential; with retail space as well. 810_Sampson_MATERIALS.pdf http://www.ghabriel.com/modules/catalog/products_images/000040_2.jpg http://www.ghabriel.com/modules/catalog/products_images/000040_4.jpg

HoustonMidtown
I live across McKinney from this - I have always thought these would make great lofts....great addition to the neighborhood... EDIT: I see they will be apartments....I was assuming condos....still good though!! Edited May 8, 2015 by HoustonMidtown
samagon
this place will have a great view of downtown for pretty much ever considering the location to the railroad tracks (turn a negative into a positive!).

cspwal
Cool but dangerous looking freight elevator. I hope they keep a lot of the industrial features in the new building - maybe even make that freight elevator the one for furniture and couches and stuff somehow
Popular Post Urbannizer
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/Imagine-an-East-End-furniture-warehouse-as-lofts-6735408.php#photo-9199673 Come next month, construction is set to begin on the redevelopment of the old manufacturing facility into a residential building called Sampson Lofts. The units are expected to attract students or those with downtown service or administrative jobs who can't afford a $2,000 per month apartment or $400,000 townhouse. The apartments - mostly efficiencies and one-bedrooms - will average 700 square feet and rent for around $1,050, which Azizi called "pretty low" by downtown standards. "I anticipate this project to be full fast," he said. He said his construction loan has been approved and building permits have been requested for the roughly $15 million redevelopment project, which is expected to take close to two years to complete.

H-Town Man
Cool project, but I wonder if Houston has very many warehouses with actual wooden columns and girders? Not sure when the changeover to concrete happened. I saw the inside of a warehouse in Springfield, MA the other day that looked like it had taken out a forest of Ents. Just beautiful. They're not actually keeping the graffiti, are they?
Texasota
The larger building is all structural timber actually. The interior photos are all of the smaller (newer) building.

UtterlyUrban
This is great news. Exciting project! if the price point that they quoted (about a Grand a month) holds up, I do think that they will lease quickly.

cspwal
I hope they're investing in some sound proofing... I lived in a place that was about 100' from a busy railroad - it was a turn in the track too, and the squealing was loud if you opened a window or a door. Inside though, you didn't notice unless you were trying to sleep

cspwal
You can hear horns for miles though - and people still get hit by the train at crossings
samagon
All the tracks by my house are quiet zones now. It helps highlight how annoyingly loud they are when the do blow the horns. As a constant thing, I didn't notice it every night, but now that it's once a month or two, it really bothers me.
