Montrose1100
In the rendering facing Fairview @ Montrose, They have the Hollywood Corner store/2 Story apartment complex with sunken garage as some blank taller structure. Foreshadowing?
trymahjong
Thanks for the update. I have been out of town for a few months and didn't keep up with the variance process. Most times it seems most protests make little difference unless you are on point and vocal about it. I like the rendering but am still skeptical about the trees being approved so close to the street. Mainly I hope to preserve as much "green" as possible. It's the green space that seems hard to come by. I'm delighted by developer driven top notch sidewalks and don't mind if the building casts a longer shadow because it's a floor or two higher.
HoustonMidtown
Hollywood Vietnamese to be closed by Black Friday: http://swamplot.com/hollywood-vietnamese-will-be-gone-by-black-friday/2014-11-17/ It's interesting that they are moving back to their original location (where the "book" store currently is).... trymahjong
I'm guessing it's because they are the property owners and it will give them a quick(easy?) way to restart without losing too much client base- hopefully some of the "pizazz" of that original location can be rekindled!
Texasota
There's also just a huge amount of late night activity in the immediate area that can easily continue to support the business as long as it stays right in the thick of it.
trymahjong
Yep lots of activity and since Hollywood Vietnamese usually stayed open fairly late there were lots of people who liked that. But I remember walking to the original location maybe 10 years ago or so and the vibe was different somehow seems the food was different also IDK but I liked it then and thought it faded after the newer location opened and I miss it. . . .

Alec
^ Did they tear down something else? Comparing to May 2, everything looks the same except the rubble pile is bigger.
jmitch94
I think they may have just taken up all the concrete, and piled it up. That's my guess at least.

houstontexasjack
Combing back through the renderings, it looks as though a Houston B-Cycle station is proposed near this thing. I am quite hopeful, should that come to fruition, that other developers might take note to add a station as an amenity for apartments.
mollusk
Fortunately, Lola's is still there to act as a counterbalance. Edit: For those unfamiliar, it's the purple building in the background. It has a wonderfully manky pissoir. Edited July 26, 2015 by mollusk
