kylejack
Which space in that center did they replace?
RedScare
The name sounds terrible, and the drinks in mason jars angle looks hokey. Something about trying too hard comes to mind. And, that drink with a glob of strawberry jam in it? Holy jesus, that is nasty! Looks like someone hacked up a piece of their lung into the jar! rci2145
I agree with Redscare but I will give the place a try. My immediate thought was. "What a stupid name for a bar."
KinkaidAlum
I used to go to a place in Boston called The Good Life. It was an awesome dive jazz bar that served food. Gotta agree that the strawberry preserve drink in a mason jar isn't really calling my name...
kylejack
It opened today. Almost anything's worth a shot, so I'll probably check it out.
RedScare
It opened today. Almost anything's worth a shot, so I'll probably check it out. Please order the jam in tequila calamity and report back.
kylejack
I went last night and ordered a different calamity, some gin drink that comes with a spoon of honeycomb and Honey Nut Cheerios on top. The drink was fine, but what the hell am I supposed to do to mix a honeycomb and Cheerios into a mason jar cocktail full of big ice cubes?? Or do I just eat a spoonful of honeycomb? The place is odd. The grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup was fine. Not much desire to go back.
Slick Vik
I was going to try it, but I guess not.
kylejack
4 bars opening in Midtown now or shortly. Capitol Bar is open on Main a block from Mongoose. The Good Life at 510 W Gray. A beer bar called Warhal's is coming in at the 2016 Main Sammy's space. And Dogwood should be open soon.
kylejack
Ah, The Good Life is from the racist Sawyer Park charlatans. Back on my blacklist it goes.

Purdueenginerd
Went here this weekend. Crowd was a bit douchey for my tastes. (Friday night). Waited 30 minutes for a drink-- they ended up giving my girlfriend and I free drinks and shots (35 dollars worth to be exact). Not an awful place, not great. Interesting drink menu and an assortment of edible shots were neat.
Charles Z
Been a couple times. Decent food, especially for a bar. It's upbeat and a good change of pace from some of the other bars. I stuck with beer, so I can't elaborate on the specialty shots except that they look neat. It's ideal if you don't want go to a nice restaurant but don't want to stay at home. rci2145
I went there 2 nights ago. I liked the overall concept and atmosphere. Their specialty drinks were not worth the money though. Bad recipes and come in a jar full of ice. If I'm paying 10 bucks for a drink, I don't want 15 ice cubes melting in it as I drink it. I think the place has potential if they iron out the kinks. kylejack
Looks like they are closed for renovations already.... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2013/12/another-midtown-houston-bar-shuts.html I've heard the renovations lie before. Businesses that are locked in to a lease will sometimes say this so they can extract all their furniture and equipment before the landlord changes the locks. The Good Life joins Warhal's in the list of bars that have both opened and closed in 2013 in Midtown. Purdueenginerd
That location has seen like what 8 bars in the last 7 years? Strip mall bars must be hard to keep open...
rci2145
I never went back to Good Life since my first visit in March. It is a bad location for a bar due to the strip mall. Worhols is located across from the Greyhound station and the Crackdonald's. Not much chance for them either. There are too many better options.
