  1. Well I can tell you one thing for sure: there will never be a Houston socialite up to her ears in an oil for food scandle by way of her hubby. I wonder if she and Oscar are footing any of their buddy Saddam's defense costs? Anyway, besides her involvement with one of Saddam's enabelers, I nominate her as Houston's Most Anorexic Socialite. What a grand example to represent our city: "Oh looky! Theres Lynn Wyatt at the opera. I wonder if Saddam or Oscar gave her the jewels?"
  2. It has nothing to do with glass. All skyscrapers have a skeleton. One Shell has a concrete skeleton clad in travertine with glass windows; Wells Fargo has a steel skeleton with an all glass cladding. Their lifespans are dependent on maintenance for the most part. Left unmaintained, it's anyone's guess whether a concrete skeleton would out live a bare steel skeleton. Some alloys of structural steel can withstand the elements for over 100 years. The Lever house was built in 1952 [same year I was built ] and has been overhauled in the last few years. I am confident it will be standing and in use long after I am gone.
  3. OK...now you guys are creeping me out-and I'm gay! Please stop before images of a Gary/Red, dal and TJ getting it on becomes permanantly embedded in my brain!
  4. Wow. And yet you still felt the need to bore us with a life story most could'nt give a crap about. As Gary said, "you sound like a real jerk" though you seem quite content to denigrate yourself further to asshole status. How very proud that must make one feel.
  5. Blame Red http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...mp;#entry114291
  6. You have nothing to base that on. Just your typical B.S. Why are we not surprised? Stay on the topic. This is about the destruction of the ROT-not some mythical fantasy that you seem hell-bent on propagating.
  7. Not much of "something" because the Weingartens of the world are still guaranteed that they will be allowed to rape, plunder and doze at the slightest whim. As for public shaming-these people had no shame to begin with.Council and the Mayor need to grow a spine and pass something with some teeth-not just window dressing.
  8. It doesn't look like a rumor-sorry to say. If you talk to Lynn before Thursday, PLEASE tell her to leave Oscar at home-having one of Saddam's buddys show up might be a deal killer.
  9. Me too. I've never understand why a grown man gets millions to play a kid's game in a tax-payer supported luxury stadium while those same taxpayers delicate flower when someone wants a little of those taxes to give teachers a pay hike. I hope your Texans do well. Will they actually be PLAYING football this year?
  10. Well, they'll lose 8 tenants and gain 3-maybe more: a restaurant, a B&N(?) and a 1500 sq' addition so who knows. Maybe they could put in a dry cleaners, a bank branch and a Shipley's. In any event, the destruction will just make it another piece of crap strip mall. Enjoy.
  11. Same architect-Hermes-with Weingarten Realty stamp. It's really all I can say except for the above^^^. Hermes does a pretty decent job on their strip centers. If I were an architect working there, I'd have a hard time being a part of the destruction of the entire center-save Kroger. Just my 2... Pumapayam: Can't speak for the other Starbucks. I'm assuming it will go if they tear that section down along with the theatre.
  12. I've received permission to describe the site plan but not to post the actual drawing. 1. An approx. 100' wide by 400' long 3 story parking garage is situated 7' from the north property line. It aligns with the eastern end of the existing wing next to La Griglia and travels west for 400' 2. There is a 6400 sq/ft freestanding building-80' x 80'-that stands 25' off the S. Shepherd property line and approx. 80' off the north property line. Someone has marked it "Future Restaurant" with a sharpie. 3. There is a 30,000 sq/ft addition where Jos. Banks is that is marked "Lease Space". It is 120' x 125' and is situated approx 55' west of Talbots and approx. 55' from the W. Gray property line. It also has a smaller 1500 sq/ft lease space attached to it's west side 20' x 75'. 4. The Starbucks stays as is. Everything else is surface parking. The entire curved wing is destroyed. So grab your pencils and sketch it out. This is how it stands of today. This directly from my source's email:
  13. I just received a copy of the site plan for north of W.Gray. I can't share it with you as I promised I wouldn't but I can tell you this: The symmetry of the center will be blown out of the water. ROC becomes the same old SOS you'll find anywhere. BTW, Nancy Sarnoff is now at Gensler.
  14. As the debate rolls on, you become more illogical. Your backdoor accusation of firstngoal wanting to take away an individual's property rights is just illogical as he said no such thing. You are grasping at straws. And for you to decide what a persons character "shall become"-do you really want to go there? Can the BS-we've all heard it all before-ad nauseam. ______________________________________________________________ 9:35 PM-17,749 http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/riveroaks/
  15. I definatly remember eating at Bill Williams but don't recall the creepy fortune teller woman in a box there. When I would see her as a kid, it scared the crap outta me.
  16. Weingarten (WRI/NYSC) is a highly regarded stock with very low risk. I don't think they're having any cash problems. I just think they're not a good corporate citizen when it comes to their plans for ROC and ROT. For a full list of their area holdings, go to http://www.weingarten.com/retail/?st_abbr=TX if you are interested in no longer patronizing their developments. Personally, I'm against boycotting them because it only hurts their tenants. I'm more inclined to lobby the tenants as opposed to lobbying Weingarten-they seem immune to public sentiment.
  17. I'm not sure they are "rouge"-having been elected by the majority of their constituents. As far as garnering your respect for anything outside your ethereal fantasy market-based society, that would be as pointless as the above wasted band-width.
  18. No one is dictating-they are just sharing opinions. Other than the mayor and city counsil intervening, Weingarten will do what Weingarten will do. Now, as to you question, "When's the last time you took in a movie at the River Oaks theater ? Just how many movies HAVE you seen at that theater ?": Strangers with Candy this week and I've been going all my life so since I'm over 50, do you really expect me to REMEMBER how many movies I've seen? That was so many dead brain cells ago.
  19. That came from an archirtectural site plan with Weingarten's logo created by Hermes Architects. Apparently the chron got their hands on one. I'd kill to see it. >
  20. Since the petition was started on the 22nd, almost 14,000 signatures have been posted. That's an average over 2300 a day-a margin of victory in some council races. Pressure needs to be placed on ALL council members and the mayor to have the ROC designated as a Protected Landmark. It is in their power to do so but may be afraid of their large contributor donor base. As David Bush of GHPA said I'm not adverse to holding their butts to the fire. Write your council member, all at-large members and the Mayor.
