  1. In my early 20's I began working as an intern at LLoyd/Jones. It took about two hours to realize that was not what I should be doing. After a a couple of years I jumped ship and delved into what I really loved: decorative and ornamental metals. Ultimatly I became the owner of a company that became a sub to some of the largest projects in Houston, Austin and Chicago. Now at 54 I am comfortably retired, designing residential and creating sculpture-some which sells!! Follow your gut and heart...trust in your self.
  2. 4 if you count me and mine. I agree...the math is screwed.
  3. Of course it's not organic in the "blog" sense but it does contain verifiable info. Just because someone predictably labels everything that comes out of METRO a "scare tactic" does not make it so.
  4. In the 80's I was standing in line with a co-worker at Albritons-waiting to pay the check. There was the typical little old lady luncher in her perfect powder blue polyester 2-peice and aqua-net stiff washed once aweek hair-do. She was about 5' tall so I could see directly into her do. I froze and looked at my co-worker. He looked, froze and then proceeded to reach for the woman's shoulder to alert her. I grabbed his arm and shook my head "NO." I didn't want either of us to be the one to cause the first death in Albritons from fear due to a 1 1/2" Palmeto roach in a hair-do.
  5. I live 5 blocks west on N. Main. It's gotten so bad we just walk to the Farmer's Market. It is slated for rehabilitation from N. Main to 610 in 2008 at a cost of 2.5 million. It is well worth it due to the commerce that occurs on this stretch-perhaps one of the most concentrated inside the loop. Broadway from Hobby to 45: "Welcome to Houston Hell"
  6. Go for it. Might we suggest you title it: Macking Gays with Loving Homes...What's the Debate?
  7. I can only speak for myself. I don't have the need to tell anyone-I just live my life for what it is. The only times I feel it nessessary to discuss anyone's sexual orientation is when people start up the "gay agenda" crap [could someone PLEASE send me a copy???] or accuse gays of wanting "special rights" or the most common and irrational "you CHOOSE to be this way!." Uh...yeah...I love being a member of one of the most maligned segments in society...good "choice" BTW TJ...you better watch out admitting I'm your "...number one Gay,..." around here; you may get some nasty IM's from some of Puma's-er-"friends"...
  8. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/26/clinic.bomb/index.html I find it odd that the anti-choice gangs tend to resort to murder while the pro-choice groups tends to err on the side of individual choice. BTW, the majority of those individual choices are full term pregnancies resulting in adoption or maternal/paternal recievership.
  9. Totally off topic but perhaps deserving of a topic were I so inclined. As a 54 YO man I tend to agree with music. We are grown ups. I've never tagged him as music-boi nor he has tagged me as nmain-boi. We're just gay men...too old to be labeled boi [boy] by any standard. The only labels I desire are just to be good guys with diverse views. Maybe you could just call us "diverse bois?"
  10. Hot water heater. Think about that. We have a tankless water heater so we never have to heat water-hot or otherwise.
  11. SL is no different from any other suburb whether it be The Woodlands or Webster. They are areas/cities that exist because of Houston. So let's just celebrate those that choose to live there daily pump $$ into the CoH's coffers. I'm thankful to take their contributions to build new sidewalks, reconsturct streets, built new water lines and construct new sewage lift stations in Sunset Heights and beyond.
  12. Well we all at one time or another make assumptions about people we know nothing about. That being said, I relate to your description that you don't appear like the sterotypical gay male. I don't either. Those I care about and who care about me are not concerned with my sexual orientation. I've attempted to engage those who disparage my orientation and have been succesfull in some instances. When I've been successful it's great. When not it's been a sad loss all the way around. I also understand your co-worker issues. Fortunatly for me, I have always been an employer which gave me power over those that would attempt to use an employee's sexual orientation against them. As a result one female was dismissed for poor performance as she refused to co-operate with a lesbian co-worker. That was a rare case when someone was not dismissed because of sexual orientation-it was a case of someone useing a fellow employee's orientation as an excuse to not perform the duties she was hired for. BTW, the EEOC challange she presented failed miserably.
  13. I was never in so there was no place to come out of. I always knew I prefered men and never pretended otherwise. I was [and am] lucky to be born into the family I have.
  14. My SO and I are good drivers. Our pristine 98' Ford 150 has 65,000 miles. My 83' 350 Mercedes has over 200,000 miles. Our 06' Lexus was stolen the day after we bought it. My little sister is still driving an 04' Toyota built in the US. Her boss mocked her for driving a "foreign car." She asked him why he drove a Canadian built Buick while she drove a US built Toyota. She was dismissed 3 months later and immediately went to work for Harold Farb. The hypocrisy is stunning.
  15. 51% v 49% does not represent an entirety. Everyone seems to get that but you.
  16. I've never avoided confronting hatered. Your brand is as common as air. While it may be no problem for others, it's impossible to close myself off from calling people like you out on your bigotry and disregard for human life.
  17. The US Congress is not entirely Democrat. The Senate is 51% Democrat/Independent caucasing Democrat and 49% Republican. The House is 53% Democrat and 47% Republican. Looks like Kink's "tyranny" isn't so tyranical after all. I'll post again when the Democrat's majority in the Senate increases in 2008. (Open and/or up for election: 21 Republicans and 12 Democrats.)
  18. There is no surprise that you advocate treating people like s***. However it's odd you "don't hate them or have anything personal against them" when you clearly display a distain for them. It would seem you should be advocating education and health care as a solution to the problem. Imagine rehabilitated individuals becoming productive, tax-paying individuals. But you don't really advocate that. You are more interested in treating people like "s***" as a solution. On a personal note, it is people like you, moon and barnes that have driven me away from HAIF. Why should I log on to the internet when I can walk down any street in town and hear the hatred you spew? Please don't mistake my anger for hatered. I don't hate you or have anything personal against you, but you aren't nice to have around.
  19. We had a meeting there with an attorney last month. For us, it was a hassle because we had to go to Sugarland. For the lawyer, it was a hassle because he had to pay for the Luby's class fare in addition to paying an 18% gratuity. Needless to say, he didn't get the job.
  20. Although I'm leary of the "If we build it, they will come" I agree. My destination of choice would be a mosquito infested BRP over any number of museums, Jones Hall, Wortham Center, Alley Theatre, Shephard Hall, Hobby Center, Hermann and Memorial Parks, Reliant Center, Toyota Center, or Minute Maid Park-to name a few.
  21. Absolutly. Houston has nothing on Dallas when it comes to skylines.
  22. As I've said previously, balconies are relevant to the tenants. I have a couple of older friends that live in Four Leaf. They moved there for the amenities and the views-not because they did or didn't have balconys. Conversly, I have younger friends who live in Park IV who initially loved their 10th floor east facing balconies. One of them does and the other would rather have the additional square footage rather than a balcony. There's a mix of potential buyers and there is no reason why buildings with no balconies trump those with balconies. Should Westheimer Tower without balconies be succesfull-great. However, if you look at the elevations, there is any number of possible balconies at the offsets. I'd just love to see something like this to go up so I'd have a full service place to retire to.
