  1. Ummmm...no. It's a three way intersection like exists in tens of other places downtown. But when did my little rhinestone ever let facts stand in his way?
  2. If you are not comfortable then I suggest you walk away. That isn't the only house for sale. We are landlords and have found older homes are much better built and attractive to the kind of renters we seek out: grad students; young professionals; etc... But we also recognize that most "flippers" do the minimum to attract the guliable. In any event, we have always replaced knob and tube wiring and antiquated plumbing as well as taking care of any structural and cosmetic issues that come with an older house. It's an investment to us and has paid off in the long run. If you are buying a house to be a home or to be for rental income, you may want to take the longer view: invest a sum upfront and reap the rewards later. Employ a respected inspector who may tell you things you don't want to hear but need to hear. It takes patience but the payoff is great!
  3. So after reading the survey, I've concluded that 62% of the respondents don't rank crime as the most serious problem. So why was this thread started? I wonder why musicman didn't add that 62% of the respondents don't rank crime as the most serious problem. Or why 73% aren't "very worried" about personally being a crime victim. Was it just another lame attempt at sensationalizing figures that don't represent the majority? Did he think no one would look at the other side of the coin? This kind of thing is really getting old on HAIF and in public in general. If all you can do is cut and paste a Chron article and offer no analysis then expect to get the kind of knee-jerk reactions you find in this thread. Hell, I can just turn to talk radio and get the same uninformed feedback.
  4. I watched that this evening as well and thought of our Niche. Never the less, I have found it to be fruitless to argue with the Niches of the world. The dollar will always over ride humanity, logic, facts and the thousands of scientists who have more experience than any of us will ever have. The Niche will come back and say there's no empirical evidence (when there actually has been empirial evidence) or something wasn't peer reviewed (when in actuality it has been peer reviewed). It's a tedious and pointless battle and really doesn't deserve my time. If he and others were really interested they would do their own research and stop deriding those that have. My friend houstonmacbro has created an important thread here. He has been sincere and polite and has stood against alot of ridicule: "Oh no! Miniscule changes! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"; Blatant C & P's from our resident plagerist. I'm sure most of us would appriciate it if he could be treated with a modicum of respect.
  5. All of my nieces and nephews (6 of them) have gone to private high schools except one. She went to HSPVA. She is a succesful actress on Broadway while the other five are working as a spec writer/checker at an architectual firm, baristars at Starbucks and the last two are still in private school. One of those is going to be quite successful and the other will probably end up being a biker chick. If you have a choice in your area, pick the best and if your kids are already bright, they'll do fine. If any of your kids are artistic, apply to HSPVA and see what happens. I understand your $$ issues from our discussions so the best I can give you is to hang in there and look for what's best for your kids-not what some article says is the best.
  6. I don't know what you're drinking over there in Pasadena but NO BODY is dictating that anyone be forced to learn any language. Feel free to rant with your free-style use of Caps all you like but be prepared to be called out when you make so many absurd statements.
  7. Well all I can say to you, "buddy" is I am with you 100% on sportscasters and appreciate that you've never addressed me as "buddy." Us older guys appreciate the courtesy.
  8. "Dude????" I've never heard that used by a senior citizen until now.
  9. When I was 25 there had already been a huge influx of VietNamese along the coast. People were so up in arms that "these people have invaded our culture. We'll never be the same again." When my grandfather jumped ship in Boston in the early 1900's people were so up in arms that "these people have invaded our culture. We'll never be the same again." They were right. Our culture was infected with a work ethic that has always been the corner stone of our culture. Am I as an anglo-saxon worried that my hold on control is threatened by people that want nothing more than to be a part of my "gang?" No. My greater fear is that racist misoginists destroy our culture in order to insill their idea of a "pure" utopia. I choose to believe they go down the path of the Hitlers of of history.
  10. Topics like this are generally started with the intention to "incite to excite." There is no "cultural phenomenon" regarding concealed handguns. Most people don't carry concealed hanguns. Sensational? Yes? Phenomenon? No. Another example is talk radio which is famous for inciting to excite. Conservatives get all puffed up and brag that MORE people listen to Limbaugh than Air America. No one disputes that. But no one ever mentions that MOST people listen to either. And that is the crux of the problem with threads like this. MOST bus trips don't envolve gun slinging. MOST bus rides are safe. Now if someone wants to start a thread about the most accidents involving Red Line trains striking vehicles I would welcome that. Then we could discuss the fact the trains would have never struck the vehicles if the vehicle drivers had obeyed traffic signs and warnings. Now THAT would be a legitimate discussion. One shooting on a bus is not a cultural phenomenon but I would say private vehicle operators setting themselves up to be hit by trains on a fixed guideway is definatly a topic worth delving into. Edit: Well that's what I get for sending a reply on my screen created earlier before reading additional postings. So even though Red was more economic with his replys, I've finally gotten something off my chest when it comes to topics created to incite. And I am as guilty as the next in buying in. I will endevour to do better in the future.
  11. Don't worry. I'm sure Miller will fail as miserbly as he has at every other thing he's ever done.
  12. Darrel caught Tracy getting it on with Devin in a pick-up the night after Tracy text messaged Devin with ""Hi friend, come see me please! I need to feel your warm embrace!". Then Tracy "cried rape." Then Darrel murders Devin before wondering if Tracy just might be a willing participant. Tracy "was charged with making a false report to a police officer -- for allegedly saying she was raped" So Darrel murdered Devin in a fit of passion but Tracy takes the hit because she apparently falsely accused Devin of rape. Besides the fact that this is classic Texas Trailer Trash Drama, I would find it far more satisfying to dump Tracy and make sure everyone knows that she and Devin are nothing more than co-whores. BTW, our guns ae used strictly to assasinate Bambie's mom on an annual basis.
  13. Great. Glad we cleared that up.
  14. I wasn't referring to you and I haven't missed the point of your topic. But you mention a man with a history that can't be ignored when it is perceived that once again he has made questionable public statements. BTW, I didn't bash you. I employed "hateful, insensitive sarcasm" according to the Church Lady . Now some people get "really tired of hearing about gay stuff in every single thread" when most threads mention nothing about gays. That person may have a problem he's not dealing with by making such a broad unsubstantiated statement and his continual attacks on myself and other gay forum members. But again, when you start a thread on a man like Richardson, you have to expect the whole package to be discussed. As for your question, "I mean, was he really speaking ill of Jews?" He definatly employed some of the stereotypes that have been historically used to demonize Jews but I think he's too stupid to even know what he was parroting. So regardless of whether or not he was speaking ill of Jews, it has been perceived as such and he has been suspended by his employer.
  15. Better watch what you say...lest you too be eviscerated for daring to bring up the "homosexual slur" issue. I've already been instructed that I'm bitter for merely deviating one inch from the topic by our resident Church Lady.
  16. Could you imagine what would happen if people on here were ridiculing the design of a co-Cathedral? http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...hp?showtopic=36 post #22
  17. Well, since the editor doesn't have a ban on death threats, I can't imagine him having a problem with ridiculing any building of any kind.
  18. Me too. It's a sad day in the U.S. when a banned NBA crack-head can't even rag on Jews and gays without getting suspended by a third rate BB association.
