  1. I think the difficulty is acquiring the ROW and constructing the infrastructure. Downtown Dallas is fairly easily accessible as they already have a decent train station there. With the proposed HSR line coming from the north, getting it to Hardy Yards is by far the path of least resistance. If they wanted to use existing ROW, they'd have to circle around quite a bit to reach the Post Office location. Besides, I don't think the Hardy location is bad. It's a very easy five minute light rail ride to the heart of downtown, and it's not that much different than 30th Street Station in Philadelphia that's outside of downtown, but right on the subway line.
  2. Would be nice to have a station at IAH just to take care of the IAH-Downtown rail connection problem, would be nice to take an express train up there from downtown. And maybe one stop in the Woodlands. More than that is too much.
  3. That's the most realistic spot IMO. Hopefully Amtrak can move their operations there as well, and we can have a hub with all rail service in one spot (even though Amtrak trains wouldn't be able to mix with the HSR trains, a separate track could be built).
  4. It's gonna look nice when it finally fills in.
  5. They have an "airport" station on the blue line that has shuttle buses that get you to the terminals within 5 min. In addition they have the Silver line, so they have two methods of getting to the airport.
  6. If I read the pdf right, it's suggesting that bus operations will be in general traffic (not in its own lane) along the stretch on 610??? Where traffic is the worst? Seems like they are setting this thing up to fail, no wonder why it's so cheap.
  7. Seems like a pretty crude job of removing those ledges that stuck out, but I should probably wait until it's finished before I complain.
  8. Wow, this thing is moving fast!
  9. This would be the best thing to happen to the region in awhile. It'd change everything. I'm trying not to get my hopes up though, lol.
  10. I generally agree with this, but about the Northeast, remember that most Southwest flights in the Northeast are to and from destinations outside the Northeast. There are some shuttle flights here but they are all smaller planes like US Airways express, JetBlue etc. And those airlines don't seem to have nearly the amount of flights between Houston and Dallas as Southwest, American and United do relative to population. Amtrak takes over 50% of the air/rail share up here, a HSR between Houston and Dallas (if done right) would make a huge dent in the airliner's share. However United collaborates with Amtrak in the NEC and incorporates them into their rewards system, perhaps Southwest might do that with this project.
  11. Eh, in the unlikely event that this thing happens, I'd be shocked if trains started running any sooner than like 2035. It's a shame.
  12. Tearing down the existing structures? It's a shame that they picked one of the few blocks that aren't surface parking lol.
  13. They're still not done with this?? Thanks for the update!
  14. Geez, power lines suck, you'd think that Midtown would bury these considering how urban it's getting.
  15. What's that building right behind it on the same block? Looks unrecognizable to me. EDIT: I see it now, looks slightly different in the rendering.
  16. Perfectly fine with this building. I'd like to see Midtown have more stuff like this TBH.
