  1. I guess, Houston tends to have more boxy buildings though, Atlanta, Dallas, LA, Boston and Philly all have more "interesting" buildings, Houston really loves its boxy buildings. Downtown is full of typical buildings, the one that I like is the Bank of America building.
  2. Disappointing, but hey, it's Houston, it's to be expected.

    METRORail Green Line

Thanks for the photo updates guys. Quick question from an out-of-towner, is the lane the train is on separated from traffic at all like the Main street line, or can you drive on the tracks when the train isn't there?
  4. Tunnels are fine from a practicality standpoint, people can pretty much go wherever they want without having to go outside, which is convenient. Although I wish that there were some tunnels for trains as well downtown. They suck from an aesthetic point of view, making downtown Houston look dead and lifeless from the streets, but whatever.

    METRORail Green Line

Sadly, I'd be surprised if either airport gets rail service within the next 30-40 years or so, METRO seems to be abandoning their rail plans. Or they've kept quiet about any long range plans at least. I doubt that 2007 master plan is still in play.
  6. LOL - I love how in the pic the guy's right blinker is on in a left turn only lane, smh.
  7. Seems like a neat development, but part of me thinks that after work is completed, it'll just be as dead as usual in non-business hours. Much like Houston Pavillions, err Green Street. Is there a plan for more actual retail along this stretch?
  8. Wow, that looks very nice. Thanks for posting the vid!
  9. Is that the central square building in the background being totally gutted? Thanks for the pics.
  10. I feel like this is more of a question of what is local vs. what is regional. TxDOT is clearly a state transportation agency that should cover ALL modes, not just rubber-tired infrastructure. But should they be doing local feeder roads? Or the 610 loop which is purely local infrastructure? It's an interesting debate for sure.
  11. Politics as usual. Anti-rail people have powerful friends.
  12. Yeah, that's just one of the proposed locations, but it's doubtful that it gets inside of 610 whatever alignment they choose. Best chance for a downtown stop is the Hardy Yards area. They are also looking at the Post Office location. Of course nothing is set in stone but I'd assume they'd go with the cheapest option which would be a stop around the 610 loop, whether it's at the Northwest mall or near 610 and 45.
  13. "Galleria Area" could mean around 290/Northwest Transit Center area, I've been told. It will be very difficult to get the line all the way to downtown or a more central area, which is a shame, but the cost of the necessary infrastructure to do that will likely not be worth it to a private company.
  14. Hell, at the very least I'd like to see some landscaping. The landscaping near the 59 interchange is nice but I wish it were extended down until 610 at least. Rail is an interesting idea but I'm not sure that 288 south has the population to support it, lot's of vast empty spaces before Pearland it seems. Commuter rail maybe, but it will be difficult to bring commuters into downtown using rail, lots of new expensive infrastructure needs to be built. Rail could be successful if done right, I'd like to see a branch off to the Medical Center if that's the case. Realistically I'd imagine that some sort of tollway will be built eventually, similar to HOT lanes.
  15. I hope that a downtown Houston stop is a given and that is the reason for it not being mentioned in this article.
  16. Just noting that I hadn't noticed it under construction yet. And yeah, personally, I'd prefer the rail system to be underground but whatever. It'll serve the hotel nicely.
  17. Can see the new METRORail station in the lower part of that first pic... seems like that thing popped up pretty quick! Nice work.
  18. I'm assuming that tunneling isn't an option due to cost. Removing it entirely and widening I-10 and US59 is an interesting idea. Realistically I don't see anything happening for the foreseeable future.
