  1. So the Walmart harmed the area vs what is was before?
  2. Ahhh...so that's what happened to my Penny's. That spot still isn't filled at West Oaks, though I heard some rumors about it being turned into an artist studio. They just finished tearing down most of the wing of West Oaks that went to the old Mervyn's and put in an outdoor-oriented movie theater and space for some restaurants. Given the way the rest of the mall is now, with mostly local tenants, it wouldn't surprise me if they tear down the rest and make it all outdoor-oriented or just redevelop the mall land into something else.
  3. Walmart makes things better wherever one pops up. Lower prices, larger selection, more competition, and redevelopment of surrounding areas are just a few advantages of having a Walmart come in. Plus it allows people of all socio-economic levels to rub elbows lest some forget that there are others out there who don't spend all day fretting about their neighbor's windows or worrying about buying humanely treated beef.
  4. They need to bring Krispy Kreme back.
  5. As busy as City Centre is, I'll bet we see redevelopment of those properties, especially the strip mall, in the near future. City Center is hemmed in on the East, West and South sides unless they can redevelop the land the Country Playhouse is sitting on directly South. Only question is will the redevelopment be by the same developers or a different group.
  6. Sounds like the "Premium Outlet Mall" project mentioned above eventually got moved over to 290 in Cypress and has been open for the past few years as "Houston Premium Outlets".
  7. I was intrigued by the Amazon locker thing so I looked it up. Couldn't find any locations in the Houston area.
  8. I read in the chron yesterday that a couple of folks are trying to do just that.
  9. I noticed that too on the disclosures when I was buying our house here. I'd guess that shows up due to a lawsuit someone filed when a real estate purchase went south. That's only based on your own knowledge, though. If the house goes through a foreclosure then the document trail goes cold and you don't find out much about the history of the house unless you do your own digging so a house could be the site a mass murder and you won't know if it goes back to the bank before you buy it.
  10. Except for their frappes which are close enough to the Starbucks version, but a lot cheaper. And they used to have a hot sweet potato pie that was pretty good. Last time I had one was at the McD's in the tunnel.
  11. We should keep the Astrodome as-is so in the future, after we're gone, it can be a giant bat cave. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POLPlbAilIw
  12. The 40% quote being used to justify an agenda is an example why everyone should read this book
  13. I don't know the exact percentage, but given the family-friendliness of the Houston area I'm certain that's a large chunk of the 40%.
  14. No doubt that includes children who are underage for driving and/or don't have a car as well as older folks who have given theirs up.
  15. Two questions:1: Do they have to put something on the ballot or can they go forward without it? 2: What's the deadline to submit something for the ballot (i.e. when might we know what the decision is)?
  16. Maybe the hotel and restaurant were owned by the same people?
  17. If you can find a way to link Walmart and rail then we might reach critical mass and atomize the servers.
  18. It'd be easier just to move it to Way Off Topic and let the fun continue unabated.
  19. It would be funny if someone checked the survey and discovered the fence was actually on the developer's property. I'm surprised, though, that the developer isn't more careful given the high level of opposition from the neighbors. It is a sure bet they'll be watching like a hawk for any mistakes.
