  1. Better to cancel the whole project than to have a station at the NW mall site? Seriously? Sounds like an argument the anti-HSR folks would make.
  2. Or it's more or less a blank slate that we can re-develop for many blocks around. It won't be a parking lot for long. To bad Dallas won't have as many new development opportunities. You guys really missed the boat on this one.
  3. Probably just an indication your battery is going bad.
  4. Transgender should be included in family, don't you think?
  5. Was at NRG Stadium this evening and noticed there's a family bathroom in between each set of men's and women's restrooms. Seems like that would be an option.
  6. Why bother when it's only 15 mins to get to downtown anyway? Houston's population center has already moved well west of downtown. I guess it must be one massive fail after another that put us at the top of a lot of national lists in the past few years.
  7. It was worth it. Yours is hands down the best place for coffee on campus or to hang out and get some work done. Hard to find a seat sometimes, though.
  8. Isn't a cocktail that knocks you off your feet better left for last? If all they have is Coors light, I'll have ice water.
  9. Yes, yes & yes. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/transportation/article/Planned-high-speed-rail-line-won-t-come-downtown-6627877.php?cmpid=btfpm
  10. NW Transit center to the Central Station on the red line is all of 16 minutes at 8am. The only solution needed here is run a shuttle back and forth or, gasp, just have some P&R buses stop at the train station. Problem solved.
  11. No doubt there will be a taxi stand. And rental cars. Plus, isn't the Northwest Transit Center about a half mile down the road? I would think there would be a shuttle.
  12. Nothing says "Welcome to Houston" like a dead mall...
  13. Think of it as an example of our pro-free enterprise philosophy. They're just small businessmen trying to make a living.
  14. It is a good thing they are extending the Hardy toll road. Glad we agree on that. Now they just need to rebuild the rest of the highways and toll roads on the Katy Freeway model and institute point to point commuter bus service along all of them.
  15. I recall a similar argument in the 2008 presidential campaign about one of the candidates not having much experience running things. Something or the other about being a "community organizer". As I recall the other candidate (who lost by the way) had much more experience.
  16. I've encountered women in the men's room twice; one was clearly drunk and confused, the other was a similar situation to the above where she needed to go and couldn't wait in the women's line. From my perspective both cases were mildly amusing at the most and really no big deal. If intent to cause disturbance is the only criteria, then wouldn't this be a non-issue (i.e. not even requiring a special ordinance)? Based on what you said above, it's already perfectly legal for a transgender man to take care of business in the women's restroom. Why not then just exclude this issue in HERO and pass the other 99%? Or is there more to it than that?
  17. And that's the million dollar question. As far as I can tell, the biggest fear (not from the ads but from women I heard discussing this) was that a straight (relatively) man could dress as a woman and enter the women's restroom freely (or worse). Then, if someone complains or calls security, could claim to be transgender. How would you know?
  18. And also why should they care if conventions or other businesses stay away due to this vote? Unless their job and income is directly tied to it, or they are going to attend it, conventions and events are at best just something that is happening around town and at worst a big hassle injected into the daily routine. For instance, If you're a worker bee at an oil company and aren't a basketball fan then the final four is just a pain in the rear. Folks like that who vote aren't really going to care much about the supposed backlash, which personally I suspect is more posturing (or posing) than anything else. We'll see, though, if these big events put their money where their mouths are or if they're just playing PC lip service.
  19. Ignorance wins most elections. That's the key to a successful political career.
  20. There are jobs and priorities to attend to in even-year elections, too. Plus there's always early voting. Let's just call it what it is...apathy.
  21. All this says is that we're a little freaked out by the prospect of men in women's restrooms. And how bone-headed the political leadership around this was to not see this coming. Now that they got a good caning on this, it'll be back in a different form and get passed and we'll move on.
