  1. I think it's kinda gutsy to play Abba on a space shuttle. The door out isn't that far from arm's reach...
  2. The Astrodome will alwayz be the "House Of Pain". I wanna see Reliant Stadium become "The Nutcracker Suite". Pop 'em like a Pringle. Drop 'em like a Lawsuit. Hit 'em as if Simpson were Aquitted. Werd!
  3. Good point, mate. I take it that you don't see that as much (half-acre lots) in Houston because of the cost of that lot?
  4. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4397260.html Taveras alone was worth both Jennings and Miguel Ascencio.
  5. Speaking of McMansions, I wish there were more backyard space for higher-priced homes. I looked through Royal Oaks a couple weeks ago out of curiousity of what a million dollars buys in a Houston gated community, and even though the homes themselves were fairly big, the backyard was small as hell, with nothing to offer but the view of a golf course and other people's backyards. Are backyards a turn-off these days in the market?
  6. Houston is such a one-person one-car minded city. Not sure what would chang that mindset now. Our city leaders probably aren't sure yet either. They wouldn't want to spend millions of dollars on a subway that they weren't sure could be used. Can't blame them.
  7. All I'm saying is this: What Gore said about the environment is something I can understand to be debated on this forum. But what Gore said about the internet is about as useless on this thread as what other politicians or presidents said about anything that has nothing to do with environmental policies.
  8. Ain't nothing wrong with the name Texas Rangers. They're in Texas. Dallas Cowboys, I agre though. Arlington, Texas, or DFW Cowboys would be more politically correct. But Jones needs money to build the stadium, and the only way to do that is to cater to the largest city to that area...Dallas. We all know who they really play for though. Man Law!
  9. "Creating the internet" is a lot safer to me than flying onto a battleship and saying "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed..." with a giant banner in the background that said "Mission Accomplished", when more U.S. troops and civilians have died there since that speech, the Secretary of Defense decides to resign, and as he's leaving, says "In my view it is time for a major adjustment. Clearly, what U.S. forces are currently doing in Iraq is not working well enough or fast enough." (I'm just saying that because what Gore said back then is no big deal.) Speaking of Gore, I haven't his movie yet. To anyone that has, was it a breakdown or an overview? I still find the Iraqi Information Minister's website more entertaining than Bush OR Gore's >
  10. Don't you think President Shakira would make us watch the White House more often?
  11. To me, Bush is a better reference point than this guy... (For a complete transcript, here's a link > ) http://www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com/
  12. So what exactly do we do in 2040 if what the scientists said were correct? Would we then start listening to the scientists who start predicting 2080?
  13. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4395210.html Man, the Chronicle has been coming down HARD on Carr from the Titans game. Like I said before though, Carr played a good game, and didn't in anyway contribute to the loss. He did his job, and that's all Kubiak could ask for. That being said, I can't remember the last time I've ever heard the word "hopeless" to describe a local team in an article on any Texas sport. Not even when the Texans went 2-14 last season, because Bush and Young could have been drafted. What Young did against the Texans in overtime was no fluke. He did that same thing throughout his championship season in Texas. Regardless of what anyone says, regardless of who he plays for, because of what he helped do with the Longhorns, Vince Young already is a Texas sports legend. No question. Now people need to stop blaming Carr, and start deciding how to return morale to the Texans. Changing the QB won't do it, because the chance to draft Young has come and gone. I think Carr and Williams still have potential, though we're all tired of the word "potential", and want to hear "legendary". Their line still needs help, but they will get better. For the Texans to get respect back, here's what I think they should focus on for next season... 1) Absolute first thing: Build a hard-hitting defense. Hardest-hitting in the NFL. I mean "House Of Pain" hitting. It doesn't matter if the other team gets past the players, but if they get hit, they know they's gettin' ffuuuuuuccccdddd up. Hitting so hard, offenses around the league mark the Texans' name on their calendars as a day they know someone's going home with a sore back. Make teams regret playing you. Perhaps the first position would be the DL to add with Williams. 2) Step two: NOW worry about the OL. Yea, Carr would suffer a little longer because the OL wasn't the main focus yet, but remember, the other team's offense would regret coming on the field. Perhaps they would want the Texans to have more time with the ball because they needed more time to recover and do something. Just enough time for Carr to perhaps try to pull a Vince Young and do something with nothing. But yea, strengthen the OL as much as possible 3) Get the BEST PLAYER IN THE DRAFT. In other words, the highest prospect. In other words, the one that has the highest CONSISTANT results. We have Williams, "Mr. Potential", now lets get someone on the team you know will make an IMMEDIATE impact. 4) If Carr has another Raiders' type game with a proven strong OL, change out Carr at that time. Until then, Not many QBs other than guys like Young can do anything with a low-ranking OL. They need much better run protection. They're getting better, but they're not there yet. 5) When they start winning, the fans will come back. In fact, I think Texans fans will have their heads up high again when they're capable of beating the Colts and Titans twice in one year. For that to happen...um...we have to beat them once first.
  14. I am curious about the new OS, and I'm also holding off on buying a new laptop until February. I am curious what have Vista on a laptop/PC already installed will do to the price of the new hardware. I'd wait until after I learned more about Vista before I considered upgrading my current PCs though. If there's little difference, there's no point in changing Windows XP. My advice to you CityKid is to hold off on buying a new laptop until you research a little more on Vista and know exactly what it entails, then after that, decide what U wanna do...
  15. SOME ice in the Arctic? I feel better now. The day I can skinny-dip in the North Pole and come out with my d*ck intacted is just about as much of a benefit as I will be able to get as an American. Canada, Greenland, and Russia will have more warmer land to shoot P. Diddy videos with bikini-clad women in 'em. Perhaps no longer worry about cold weather in Moscow, and ferment wine in Vancouver and Toronto. Yeah, benefits to come. I will say this though. If Titanic were built in 2040 instead, it'd probably be sailing in 2041. Or maybe sink after getting hit by a passing palm tree randomly in the water. Whichever you prefer... I still respect the scientist's opinion more than any regular person. The fact that a professional claims these could be posibilities after creating models based on the earth's trends in ozone loss, plus the amount of air polution man creates, should raise a red flag right there.
  16. I agree with Moonman for that very reason. Also, cities like Woodlands, Katy, and Sugarland thrive off of higher-income residents wanting to move there because they get more space for their price, and quality of life and style of arcihtecture look new and modern. Houston gets hurt as a result of the population decrease and as a result of that, a decrease in tax revenue. With McMansions, Houston can compete with that market. Hopefully, neighborhoods in Houston will eventually be able to be totally revitalized to the point where they look better than First Colony/Woodlands-type neighborhoods. This modest home thing may work for the next 5-10 years, but come 20 years, a lot of those neighborhoods could become rundown because of low maintainance, lack of modernization, and lack of interest of the homes except to sell with homes that the buyer does something to it. To me, I'd rather buy a new big home than a "modest", 30-year old home at the same price. But McMansions themself aren't shallow at all. What IS shallow to me are the neighborhoods that have built houses where each house looks the same as the house beside it. THAT'S a lack of developmental character. The size itself, cool, but make each home unique to whoever's gonna buy it.
  17. Cool! I'm a Texan, so I love everything big. In the coming years, I wanna buy a big-ass home. It'd be nice if I didn't have to move out of Houston to have a house that's exubberating fantasticisms Alright, maybe those last two words were too "So You Think You Can Dance'ish", but yea, I love homes the size of the ones like Memorial, River Oaks, and Sugar Creek. It's nice to see neighborhoods in Houston regain property value by rebuilding on land that otherwise was only high in appraisal because of location... I think Houstonians should be allowed to have choices within Houston. 3500 sq ft. is just the starting point for many of us in the Gen-X. I know quite a few single people looking for 4500+. If you don't like that size, you don't have to buy, but what is annoying about someone else wanting mad living space for themselves?
  18. Didn't Miss Cleo have a mustache in that skit? In fact, didn't she have a mustache in real life, too?
  19. I don't think it ever got to that point. But I do think initially the Cowboys were looking at the possibility of building in Dallas, but the Dallas mayor didn't want to have to put all that tax money in because he knew it would be expensive. At that time though, they looked at all options including this current Arlington one, and decided Arlington would work because it still catered to two major cities. I think one posibility looked at was the Cotton Bowl site.
  20. I think so, yea. It's just a parking lot right now.
