  1. I agree with you, but where will the current looters in New Orleans be shipped to?
  2. I don't think 25,000 in a dome a good answer if we're talking about them staying there for over 5 days. It may end up becoming deplorable of a place for the refugees if they don't get what they need. I think if they stay in Houston for a longer period of time, we should look into spreading them out to four, possibly five temporary locations.
  3. Can you imagine the Rodeo doing something in the new Dome-Hotel to corrdinate with the events in Reliant Stadium?! I think Reliant Park would be an ultimate convention powerhouse. There's nothing the Park couldn't offer. Do you really think the county will push for an Astroworld improvement if this plan goes through? I'm also curious if the County or City of Houston would ever put in money for a revitalization of the area around Reliant like they're doing downtown or Uptown, 'cause if they really do go through with this plan, that area will desperately need it. Desperately. Astroworld, Old Spanish Trail, Kirby Road, the strip centers, the whole shibangabang. Personally, I think they should push for a Midtown-type urban development located by Reliant Park on the same side as the Radison Hotel and Texans Practice facility.
  4. by the way, here's a rendering of the NEW Astrodome Hotel... http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...politan/3315636
  5. YES!!! This actually may work! And it doesn't have to become another KingDome either!! We actually have 1,200 hotel room IN the Reliant Complex!! Should be a HUGE plus for Reliant Center and Reliant Arena! If they ever do redevlop Astroworld, I think AstroHotel could be a boom waiting to happen (but it won't help them if Astroworld stays in it's current condition.) Finally, Bob McNair has talked about possibly selling the land where the Texans hold practice. Wouldn't it be cool if the new MLS stadium were located there instead of the East End? It'd be the ULTIMATE Convention Complex!
  6. Agree too. Don't think they'll make a decision b4 my birthday But if it were temporarily a soccer place, wouldn't that just lose money? Why not just make it permanent? I think a convention hotel is the best idea for this instance. If Harris County pushes Six Flags to remodel Astroworld completely and make it would-class, AND if they push to revitalize the area AROUND Reliant Park, it could be a cash cow for everyone.
  7. For the record, I think if they do decide to turn the Dome into a soccer stadium temporarily, it will be a waste of money and time for Houston. Either make it a hotel now, or make it a permenant soccer stadium.
  8. I wonder why they didn't just build two courts (one covered, and the one currently there.)
  9. Now you KNOW this church opening is different when you see that there are special HOTEL rates to accomodate http://www.lakewood.cc/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=5249
  10. I wonder what the former concourses, suites, and food areas look like now. Think they still got a restaurant in there somewhere?
  11. Just to confirm: There ARE two waterfalls on both sides of the pulpit, and there's also three giant videoscreens
  12. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/page1/3262130# Check out the 4th picture in the photo gallery. Never thought I'd EVER see a structure like this in Houston
  13. You know, Richmond Strip partly became a popular street because of it being a great place to party aftre Rocket Games. You think maybe the Lakewood Church patrons will bring more vibrance to the Galleria Area? Also, if anyone has pics of the new building from inside, hook us up :-) Congratulations, Lakewood!
  14. C/mon Oliver Luck, STOP THINKING TEMPORARY!!!! THINK OF A YEAR-AROUND BUILDING MASTERPIECE!!! Soccer Stadium, AND hotel, convention center, and retail resturant entertainment center. It'd be the most famous soccer stadium in the US, AND the Reliant Complex would become one of the most famous convention complexes in the WORLD!! We're sitting on a goldmine, and I'm not sure why ANY Houstonian would want us to just be like everyone else in the country and get a high-school stadium for a professional team. By the way, don't forget about America's current most famous spccer-specific venue. Home Depot Stadium in Carson, California. Do U see any high-school around it?
  15. I guess Houston Chronicle agrees that the party was a success http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/h...eatures/3237223
  16. To reinerate this point, I think the Reliant Complex is a great convention friendly place, but with the Astrodome remodeled this way, we could turn it into possibly one of, if not the BEST convention complex in the world.
  17. Also the Soccer field could be converted into a football field for high school playoff games.
  18. World class Soccer/Track & Field Stadium, Luxury Hotel, and Entertainment center ALL rolled into one to accomodate the other buildings/stadiums in the Reliant Area.
  19. I wonder why they couldn't develop an entertainment enpansion that directly worked with the Buffalo Bayou Redevelopment Project
  20. Oye, first off, I gotta send my respect to Casual Observer. Even though we may not agree on everything, your opinions are totally valid and cool, yo! There's no fight here, just difference of opinion. To dispute your claim that P. Diddy is not an A-List celeb, think of how many people in the music industry have had as much success as he has. Not many. Also, I disagree that this party had 0% effect on Houston. That will only be true if there aren't anymore high-profile parties in the city we all love. Only time will tell if this party was a one time thing or not. If you honestly want to hear my response to any of the other statements from earlier, let me know. I'm just trying not to take up too much space on this forum. Finally, let's see more parties from all genres of music and culture in H-Town
  21. No, the difference between the NRA and P.Diddy is that the NRA glamorizes guns, while P.Diddy was found NOT GUILTY for the shooting incident in 2000. It's not very cool to stereotype hip-hop like that. You can say the same thing about music targeting teenagers negatively in EVERY genre of music. A lot of people in the hip-hop industry (just like P.Diddy) actually grew up in these tough neighborhoods and fatherless homes you seem to hate. And of course, the basketball players and rappers actually DID get successful off of Basketball and Rapping! If life were perfect, and none of these guys went to prison or lived out these harsh lifes of violence or whatever they did, they'd have nothing to rap about. Did U really expect them to WANT to stay in those 'hoods when they had a chance to make money off their past troubles and move out? And I wouldn't limit drug use to only hip-hop, yo. I hope more parties like this from all genres of music happen in H-Town
  22. So, like, I've NEVER heard of a gun-owner in Houston dude, It's a sweet event! It's nice to finally see Houston start to get on the map as a posh place for these posh events. I wanna see MANY more of these types of parties in H-Town (you know, hosted by a big name celeb, get put up on Access Hollywood, put us on the A-list with Vegas, L.A. New York, and Miami eventually) These types of big-name parties on a regular basis are what could change the negative reputation of Houston to the rest of the country into a positive one, ESPECIALLY since it's away from the Super Bowl time period. I'm hoping to see MANY more of these from the hip-hop community, as well as those in rock, country, pop, international business dudes (like that Donald Trump dude) and many others. Respect to P. Diddy for at least helping our city out with it's trying-to-break-out nightlife and knowing a great potential city when he sees one!
  23. HELL NAH!! H-Town by blood, not relation!!! Got my yo yo's from Toy-R-Us, but I got my oye oye oye's from, ....um..., that one seafood restaurant over there by Kemah Boardwalk. RECOGNIZE!! Mad wicked props to da Citykid for the valid point. Hunt IS from San Antonio! By the way, I need to answer a question that I've been getting for the past few weeks about my thinking on soccer making it big in America. As U may know, I've currently living in Korea. Two nights ago, the Korea national team played Kuwait in, um, Kuwait. Due to the time difference, the game was shown live here in Korea around 3am in the morning. Guess what? Thousands of people still partied together as if the Rocket won the world championship all over again. Now, believe it or not, even though soccer's fairly big here and all over the rest of the world, it has nothing to do with the game itself. It has to do with pride over their country. The ONLY way to prove you're the greatest country in the world (according to the rest of the world) is to win the World Cup. Though I think we live in a GREAT nation, the way to prove it is to show that we love our national team. It's one thing to claim to be patriotic and have a flag waving outside your house, or to say you love America. It's another thing to actually SHOW it and watch the National Soccer team play, cheer them on, and party your ass off when they win (which our team has been doing a lot of recently). I think media coverage of the National team is a joke for now, but it can change. I rarely ever even hear it mentioned on the local news or the Today Show, or GMA, or anything when they win OR lose. Compare that to the coverage the Rockets had in Houston when we won those championships in 1994 and '95. The EXACT same amount of coverage is what the other countries of the world have for their national teams for QUALIFYING matches! And the World Cup ain't 'till NEXT year. So in the meantime, I would like to ask EVERYONE on this thread to not worry aboot the media, about the popular thing to do, or even about making soccer popular. I'd like to ask that everyone here make an effort to have patriotism for the USA and show it the proper way...cheer of the U.S. team that we have no other, and party TEXAS style when we win! Even in a bar or something. Oye, and I WILL be in Germany next year cheering for da US, yo
