  1. Downtown Houston ... RISE ....... Texas' biggest city .... movin along.....
  2. Downtown . . . . . up & coming. Yeah,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dat's us OK... have to clean out pool, get the frickin' pollen out and get right chemical balance .... but will enjoy over the 6 mos. summer we have. However. always things to do.
  3. Actually, I remember when gambling hit Louisiana. The casinos keep the Shreveport-Bossier area quite busy. They provide jobs that wouldn't otherwise be there, and Texans, particularly Metroplexers, stay in the hotels and dine in their restaurants. Video poker is throughout Louisiana providing the same. Yes, there are people who are "gambleholics" but you can't do anything about that. There are people like me who enjoy playing every now and again ... not using my rent money so to speak, but putting a couple of hundred bucks in my wallet and spending it on gambling entertainment. I don't thinking gambling in Texas would be nearly the horrible picture that is being painted. But, of course, everything comes with a price.
  4. Unfortunately, racism is a two-edged sword: cuts both ways. HUMANS LISTEN.... let's get along... dammit!
  5. ummm... first downtown upscale or any scale bowling (almost spelled that blowing ... ) ... ahem.... let's get back to da stuff. Houston Pavilions is going to be bigger by scale and I think by volume than Denver Pavilions. Go check out how well that DP is doing, and picture Houston doing it bigger and better. At any rate, Discovery Park, Discovery Green (new office tower and I feel I had to restate this) and One Park Tower going up very soon, excluding Houston Pavilions and a host of other new highrise skyscrapers, I would say (like the New York Times indicated), can we mention "BOOM" again in Houston? Of course, our biggies said "Let's don't go there ..." grinning and Houston Proud. Also, Bayou Place is rocking! Don't believe me??? Been there, done that.
  6. Obviously this writer doesn't know that Uptown Houston has at least 5 highrise residential buildings on the drawing board, nor does the writer know that where Allen House stands will be an urban mixed-used development, nor does he know BLVD Place and yada yada .... does he even know anything about Galveston's highrises or the ones on Clear Lake or the Bay? Basically, he pays attention to downtown, but Houston is way to large to be focusing on one segment, clearly probably the most important (downtown), but perhaps dude needs to read HAIF more often.
  7. Dubai is HOT and our law firm is going to open an office there in the near future. Halliburton will still maintain a HUGE presence in Houston and it needs Houston more than Houston needs Halliburton. The Enron failure paints a picture of Houston: we will move on and this city will progress. Nuff said.
  8. I haven't been in a while, but that will change immediately! We Houstonians are so lucky to have Galveston and the Bay Area. Can't wait to get back down there.
  9. You can't judge a book by its cover. Shouldn't we wait until after it is built to critique? That would be fair. P.S. If you owned one of the Penthouses and had the view from there, well, you're probably not on HAIF anyhow.
  10. Let's give Uptown a year or two. Developments on the horizon promise to be pretty impressive. Don't give up on Downtown either as half a dozen projects are on the drawing boards. Remember, Houston's skyline is impressive now. What it will be like in five years remain to be seen.
  11. I moved to Houston in 1972. I have never regretted that move. I lived in SF for a few months in 1980, but couldn't wait to get back to Houston. It's my town. It isn't for everyone, but definitely for houstonfella. Ummm... the last four weeks of spring (Feb/Mar 2007) have been heaven. Yeah, hell is not in the too distant future, but A/C and lots of it keeps H-town kool. Peace.
  12. I agree with you on this one. Yeah, we lost a Fortune 500 company, but did we? Nah. Stay tuned. Check your next fill up your car bill. Houston can't be too far away from securing another energy giant. >
  13. You bet. And people who travel to our offices worldwide love Pennzoil... it is quite unique. Besides, it is cool.
  14. A world exists outside Houston? Hurry with the poppers, I am going to faint. Houston has long had a bad rep but getting so much better. If not, then people not interested in H-Town can totally move to Corsicana.
  15. Interesting H-town... thanks for your input. I am always amazed at the ramifications as opposed to the buildings that might pop up. Looking forward to a Texas tall tower in the future. Of course, 40 story buildings here are ho hum. Let's see 82+ ... yeah
  16. Ouch! I do remember the downturn where banks folded in supposedly RICH Texas. Red, you are a wealth of knowledge about these things. I should never argue with you, but appreciate your honesty and integrity. I am happy Comerica is coming to Texas, particuarly Dallas and hopefully downtown Dallas. Houston already has so many big co's that it would be fairly small potatoes here. Anywho..... did you get my account set up Red???
  17. But on a sweeter note ... BLVD Place and Houston Pavilions are both happening in Houston. Uptown & Downtown. That's not to mention the dozen(s) of other cool urban villages that are on the drawing board. We can't lose.
  18. Does Sioux Falls offer tax incentives like Delaware? Maybe that could answer that question. Red, do a lot of surfing re: banks? Got that much money? Maybe you can open me an account at Comerica.
  19. Georgia's one big metro: Atlanta nice and growing. Texas has about a zillion metropolitans areas nice and growing. Is there a point to be made here?
  20. Puma: we have the most Fortune 500 companies outside of NY. So I wouldn't fret about that situation. Besides, haven't you noticed the oil companies raking in the dough. I guess I come up with the crap because Dallas is the banking capital of the Southwest, and the Federal Reserve Bank for this area is there. That must be attractive to banks ... ummm ... like Houston is the Energy Capital of the entire freakin' world. But, no, Dallas isn't the banking capital of anything except perhaps Texas, but it is a money maker for Big D. Happy now? This is for Red, not boi
  21. Good for us that new companies are moving into the state. Bad for the states losing them. But ... life moves right along.
  22. I have learned that people who move here from Dallas are so glad to get away that they would sell their first born child. It is totally a snobby and clickish small town.
  23. Shouldn't this have it's own thread somewhere,or are you playing the "Sooooo....We have one Too" game? Well, Houston is known for its huge amount of Fortune 500 companies. So if we get one more, it is a blip on the radar screen.
  24. This may be tired and whatever... but I found Houston to be an oasis for me. First, jobwise, had no problem making money here; second, I liked the beach, bay and fresh water lakes that Houston has within an hour of your location. Third, 90+ languages are spoken here making this a diverse and cool place to live. Yeah, we are flat and humid in the summer, but winters are totally EZ. Houston is great. I'll die here or move back home to North Louisiana where it is cold in the winter and I hate that. Let us love Houston for what it is: a great, great big Texas city.
