  1. Downtown reminds me of the 80's. You will see lines of construction workers now in the shops and deli's. I haven't seen this much activity since the "boom" times. Add to all this a couple of new office towers and downtown is boom revisited.
  2. I am optimistic that 2727 will happen. But when some entity spends money to excavate, put up a crane etc., don't they lose that money with nothing to show. Kind of like Las Vegas most of the time?
  3. Ummm... to get back on the CBD being poised for a building boom, more good news for this topic. From HBJ: "My survey of the downtown market indicated to me that space in Class A buildings is so tight that if you found yourself out of room and needing room to grow ... you could find yourself in trouble without many options," Tudor says. 4. Great pics. Thanks. The Raven Tower always is a trip. What could he have been thinking? But, what a view!
  5. I see the pictures and it is so cool looking. Then I think ... skiing in Dallas-FW in June July Aug. Sept. It would be a cool thing, though. I hope it happens.
  6. Cool. Coming in the Baytown East Fwy exiting to 45 South is a great view of TMC, Huntingdon, Greenway and Uptown. This will be a beauty.
  7. I think what DT's buildings need are more towers that take an interest in lighting up at night. Wells Fargo, Esperson, Reliant, Continental and Chevron are examples. Houston could be more beautiful at night.
  8. Be careful, this board is full of NYC lovers. I could care less about NYC because been there done that. but.... some people here just love that New York living... NOT me. I love H-town!
  9. LA's skyline ain't all that .... Houston's better. Chi-town is bigger and all, but H-town is on the move. Give us 20 yrs. Florida is making room for more grandma's and grandpa's .... good luck during hurricane season ....
  10. That would be GREAT for the area of downtown where I work. WOW .... eat your heart out other cities if this one happens in downtown H-town.
  11. Great work with the pics. Hermann Park is beautiful ... makes me want to leave work and go down there. It is amazing how many residential highrises have been built and, with Mosaic rising, it will be even more residential along the park.
  12. If you look at Chevron's two towers, you will find remarkable architecture that is neither cheap nor cheesey. Its circular skywalk adds to the beauty of the world class buildings. So, I wouldn't say that our skyline looks cheap. In fact, it is downright spectacular. In fact, a group of British tourists (read Hoffman's column in the Chron) were impressed with how green Houston is and the downtown skyline. I do believe we will see some very nice work in the next few years.
  13. Yeah, at least we know this one is on its way. About the balconies - I lived at the Houston House in 1983. I loved the balconies. Great getting out there in the afternoons, whenever. Lots of times I'd leave the sliding glass doors open and you wouldn't believe it, but at 23 floors, no mosquitoes. To me a balcony is about highrise living.
  14. Dubai is hot right now. Not only does Halliburton want its presence there, so do a lot of firms. The firm I work for is planning a Dubai office. No, we're lot leaving Houston's Headquarters, just getting a piece of the action like the rest of corporate America does.
  15. Does HAIF have any recollection of a steak house way down South Main (Highway 90) called Elliott's Steak House located at 10200 Main St. I'm searching for any postcards, matchbooks, or photos of the building. Thanks in advance!
  16. One Park Tower ... nothing really to say other than it is a cool project that will happen downtown. Umm.. balconies, etc., please... let's be thankful we are getting another highrise downtown. Maybe I'll sell my home (NOT) and move down there. But at any rate, isn't this a great project for downtown? I think so.
  17. I don't do park 'n ride, but don't we have a great P&R system in H-town? I talk with the folks at work who swear by it ... 20 minutes from Sugar Land or Katy or Woodlands (30 I think) but all in all .... it works. The bus may emit foul air, but if one breaks down, another can easily replace. Once your train is broken, it isn't that easy (I remember my months in SF). Anyhow, Houston isn't totally in the dark ages. We are slower with rail, but faster with HOV.
  18. U.S. Cities Traffic Problems Houston ranks 5th worst in traffic congestion and we have only 7.5 miles of rail. DFW ranks 6th and boasts of 45 miles or so of rail. We all know SF, DC and Atlanta have great rail systems (especially SF with its MUNI, BART and Cable cars). But unless we build a sophisticated underground subway system like NY, we'll probably not move up in the ranks by building a few light rail lines. Not that I am against rail, I think it has its place. Interestingly enough, here are the worst cities for traffic congestion: 1. Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Ana, Calif. 2. San Francisco, Oakland, Calif. 3. Washington, D.C. 4. Atlanta 5. Houston 6. Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Tex. 7. Chicago.
  19. yeah, we heard that from Houston Pavilions.... STOP people.... STOP..... If it doesn't happen, a hundred others will. 'B Cool'
  20. Kincaid: u r right. Houston is over 2.2 mil folks with so much land and opportunity..... I agree on your post. Betcha lots of folks will agree as well WE ARE HOUSTON ...... no going back.
  21. That does it. I'm moving to Savannah. Let's keep the Dallas vs. Houston competition going. I love it. Because, when all is said and done, and the stats are in in every category .... guess who's yo daddy? It ain't Dallas. P.S. Texas is fortunate to have three or four huge metro areas that can kick other states' metro areas right out of the water. But Houston is on the water. We do have that on Dallas. Other than that, the cities are awesome mean metro machines.
  22. MexAmerMoose: good to hear from ya. You have been quiet for a bit, or I missed some of your cool posts. But this Houston CBD poised for building boom sounds nice ... doncha think HAIFers??? Yeah, real nice.
  23. ricco ... I love your posts. This one made me laugh today and that was hard to do considering my back/leg ache. Anyhow, congrats and keep those posts coming. I enjoy a care-free type of poster who also has serious posts as well. Flight of the queens...
  24. WAIT: Texas has several metro areas that are rocking' and rolling'... GA has one - Atlanta. whoohee. Texas has Houston, Dallas, Austin/SA and all that that implies. GA: be happy with your 1 metroplex-ette...TX is rockin' with many,,,,,,,,,,,, Aus Sa HOU DFW 3rd Coast... and all.......
