  1. DJV: Soccer is not THE sport in the United States of America. Now you know what THE sport is this country is. THE NFL!
  2. From rumblings over at the old Enron place, since mighty Chevron has taken 50 floors of the once powerful Enron empire, a 1,000,000 sq. ft. building is in the pipeline. I just hope it is architecturally significant (I am sure it will be tall enough), but I don't want a box.
  3. I meant for me "I'm not going to worry about it." Just a phrase. Certainly not mentioned for your post. I'm sorry about how I worded my post. I meant, I wish it would have been built in another block somewhere downtown, but I can't worry about that now because it is done. It isn't ugly. And, yes, troyboy, you are definitely important to the forum with your comments and thoughts.
  4. Houston Facts Houston Pavilions Link Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States
  5. From HP website: A central courtyard and people-friendly streetscapes will allow for alfresco dining and window-shopping. The entire second floor of the development will be connected through walkways spanning Fannin St. and San Jacinto St.
  6. It is now up to the Texans to play at the level we played whipping the Jags. Of course, the Texans have always played the Jags tough. The two teams match up well for whatever reasons. Our Texans need to go out and prove they are tough enough to win a road game to a 1-5 team - Bud's bunch. Come on, David, show those Longhorn fans that we didn't need to draft Vince Young. I know you can git r dun.
  7. Yeah, the administrative staff that comes in from New York to get trained at Houston's headquarters stay at the Magnolia. The girls rave about those nice bathrooms over there. Coming from New York (you know how big those bathrooms up there are or shall I say how small), it is no wonder they love the Magnolia.
  8. This is one festival that Houston will NOT miss. Good riddance. I already posted in a thread earlier in the year that I didn't want that one. New Orleans is a good place for the "Essence" festival. >
  9. I found a link (way before Houston's mega leasing started) on page 3 (I think) of the pdf file attached. This is the most current leasing activity I could find. Houston's downtown was 19% - of course - before a 50-story building was leased out in a snap. We need some newer figures. Because when a company begins to plan new 1,000,000 towers, significant gains must have been met somewhere to give us that privilege. Here is the link that I found that is up-to-date (almost): Houston Vacancy The pdf file will give you more numbers than you might want to crunch.
  10. Naturally, that is one of the issues I raised on another thread. Who will grab those listless properties? But we have those in downtown Houston as well. I think lady luck will play her hand and we'll wait and see. I do think Houston and Dallas are two sunbelt cities that are prospering. It would be hard to say which has reaped the most rewards. However, I can say, "Dallas and Houston are duking it out" and that's the Texas way.
  11. Actually, the vacancy rates for Houston is not nearly that high. Here is the last article I read that describes the current Houston market. Houston Office Market
  12. Houston1st - you rock. Don't know where you get your info, but if I need to call a consulate, I can.
  13. That is a beautiful old hotel. I had no idea Mineral Wells had a gem like the Baker. Thanks for the photos and information.
  14. While dining at Charley's 517 today, the table next to me was mostly Scottish and U.K. folks. Last week, it was a Capetown, South African contingent. There is always an international table somewhere at lunch at Charley's. This reminded me to check to see how many foreign consulates we have in Houston. 83 was the number I found. Houston is Texas' most international city, and one of the most international cities in the world. Perhaps it is the energy sector that brings the most to the table, but Houston's diversity is the magnet that attracts thousands of people every year to this semi-tropical mega-city. A co-worker informed me that there are over 90 languages spoken in Houston. I can only speak one: Texan.
  15. I remember Atlanta (visited there many years ago) having lots of trees. Fortunately, Atlanta is looking out for its trees of which environmentalists say we have to have. Difference in Houston and Atlanta, while they may have more trees, our humidity does provide us with gorgeous tropical plants that thrive. I want our trees to stay! Dammit!
  16. Tell me, what is the name of the new bar? Whiskey Bar - out. New bar - _______.
  17. I suppose I am missing out on something, but working M-F keeps me out of the loop; and on my days off, TV (particularly morning tele) won't cut it. I won't rush to turn on this program from my fella HAIFers' opinions.
  18. I am so with you all on this subject. The East Belt is a freeway running through a forest. Except one small thing: the forest is being cut down and replaced with shopping centers, houses and stuff. I am already missing the trees that grew so tall and majestic. I don't think there is an answer. It is all about money and I guess that's the bottom line. Houston's trees, jungle-like, can't be replaced.
  19. A couple of weeks ago, a New Yorker was down at our big Houston headquarters for training. I sent her to The Galleria to shop before she took her rich ass off to W. Palm Beach, Fla. I received an email from her on the Monday after training and she stated that "You were right. It is expensive there. But, it is too big. I couldn't find a nail salon."
  20. I don't know about Texans fans in Dallas, but my two friends who went to the game in Dallas said there were impressed with lots and lots of Texans fans there. Of course the Chronicle printed the number of season ticket holders from Houston to Dallas. The Texans sold over 60,000 season tickets. The Cowboys have never had that kind of season ticket fan base. Interesting ... Cowboys would not provide a breakdown of their season ticket holders. That one doesn't make much sense. Anyhow, they had 63,000+ for Monday night football. Texans always get 70,000+
  21. So is Texaco not in there (Heritage) any more? I have a friend who worked there, but i haven't heard from him in a while. Guess I need to give him a call.
  22. Actually, you guys are right. I found a link that is very positive regarding Dallas office vacancy. It isn't as bad as it looks on paper. In fact, this article shows significant improvement in the Dallas market with over 4 million sq. ft. going up. I'll provide you with that link: Dallas Construction
  23. It must be hard to choose between Grapevine and Lewisville.
