  1. at least we'd have sumpin' in common. But, as it stands, like I try to post (but get all twisted sometimes), Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio: hey, we gotta pull together sistahs!!! Because people in NY and CA don't give a rat's ass what happens down here. They have us labeled as rednecks with shotguns in the car. Actually, I only carry two pistols. Not!!!!!! We Texans really need to be a more closely, united group and not divisive. To be honest, I haven't taken a cruise from the Port of Houston yet. That's my next "thang."
  2. All 10 floors? Woooo Hoooo .... Do we have one that short in Houston? Jus' kiddin' boi ... just kiddin'. Jones Day is a great firm. I work for a law firm, too; we are in a skyscraper in downtown Houston and have over 200 attorneys in the Houston office, so you know sometimes why I stress out. > By the way, our Dallas office recently moved to Fountain Place. They did a great job with the Dallas office. It is really, really nice now. Fountain Place is gorgeous. I remember, there's a restaurant where you are slightly below the fountains. We were seated at the window and watched the dancing waters. Don't remember the name, but it was pretty cool. You probably know.
  3. Speaking of skylines. Houston's skylines: Houston CBD Uptown Houston Greenway Plaza Texas Med Ctr Greenspoint Allen Parkway Did I miss one? Downtown's tallest building 75 stories; Uptown's 64 stories. The rest, I am not sure, but each skyline has a collection of skyscrapers. The 30-story Memorial Hermann Tower in TMC and twin Mosaic Towers under construction at Hermann Park are definitely going to change the skyline in that area tremendously. Memorial Hermann is about topped out it appears.
  4. Port of Houston Here's what our port has going on right now.
  5. Don't forget ... I was the first one on the board to say the new Dallas Performing Arts Center was going to be a beauty as well. So make that two things we've agreed on.
  6. I think the grove of trees is a cool addition. Yeah, the flat top buildings seem to have taken over rather than an inspiring crown of sorts. But all in all I think it is a beautiful new building.
  7. Yeah, with their profits, they can just fly the execs between Dallas and Houston .... expenses no prob. But I paid 1.93 cents a gallon today.
  8. Oh my God! That doesn't even include our contiguous metropolitan areas. Am I surprised? Hell, no. I noticed the Uptown Skyline from my downtown office this morning and that 64-story tower that tells everyone that Houston's Uptown is really another downtown was majestic with a low cloud layer and the tower losing visibility into the clouds. By the way, the Water Wall below is one of the most inspiring things America's fourth largest city has to offer. Oooooo..... here we go again I think we can brag about our own city on our own board if we want too.
  9. Which cruise lines will build the first terminals in the Port of Dallas?
  10. That first picture, wasn't that at one time the Farmhouse? Or a popular gay club with swimming pool in that era? It looks very familiar. By the way, you rock with that camera, dude.
  11. You are right ... right behind Longhorn and Charlies 517. But, actually, I forgot what was there before? I remember some building being demolished to make way for Calpine. It escapes me what that building was. Do you remember?
  12. So, top ten .... five or half (50%) in Houston? Someone will get argumentative on this one.
  13. And underground parking is #1 on the priority list. I hate those above ground or surface lots. We're taking a bite out of this stuff.
  14. It will be a plus in Bayou Place. Verizon is there and concerts go on all the time. Hard Rock is anchored in Bayou Place. Then we will have Rocbar. If it is as cool as we assume it will be, those 30+ people will be rocking and rolling. Lots of construction on this project. I love Hard Rock's Haystack Salad, so I go there often for lunch. Also, it's great to get away from work and have a rockin' lunch as well. Plus, the house Chardonnay is great.
  15. Kemah-Clear Lake. I love the water. This area is home to the nation's third largest marina district. The laid back life. The view. The sailboats. The Bay.
  16. We won't claim Austin but it is nice to be that close
  17. Thanks Jason. You are the only one making sense of all this "we be big" "You be big" stuff." We all are what we are and that's all we can be. I love Texas. I'd move to Dallas in a heart-beat if I got the right offer. Although my heart tells me Houston's my love. And Tierwester, thanks!!!! I think you recognize my allegiance.
  18. I did not realize how many large oaks there were in that part of town. Great news that they are keeping them. Even greater, the park is getting built with underground parking.
  19. And you guys are right. Too up close and personal. Who gives a f*** which Texas city is the best. Because we ALL are.
  20. In fact, I passed by the Cathedral today and it was starting to look very nice. Thanks Niche for the reminder on this block. Slowly but surely.
  21. Still uncomfortable Tophy? With HP taking up three blocks, the new park approx. 7 or so blocks and the new 37 story One Park Center taking up a block, we are seeing over 10 blocks of downtown prime property being utilized. Kool.
  22. Hey, you are right. A little ribbing to Dallasboi. I know he's a youngster and he's having fun up there in Dallas. No harm intended.
  23. In 1990: Houston 1,630, 553 In 2005: Houston 2,016,582 +386,029 In 1990: Dallas 1,110,549 In 2005: Dallas 1,213,825 +103,276 I understand the "metroplex" proper is the 5th largest in the U.S. and we're a paltry 7th largest. But, that said, the City of Houston is yo daddy. Like they say, Dallas and Austin have the pretty boys, but Houston is where the men are.
  24. Failed, hell, I don't do the religious thing. It's all a made up bunch of crap anyway.
  25. I can't say it is ugly or beautiful. It is there. I do remember and think that if it were built on another block, that I'd like it better. Seems to hide a magnificent view of downtown's other buildings somehow. Oh, well, let's don't worry about it.
