  1. What a difference a week makes? 27-7 W for Texans and another L for Dallas. Dallas doesn't do as well when playing teams with winning records. Whipping a team only 5 yrs. old might make the Irving Cowchips' fans elated, but Philly and NY will get the last laugh. Hell, the Texans may have the last laugh. We have a long way to go. In Dallas, Giants pick and grin It didn't matter who was at QB for the Cowboys. Neither Drew Bledsoe or Tony Romo made much hay, combining for four interceptions and six sacks in a 36-22 MNF defeat.
  2. The Sun is the only one. Besides, Connecticut doesn't have the NBA; only WNBA. I belive the Comets are here to stay. Attendance will rise when the Comets put together a playoff caliber team.
  3. Let's see: HP now has Lucky Strike, House of Blues and lots of upscale restaurants. Financing in place. This is going to be BIG for downtown. Discovery Green is under construction. One Park Tower will be breaking ground. Rocbar is going up at Bayou Place. I noticed lots of construction in Midtown and across I-45 as well. Cool
  4. Thank you. It is only the design of that one particular building that (just my opinion) I didn't like. Uptown D is beautiful, well thought-out and my friends who were up there over the past weekend were very impressed with all the construction. Perhaps they need more Class A office space, but the vacancy rates concern me. Do they just leave buildings empty? Can the people who run those office buildings without tenants make money? Food for thought.
  5. One opinion on one building. Have I not been complimentary on others being built up there? You need to stop thinking that everything that happens in little d is all that and a bag of chips. I think that is one butt ass ugly building. However, I happen to think the W and lots of others in Victory are gorgeous. Deal with it.
  6. Galveston Highrise Houston's Island playground keeps getting taller and taller. Check out pic in the Chronicle.
  7. It is a beautiful mansion. But who would pay that kind of money to live 15 minutes from DFW AIRPORT? Lots of noise. More noise. They have been trying to unload this huge sack of s**t for nearly 5 years.
  8. I think it is unusual, but forgetting the name and focusing on the park: trees, a small lake, fountains, amphitheater, dog run, plus a 501 ft tower (One Park Tower) downtown means a lot to me. If you don't want to go down there, fine. I will bring my dog to this park. I can't wait! With all the rain we've had this week, GREEN it will be.
  9. If they build that thing, they are building a very ugly building. What's with all the flat tops up there? Is that what you guys are getting at the barber shop?
  10. One Park Tower located overlooking Discovery Green. This definitely sounds urban to me. The park itself will be beautiful. The tower as well. And folks, please, don't compare this to Dallas' Victory or whatever. This is Houston building and adding and making itself a better city. Do not compare to Atlanta or anyplace, please. Comparisons are only opinions which are useless in my book. Apples to oranges? Doesn't work.
  11. Isn't that the 64000 dollar question? Makes no sense to me. But I am a Texans fan and will be for life. I my town. By the way, Dallas can brag today about beating Houston (we suck); but let them play somebody .... hmmmm.... Philly perhaps? And watch them get plastered. P.S. My friends went to the game in Dallas. Had to park in a muddy field. Walked over a mile to the stadium and said the stadium was soooooo 1970's. Asbestos. Small corridors. Boy, they really do need to build a new one up there. Hell, the Astrodome is better than Texas Stadium. Houston and Dallas are 1-1 against each other in regular season. Doesn't sound so bad when you phrase it that way.
  12. Discovery Green I think Discovery Green will be a great park. When they named Hermann Park, did anyone have reservations about that name? Probably. I think the renderings show a beautiful park downtown. We need that more than simply building more skyscrapers (which is inevitable) or more parking garages.
  13. I stand corrected. Cook County and Chicago are experiencing white flight. The metro is getting the population growth, not the city proper or Cook County. Fortunately, Houston and Harris County still are growing and we haven't had an out-migration of that magnitude. This probably could be said about most large Texas cities.
  14. From the pics, Uptown Dallas is really booming. And with style. W Hotel is awesome. I don't see Downtown Dallas getting any new building since Uptown is taking the front seat. That is an interesting situation up there. It may turn out all good. Hopefully.
  15. And downtown also has a Popeye's Fried Chicken close to Macy's.
  16. Math is difficult for Dallas. They insist 1,250,000 > 2,016,000. So I guess 237 > 329. Houston generated over 104,000 jobs from Mar 2005 til Mar 2006. Area employers are finding it difficult to find IT people, engineers, etc. to keep pace with the job growth. So I would imagine lots of new people will be moving to the area to fill these high paying positions. Stay tuned .......
  17. Actually, that is old news. Houston now has 400 highrises. Dallas has 325. But, 28-story buildings are a dime a dozen. Gimme a 57 story skyscraper any day. Tell me Houston has one in the wings. I would believe that. Not another 26 story "thang".
  18. Jones Day. Cleveland based big ass firm. Nah, I'll work for my Houston-based big firm in a skyscraper rather than a house (11 stories) Did you guys notice that Uptown Dallas is short? Anyone have the scoop on the tallest building there? Curious george. Also, a co-worker told me that Houston was the world's fifth largest office market. Anyone know about that remark? P.S. Houston now has over 400 highrises. Texas Tallest Tower
  19. Uptown is the ritzy area. It has lots of $$$ highrise condos, hotels and of course one of the largest shopping meccas in the US, The Galleria. But I prefer working downtown. Downtown is still the king. You can live in Midtown or downtown and use the rail or walk and get to things. The sports venues are there; Reliant Park is only a train ride away. Downtown has come back from the dead. This began with the Rice Hotel renovation. Lots of people I work with live there. Now a beautiful park is being constructed along with a new 37-story awesome highrise. Houston Pavilions, mixed use with condos, retail, House of Blues, Lucky Strike, and a very 21st Century design will make it the place to be. The Galleria is still growing with Turnberry looking at constructing a new 42 story luxury highrise next to the Water Wall. There is a lot to be said for having two large business districts in one city. It impresses visitors. I take them to the 60th floor sky lobby at Chase Tower and they ask: what city is that? And they are pointing to the Galleria. Then I explain that Houston is B-I-G.
  20. I think I left out Energy Corridor and Woodlands. Is Westchase a skyline????? In Dallas: Fountain Place is a fav but I like the neon building too (at night). In Houston: BOA, Wells Fargo and Pennzoil are my favs.
  21. Avanti.... best place in that area. Thanks for that info. BTW.... our Dallas office has approx. 50 attys in Fountain Place. We got lots of bonding going on here, 'boi. I think it is a good thing. I am beginning to see that you are "allright" and we have far more in common than not.
  22. I can remember when Crescent was almost all alone. Gotta give it to Dallas, Uptown Dallas is moving right along. That might be why a city of 379 sq miles (or whatever) can focus on a particular project more realistically than the sprawling neighbor to the south of 600 sq. miles. We have 5 or 6 skylines going on, but they aren't together. All in all, though, unlike Chicago and Cook County, our metro Texas counties are not losing population, but gaining all the time. Houston builds taller, however. We have the Endeavor at 34 stories, twin towers Mosaic at 30 stories each and Hermann Memorial 30+ stories in TMC. I guess some cities are short and some are tall. Our Uptown is tall: 64 stories and downward to the smaller ones, twin 40-story condos. Our Downtown is well, y'all know that we have the tallest tower outside L.A. (thanks to their flagpole or whatever) and Houston will continue to build with "taller" is better. Rather, we'd be Washington, D.C. which I think is more clusters of 12 story buildings than I'd ever want to see again. Give me a view. Just my 2-cents and nothing more. 28 stories????? pleeez.... that's my house
  23. Central Park ... no way. I think that would be too copy-cat like (New York - argh - has that). Let's give it something we can relate to in Houston. I liked Tranquility Park (our park built during that part of the space program) for a name. Maybe something space-like or whatever. But not Central.
  24. You are too funny. Nah, we are OK now. We got started off on a rocky road. And don't blush on your post, i.e., no more circle jerks. I think HAIF has heard it all. I was about that remark. Until the next post, be kool. I'll be very kind to you since I know you are in the legal environment of 200+ lawyers and all that that implies.
