  1. What's with the steam locomotive pulling yellow passenger cars? It's running on the track, under UH-D (the one that runs near Washington Ave. The train's horn is awesomely loud and eerily haunting.
  2. Off Topic - How did Adobe get away with serving alcohol right across the street from a church/school. I'm comparing to the permitting issues over on Dunlavy (HEB/Fiesta Property).
  3. Maybe they're buying the Citgo and strip center as well. How close can you build residential next to a gas station?
  4. I never realized there was underground parking right there. I wonder what type of parking facility this place will have.
  5. The slab and some framing have been done for the day care center.

The plants are all dug out of the median where the new station is going in downtown. It looks like the early stages of construction. Does anyone know which design has been selected?

Ellen is making announcements at the train platforms. Like - "Hey Houston, it's Ellen, the next train arrives in 1 minute." then "Have to told someone you love them today?"
  11. They open in the Alabama on Friday. From Chron: http://www.chron.com/business/article/Trader-Joe-s-to-open-Friday-in-the-former-Alabama-3875622.php Cute - Crews created faux movie posters to play on the building's past. They include "Gentlemen Prefer Blonde Ales," "Reservoir Hot Dogs" and "Pulpy Fiction." There's a genuine poster of Jack Benny's "Man About Town," the first movie the theater had in 1939.
  12. We've not missed it this year, Matey. It's today.
  13. I was sent a cool shot of it flying near the AIG Tower. Pretty cool with the flag atop the building. I have no idea how to post it though.
  14. We just saw it. It flew from south to north on the west side of town. Then, flew west to east on the north side of town. Then flew out to Kingwood/Humble and circled back on the east side to the San Jac Monument and then on down to Ellington. Pretty cool.

Yep, there are barricades separating the sidewalk from the street. Also, the street is all marked up with orange paint.

It seems like I saw barricades on the sidewalk, this morning, near Ziggy's. I'll pay better attention this evening.
  17. I thought Smith St. was named after a Bob Smith. What is the name of that fountain on Smith, near the Hyatt?
  18. That bastard came through here 4 hears ago today. Curse you, Ike. I really miss my Bolivar beach house.

There will be a service interruption on the Red Line this weekend in order to install tracks for the new line. It will continue to run between Fannin South and DT Transit center. Saturday is supposed to be a ride free day, for Museum Day.
