  1. They started hauling in dirt Friday into the Harrisburg@Eastwood lot. Looks like construction should start very soon on this.
  2. Le sigh. If this is the front, it looks as bad if not worse than the Embassy Suites downtown. What happened with the other two prior renderings? They looked great. This one is a drastic downgrade and departure from those. Hopefully the unseen side looks better.
  3. I'm aware of the age of the bridge, as I grew up in this part of town. I just assumed the 610 Ship Channel Bridge would have taken precedence over this, as it is much older and need of replacement. While the new bridge rendering looks great it sounds like an unnecessary waste of money.
  4. Yes, the same builder named Townsites Custom Homes/Realty. Looks like in addition to these two projects, they have several other small townhome projects scattered around the East End. One on Burr (East of Lockwood) and another one on Lovejoy. http://www.townsitesrealty.com/projects.html
  5. Another townhome project by Townsite is coming to 4317 Harrisburg @ Eastwood. I live nearby and the sign has been up since early Summer after the existing structure was demolished. Some kind of soil/core sampling was happening last week also.
  6. Yes, definitely a few signature downtown buildings sprinkled here and there with cool lighting looks great but in recent years Downtown Dallas has gone overboard. I don't see this as a sign of insecurity because Dallas can definitely hold its own. While this buildings lighting looks very awesome, it's hard to stand out amongst all the others lit up. Not to mention, there seems to be no cohesiveness in the lighting from building to building which can come off as looking a bit tacky. But I do give them props for at least putting some kind of lighting up. I just hate Houston's nighttime skyline, a little would go a long way to highlight our skyscrapers at night.
  7. NO, just no! At least it'll look decent when the nameplate inevitably downgrades to a Best Western in a few years. But on the other hand, this building will have a purpose now instead of being disused and dilapidated.
  8. Yikes! While the "floating cube" concept is cool, it had already been done long ago similarly in Plano's EDS Campus. It's too bad they didn't stay downtown (building an urban campus instead) because that seems to be the nexus of where everything is "happening" today. Sorry but their old downtown building has more character and personality than this suburban monstrosity ever will.
  9. Unless it's a full fledged theme park (which I realize there isn't any space for one near downtown), then it's going to be lame. Not to mention, this looks cheap, too kiddish and out of place near our high density downtown. It's as if Fertitta is trying to recreate his Boardwalk/Pleasure Pier on a smaller scale in downtown Houston and that style development looks just plain wrong in an urban setting. IMO, if a developer is trying to attract a family/child demographic to their downtown attraction at least try to be aesthetically conscious of your urban surroundings in your development! Discovery Green is a great example of doing just that and tastefully. I guess we can't expect much change from Fertitta's usual cheesy projects.
  10. The second picture is of the former Northline Mall. I can see the Britts sign far in the distance and that store was only at Northline to my knowledge.
  11. Mayorial candidate, Ben Hall signed the petition against the ordinance. So he is definitely out for me. These kind of human rights protections should never be up to a public referendum. It's absurd and frankly if this ordinance fails, as my gut instinct tells me it will, Houston and Texas will only look like more of a national embarrassment.
  12. A project this size seems way of scale for little old Lovett Commercial. I hope they know what they're doing.
  13. Even if it is built I have doubts that the renderings they've released will be the final product. Wouldn't surprise me if it was watered down drastically.
  14. Marshalls and other suburban strip stores are directly across from the high end Galleria, in the heart of Uptown and have remained for decades even with all the towers surrounding them. Why anyone would think this Target store will deviate from the Houston norm of suburban abutted next to high rise/density is beyond me. It isn't going anywhere anytime soon IMO.
  15. Frankly, he's an embarrassment to our whole state. He hasn't a chance in hell at ever becoming President.
  16. Wouldn't this location be partially on the proposed path of TXDOT's I-45 re-routing?
  17. Wow! Awesome project. Always imagined this would make a great conversion to lofts.
  18. Yikes! Looks just awful and it doesn't even match the building. Should have left the classic stone cladding alone. Not every tower needs to look like it's sitting on top of a parking garage podium because essentially that's what this looks like now, albeit poorly done.
  19. Pretty disgusted and appalled at this but then again Houston embraces and encourages destroying its past with such a passion. I imagine the new building will look similar to the ugly ones surrounding it.
  20. I would imagine it was so traffic could still flow seamlessly on those two streets around the yet to be built convention center.
  21. Yeah only cause lots of employees, especially long time managers are leaving for greener pastures.
  22. I always liked Channel 11's old 90's "Spirit of Texas" intro and theme. It always felt like it had an air of sophistication to it compared to the other stations. A shame since their packaging in more recent times looks so cheap and gimmicky. I no longer watch much local news, so I really couldn't tell you which one I would presently like.
  23. I know, I know I'm nitpicking but that block they made for the signage up top is atrocious. To me, the signage would have looked better on the bricked sides.
