  1. how awesome would that be? Years back there was a bungee crane set up at Richmond and the loop where the Best Buy is now. Not as scenic as a river gorge, but hey. I loved jumping out of a perfectly good plane, so I'm definitely down for the balloon. I miss Astroworld. I love rides.
  2. My neighbor across the street travels frequently and he always uses the HPD watch service. The patrols come by regularly and will usually sit for a few minutes before driving on. Our constable will also do courtesy patrols if requested, but I don't beleive it is a formal program.
  3. Kinky is pulling out of the gov race, and will instead run for ag commish: http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2009/12/friedman_switch_1.html A good move, it seems. He won't take votes from Bill White, and after all, if a notorious populist like Jim Hightower can make it as ag commissioner, maybe Kinky can, too. I like the idea of being able to vote for an outsider for a major post and still support White for guv. post above was for the blog, here's the actual peice from the Austin reporter: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6769521.html
  4. With a confit of cow eyeball on the side. The smallpox dessert is a nice touch, Attica, since Feast appears to be more in the European tradition. On that note, it's lunch time. My low sodium microwave soup sure doesn't sound very exciting now.
  5. I haven't been over there in quite a while with McGowen all torn up. Wonder if business was hurting because of the construction.
  6. yum. barbacoa is the best. I ate it a lot in San Antonio but don't see it as much here. You know how tamales are done by boiling down a hog head for the meat? I think the traditioal barbacoa method is burying the cow head in a pit. I remember years back, most places only sold it on weekends (like cabrito) because it was a time intensive dish. It's great when people think barbacoa is just mexican 'barbecue' tacos. Always fun to explain what it was after people ate it. I like the idea of what Feast is doing, but can do without the skull as a garnish.
  7. that's what those little plastic things were that fell out of my sweater when I got home. It was great to meet Lockmat. I'm glad he took the plunge!
  8. Shockingly, my chocolate/rum treats made it all week in the fridge uneaten. Now I just have to remember to bring them.
  9. After wussing out last week on the weather, I'm soooooo ready for a good HH. And boy can I use a stiff Warren's drink. Holidays at the office are such a tragic parade of nasty potluck luncheons and passive-aggressive assistants and forced group recreation. Bleh. It's worse than dysfuntional family Christmas. If I get one more URGENT!!!!! email from the admin with the jingly hat, setting a microwave schedule for potluck casseroles ( yes, for real) or decorations detail, or white elephant gift exchange, blah blah blah, I'm going to lose it. By 5 pm tomorrow I will have had to politely decline at least my 5th crock pot of cheesy potatoes and bad grocery store pie. No, I don't want to go 'elevator caroling.' And for the love of God, please, please, no more Secret Santa Anything. Arrghh!!!!!! OK, rant over. Sorry. Thx for listening. See y'all tomorrow!
  10. Was he banned? Thought he left of his own accord. I've never complained about anyone. Although, Vines is the only person I've blocked (temporarily.) Then I grew to love him. Maybe there's a future for me and Marksmu, who knows?
  11. clearly you're not busy, so sanitize them nasty hands and come to the happy hour Friday.
  12. it's awesome because of Texas Vines. I heart Vines. Come back, Shane! So Attica, are you responsible for resurrecting the hand-washing thread? You know it's too slow on HAIF when people go digging stuff like that up. Speaking of Vines, he would probably call you Sciatica, cuz it rhymes, and then hurl all sorts of crippled old man epithets at you. Good ol' Vines.
  13. I know I'm biased by TV, but "HPD CSI" conjures images of some fat dudes with lint rollers, hefty bags and duct tape collecting evidence while they drop cigarette ashes and donut crumbs all over the crime scene. But given the lack of results on this investigation, you have to wonder. More uniforms on patrol won't take criminals off the street if you don't have the right investigative resources.
  14. While I don't begrudge her the Euro-Muse thing, I am officially tired of Penelope Cruz. Went to the movies today and even the preview for the new Almodovar film bored me. On the other hand, as much as I didn't like Chicago and generally dislike musicals, the idea of Daniel Day Lewis as a singing n' dancing ficitionalized Fellini will probably get me to go see Nine. The preview for Sherlock Holmes made it look pretty entertaining. The new Yes Men movie was great. Their best stunts yet.
  15. off the top of my head: Conoco-Philips Continental Anadarko Baker Hughes KBR/Halliburton Marathon Oil Cameron CenterPoint Sysco Are those not recognizable names in their fields?
  16. Wow, Chamo, is that your backyard party haven? If only you were more centrally located! From the looks of things, south and west of town got the best snow.
  17. yum. No scotch, but rum available. Need to find a hot buttered rum recipe. (which sounds vaguely pornographic...even better) Speaking of accidents, people leaving my office onto Allen Parkway were already driving like idiots. I'll be ready for those Warren's cocktails next week!
  18. A little closer to the ground, I'm on the 10th floor and it's a mix. I like how when it snows down here it brings out the excitable, dorky little kid in people.
  19. I'm with Niche and TJ on moving to next Friday. Holiday cheer + potentially icy roads not a good idea. Bummer, but safety first.
  20. uh oh, is weather going to be a consideration for us here?
  21. Must know more about thundersnow... It can only mean one thing: thundersnowballs!
  22. which is utterly meaningless if they lack the critical thinking skills to process the information. I don't believe Tiger understands enough to really know how to begin answering the question, and moreover, is less interested in learning and more interesting in entertaining himself online by concocting ways for people to engage him. If he really wants to answer to the question "where did Bush go wrong" he starts with an study of contemporary political history. Without that context you have nothing by filler, lies, and supposition--the cynical platitudes that clog the internets. If he really wanted to find answers, there's a big-ass university library in his town with people who could tell him how to go about organizing a meaningful search for answers. Tough love, baby! I want to see our Tiger become a useful, thinking, functioning adult and not another I-read-the-Wiki-entry mouthbreather. And I mean that.
