  1. And there goes your ad revenue that pays for all that vibrancy downtown.
  2. I'm giving up trying to understand, meme. As long as the content delivery device is shiny, people will swallow any type of advertising, apparently. And then ask for more! Bigger ads, surrounded by even more lights. Boggles my mind.
  3. working on their deep dark delicious tans. Except for the really white white people like me. Save me some room under the tree. .....And pass me a beer.
  4. I will be so happy if we win tomorrow for the sweep. (and it might just put us at 500). Went to the game last night. Outstanding bats! I missed the big 5th inning today, didn't turn on the tv until the 7th, but it looks like we did the same thing all over again. Valverde and Wright continue to impress.
  5. I suppose somewhere along the line I missed that there's always jazzercise class, or native dance demos and tai chi and stuff. Constant programming. Truly a park for the ADHD world. Do they have a no-added-stuff night? Adult swim? Me, I'm happy with an expanse of green, some dogs running around, and a place to get a beer. Assuming I'll be spending a few hours, some food. And it should not be difficult, exclusive, or overly expensive. The COH really needs to unf*** itself with regard to street food vendors, and get some tacos or some hot dogs on the streets downtown.
  6. Dude, it's Oakland. 34,000 isn't all that small. Means they could sell out more. They've had to share a stadium for so long, and unless it was playoffs, never filled it up. 'Baseball village' sounds horrible. Mixed use, plus baseball? So, I buy my 1.5 million dollar apartment, and for that price I get amenities... like baseball players? Or just baseball ambience, like parking bullshit and expensive chili dogs? edit: my bad, 32K stadium. Still plenty big.
  7. Next year is a ways off, and his current stats aren't that compelling---20thstdad is right, that RISP average is puny. On other hand, we would have someone that outweighs el caballo.
  8. I didn't realize who you were talking about until I scrolled back up through the thread. Christian is cool--has been a fixture on the scene for decades now. A nice, personable, dude. I first started hanging out at the Island in 1981. (His band, unfortunately, not all that. Really Red and Culturcide were the two big Houston bands, until DRI and speed thrash). I'm pretty sure he used to do a show on KPFT. Memory hazy..... My best friend had a crush on him until we were practically 30. He shops at Borders on Alabama quite frequently. He is also not one of those asshole scooter people.
  9. T, I'm with you. Bud Select for the lite beer drinkers. 2X lager for the people who put limes in everything and Shiner Bock for the rest. I'm not a fan of most St. Arnold's flavors. (Summer Pils the exception, but not a great pils, per se--not dry enough) Like many American made ales, most St Arnold's are, for me, too sweet and have too much going on. For a refreshing darker beer that's not too sweet, I really like Bohemia.
  10. Tonight was lovely. I can always count on my Stros to go put a hurt on Cincinatti. One of their few consistent things! Great bats. A couple of strike-outs that should have been at least doubles. A few very nice defensive plays--Tejada, Loretta and even the Puma, all back-handed like. Mark Loretta is one of those dudes that's been around a long time and just plays, consistent. At this point, he's on 3rd playing for the mysterious Ty Wiggington. I like Loretta. (And not just because he's my people)
  11. Not necessarily. I hear they have performance-enhacing drugs to fix that. Wow, don't hear much about that Tejada story lately. I try to focus on the positive. He can hit, and he actually knows how to play SS.
  12. Pervs! But since we're on the subject .... when does the skate park open?
  13. grr. Do you think this Hunter no-hitty thing is short-term temporary, or longer. Like an after the Big Rookie Year slump? I'm hearing more naysaying lately, but I think it's short lived problem. Just got home and stupid dish network is acting up. grrr.... edit: Excellent innings from Wright and Brocail. Yay! 2-1 win.
  14. Do you know what it means when your MMP seats are in dugout level? I was sitting behind home plate, in row 15. That seat section is referred to as 'dugout'. For people who go to MMP regularly, to say "I was in dugout" is interchangeable with "I was in section 114 (or 116). I left out the word 'section', my bad. And yes, I will generally complain about being surrounded by a-hole, non-fans around me when they impede my enjoyment of the game.
  15. My parents drove into town today to see the new park. My 65 year old parents who live in Katy, were excited enough to come see the new park! Mom was impressed with the crowd. ($10 to go to the park!") She asked if we could ride the bus from our house, and I told mom it was ok because we would just ride our bikes instead.
  16. the 'puma' is new this year. Yay! We won tonight! As long as we relegate ourselves to dueling sloppy pitchers, our very expensive hitters will make it a fun game. Good grief, it's going to be a long season. P.S. Tonight was an extra treat: I got to sit in the dugout, and it's true. The people down there don't really care about baseball. They do care an awful lot about their upcoming trip to the Seychelles.
  17. totally. The margins are so thin on fine dining now it doesn't take much. That's a shame; it was a little old fashoniod but the food at State Grille was excellent. Restaurants are starting to adjust menus for rent. Or maybe not, I've just never noticed it before. One of my sales guys told me the new Jimmy Wilson's at Post Oak was quite a bit more expensive that the far west location, for much of the same menu items.
  18. thanks! Speaking of food, hopefully mr crunch has some fabulous dinner plans. Although I'd be happy with some takeout from the 8s. I never understood Chuy's. It's not tex mex, it's...something. The beans are like mashed ranch style. All wrong. When they first opened we'd go for drinks, the margs used to be outstanding; actual fresh squeezed limes. Now.... I'm wary of any place that has as many t-shirt designs for sale as they have enchildada plates.
  19. The Social House sounds promising. I didn't know anyone in the South was doing this yet. Very popular in England and the Pac Northwest, at least from what I see in fancy foodie mags. I'm suprised to see Swig on the list. Very tired, very 90s. Hazelnut Choco-tinis and tourists, anyone?
  20. I used to never eat either, except for peanuts. Now that I'm going on Friday nights I'm considering it 'dinner out.' Only one inconsequential spill so far. The problem I run into is getting food early and figuring out how to hold the chili dog during the national anthem.
  21. I was reading recently how some MLB teams have started doing 'all you can eat' promos to sell the cheap seats. Houston does family specials (infrequently) for cokes, dogs and cheap seats. Prices are crazy. In the spirit of fiscal conservatism, I bought my seats this time around with the idea that I'd be taking one less vacation this year. Between the tix and concessions, it's about a $1,500 proposition, all told. I wish now I had gone last night ......but the important thing is getting that home opener win. Psychs everyone up. Especially when one of new guys earns his money like Tejada did.
  22. I'm definitely feeling the love for Tejada today!!! Actually, Ricco, I'm not in the beer line that much, lol. Shocking, I know. I'll give you a shout when I have games. Have Florida this Friday.
  23. I only got the 13 game pack this year. You have any Friday games, Ricco? I'll be in the beer line at section 109.
