GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
swtsig replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
this post in inanely moronic, and i'm not even going to waste my time explaining to you why. but kudos, nonetheless. -
nowhere in the article or video did wulfe say they were downsizing the hotel or scrapping the condo altogether... not saying that that won't be the case, but at this point that is purely speculation.

making loans with what money? the credit markets are practically frozen right now, especially for projects requiring larger amounts of capital... so no, banks definitely do not need to continue making loans. quite the opposite, in fact... banks are hording whatever cash they do have in order to ensure that their depositors are protected. and it isn't like this is an American problem, the credit markets across the globe are in serious strain right now, so our international exposure means little, i'd assume. if the resue plan works, you'll definitely seeing an easing in the capital markets but some projects are bound to get redone, postponed, or scrapped altogether.

pretty much ready? hardly. it is definitely an impressive project (imo) and an exciting one at that, but there's still a ways to go before it's complete.

Uptown Park: Uptown Shopping Center At 1121 Uptown Park Blvd.
swtsig replied to Sunstar's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
UP has never had a problem attracting the crowds, especially thurs-sat night. tasting room, cafe express, champs, uptown sushi, mccormick and schmicks, arturos (was there last night) et al always bring healthy crowds. but if it's seemed unusually crowded since ike, remember that practically all of tanglewood was w/o power until 8 last night , and UP has always been popular with the tanglewood crowd. -

but "shifting tide" implies that washington is taking some of midtown's business, and i'm just not seeing it. washington may be a hotter area right now, but there is still a lot of development proposed and otherwise in midtown to go along with the ever-popular nightlife scene. With our terrific job growth over the past few years, it just seems that Houston has attracted enough young professionals that it can support several bonafide "entertainment" areas... and that's a very good thing, imo.

i'll go ahead and admit that the pearl bar i loved just a few short months ago is no longer... at least on friday and saturday nights. lines, middle-aged men in skin tight affliction t-shirts with spiky hair and designer jeans, plastic women with too much botox, etc. what a damn shame, and i agree that that is not what bridgette was shooting for when she opened the place. i've still enjoyed myself on happy hours there, especially with the old-school funk and r&b DJ spinning out back, but the laid back friday or saturday nights of playing table some beer pong or flip cup or just relaxing with some friends are over... for now, at least.

stop being so obtuse.

no, being stale and complacent is always better than being adaptive and dynamic...

disagreed... BLVD Place will be the true tipping point in turning uptown into a world-class shopping/entertaining district... new 5-star hotels, 90-story office buildings, etc. people will be talking about Post Oak Blvd. like they do Rodeo Dr. in 10 yrs. HP, imo, is just going to be a small piece of the CBD puzzle. i think OPP and Discovery Green will/are having a greater impact on downtown than HP.

i'll remind my guests who travel in from i-10 and 610 that they're wrong.
