  1. do you not find the hypocrisy in any of this at all? do you think if a development like this would have gone up in a poorer part of town to the neighbor's dismay that the city would bend over backwards to get it halted? the residents of southhampton used their wealth and political clout to ensure that a perfectly legal and legitimate development would never see the light of day for their own selfish (and misguided) reasons.
  2. thank you. the notion that property values will decrease due to a high density development being built in proximity is a total farce
  3. the last thing i want in my food is dry ice and sparklers. or at least next to last thing
  4. very nice! i'll be sure to get together w/ some friends that live in the area and stop by once yall open
  5. you're referring to the aloft hotel currently under construction at westheimer and yorktown. there are also several other large mixed-use developments waiting in the wings right in the galleria area in prime intersections. i was told that one was around 1-1.5 years out, with another large development at least 3 years out. they've also constructed a plywood fence around the compass bank and parking garage on post oak... not sure what the timeline is for that property, but earlier (substantial) rumors had a very high end 5-star hotel + condo and retail going there, but this was probably 8 months ago when i heard that. and of course, with the economy the way it is, i would take all info being passed along with a large grain of salt
  6. was not aware there were plans for a second tower... any renderings?
  7. agree with you 100000%... easily my favorite project i have faith that the economy can start making a recovery by the end of next year, and if the price of oil increases back to $70+ range (and with what the fed is doing the dollar, it should) a lot of these projects will see the light of day.... just not for another couple of years but perhaps i'm just being optimistic because i want to see this thing get off the ground in the worst way (along with BLVD place, highstreet, and river oaks shopping district)
  8. it's already under construction the the largest components (ie the 53 story ritz, 37 story hanover, and flagship whole foods) all appear to be on hold and in the case of the hanover, scrapped altogether draw it up to simply having bad timing for houston
  9. so hanover owns the property where their highrise was supposed to go, so one would figure that they will put something there sooner or later... my bet is later, of course. also heard that the ritz is officially on hold and that there are rumblings that the whole foods is also on hold, although no real confirmations regarding the WF. dont shoot the messenger
  10. i believe it got scrapped/delayed, but i'm really not sure can anyone confirm?
  11. http://www.cbre.com/USA/US/TX/Houston+Gall...re.htm?pageid=2 there's a nice rendering of the office component (front left 10-story bldg) on the website that i cant get to upload for whatever reason
  12. it is much ado about nothing... i'm in no way in favor of tearing down historical landmarks, but the redevelopment that weingarten is doing will keep a lot of the art deco aesthetics that really make this shopping center unique. it's not like they're putting in some banal biege stucco structure. the fluster concerning the noise that a wine bar would bring is downright silly seeing as though shepherd and west gray isn't exactly a quiet intersection to begin with that being said, i vehemently oppose the demolition of the both the river oaks and alabama theatres.
  13. the burgers at the lake house are pretty damn tasty... now if only the food at the grove could catch up with the ambiance
  14. the painted plywood is temporary, soon to be relaced by glass retail front.... for the most part, at least.
  15. please tell me you're speaking in hyperbole. please.
  16. or that the exterior design of the new convention hotel is actually very similar to the hilton? i wouldn't put much stock in this particular rendering... seems to be more of a placeholder than an actual design. and anyone who thinks it will be 2040 or 2050 before we see a handful of residential towers, a new hotel, and a soccer stadium is out of their mind.... hell, i will guarantee that most of those go up by 2020
  17. the one posted here was some random building in san antonio built in the 80's, i believe... how that became associated w/ the HB building is beyond me
  18. the operative phrase in the whole article is "providing financing can be secured" who is financing $150M+ condo projects right now?
