  1. you sure are taking this imaginary project personally...
  2. well the dan duncan neurological center has a very promient 12-story or so (i think) "twisty" glass feature... better than nothing.
  3. while i would say something akin to the turning torso would be a tad ambitious, if there anywhere in houston that would take a chance architecturally, TMC would be the place.
  4. i'm with niche here in agreeing that this will happen sooner or later. redstone is a very solid company and this is a very prime piece of real estate. they may not break ground this year, but i would almost guarantee that it happens w/in the next 3 years.
  5. we were told just over a year ago that redstone was planning on developing a mixed-use project at this site which included hotel/condo/office/retail and that the hotel was a very, very high-end 5 star brand. mandarin or pennisula were the first two to pop in my mind.
  6. gotta agree with niche here... unless your residence has no private garage, parking garage, or private lot, i don't see where you get off petitioning the city to limit street-side parking in a very urban neighborhood to residences only.
  7. no offense, but just because it was significantly poorer and undoubtedly less popular does not mean it was cooler. i enjoy your blog (although i dont get to read it much anymore), but your condescending attitude towards practically all things new or popular has almost become cliche at this point. i mean i get where you're coming from for the most part, it just seems to be an overriding theme in a lot of your posts... or maybe those posts just stick out more to me, who knows. /derailment if you go, make sure you get there when the food is coming out fresh... getting there late after all is left are scraps and the pieces that have been sitting in the trays for hours is disappointing.
  8. yeah, i have some friends who have done a lot of urban planning and development work for this project and they have all gushed about it... pretty much the ideal mixed-use development that would thrive in that part of town.
  9. they only have 20 spots, so how bout you give them a break? i mean the guy is giving you a valid explanantion but apparently you'd just rather be ---- about it. i'm sure they won't miss you if you decide to never go again.
  10. i'm pretty high up in uptown and there were some pretty awesome photo ops this week, particularly of downtown.... if only i had a camera.
  11. nice desgin + removing yet another unsightly surface lot = win/win
  12. and the fact that it's basically just a glorified outdoor mall. for the life of me i still can't figure out why they didn't put a significant amount of street level retail that actually faced the STREET. 3 blocks of downtown and this is what they decide upon??? it's a farce.
  13. this is most definitely the case... price reductions are few and far between in houston right now, but as this economy continues to decline and the overall lack of liquidity in the capital markets continue to squeeze, many of those companies who think they can "wait it out" will find themselves desperate to sell in the next 6-12 months. houston is lagging the rest of the country, and the distressed assets haven't come to market.... yet
  14. refusing to sell alcohol in such near proximity to MMP is just a recipe for disaster... the food could be terrible but you could almost guarantee that the restaurant would remain profitable strictly due to alcohol sales. as presented, however, nothing short of spectacular food could have saved a restaurant like that with that sort of business model. the place was destined to fail before the doors ever opened... here's hoping a smarter restauranteur takes over the space.
  15. i would be thrilled with camden if that was an accurate rendering... fairly classical architecture with ground level retail is what midtown needs. whatever increases pedestrian traffic in the area
  16. regardless, it takes some serious skepticism to think someone would outright lie about something as easily verifiable as the demolition of multiple buildings near downtown but i digress... GO DYNAMO!
