  1. Is this just a proposal or has it been finalized?
  2. Yeah so much potential. I'd also be interested to hear what's going on with the Skybar building. I noticed they have an actual security guard sitting at the front entrance which isn't something you often see with abandoned buildings in Houston. That building is already setup for street level retail and seems like it could make some nice offices or lofts, but I've heard it wasn't well maintained over the years. Maybe that needs a new thread though.
  3. Oh wow this was posted on Swamplot shortly after I posted about this block: http://swamplot.com/...ale/2012-03-08/
  4. I think there was another thread on here about this somewhere but I couldn't find it so I started a new one. I noticed Schlotzky's Deli in the strip center on Montrose and Westheimer is now closed. That just leaves Speck's, Half Price Books, and the Chinese place I think. Somebody told me once that the owner was not renewing leases because there were plans to redevelop the site but there are "for lease" signs in the windows which leads me to believe that might not be the case. With all the activity on Westheimer (El Reyal, Hay Merchant, Underbelly, whatever Mary's and Ruggles are being tuned into, Uchi, etc), it sure would be nice to have something cool on this corner instead of a mostly empty ugly old strip center. I know the building has some historical value but to me it's just an eyesore now, and I'd rather see something on the site that doesn't have a huge parking lot in front so that it could match the vibe of the surrounding businesses. Anyways, I think this corner has a lot of potential (and I can walk to it in about 10 minutes from my place which is a plus), so I wanted to see what people on here thought about what might happen with it in the future. Here's a random photo of this photo from 2006 when I first walked by there on foot after moving to Houston and before I had a car. I almost forgot there used to be a Blockbuster there.
  5. Interesting. I wonder how long ago it was fairgrounds.
  6. Wow this is great news! Does anybody know why all the lots around it are called "fairgrounds"?
  7. Glad to hear it'll have retail. I always like the chance to have new places I can walk/bike to!
  8. I took a picture last saturday of all the beer taps.
  9. This isn't the greatest photo (taken with an iPhone in Montrose), but it's nice to see some cranes on the horizon!
  10. You can see the crane from the construction of this building way off in the distance...
  11. I work in the med center and I eat at "Go Fish" on the corner of Main and Dryden a lot of days for lunch (decent Bahn Mi and Vietnamese food and mediocre sushi). It's not the best but its okay. There's also a mediocre barbecue place around the corner from there, a mediocre sushi place, a Chipotle, and a Subway. In my opinion the Methodist cafeteria is nothing special, although one day I ate gator there which was kind of cool.
  12. Cool. The rendering didn't really show it but I'm glad they are planning for retail. That section of Midtown is pretty cool and a lot of the street retail / restaurants / bars / cafes / etc seem to be very successful so it makes sense that they would build more.
  13. Is there going to be retail like the rest of Midtown Square?
  14. Thanks. I'll continue to post photos if anyone is interested, as I usually walk by there a few times a week. It's not the most interesting project I guess but considering the locations (it fronts an off ramp and is behind a gas station) I guess you can't expect much. I hope it provides good services to those in need and doesn't just encourage more panhandling and urban blight around wheeler.
  15. I was walking down Richmond towards wheeler station when I saw this construction beside the 59 offramp. Does anybody know what it is? I'm guessing some sort of homeless shelter since I think that's what the building behind it is, but I really have no idea.
  16. Is this the building? If so I've already got a pretty good "before" picture (and a good view of it from my roof). I guess they haven't done anything yet, but when they do I'll post some more photos.
