Ruggles isn't exactly in Midtown and it seems pretty popular. Is it the Ruggles on Westheimer and Montrose that they are talking about demolishing?

Here are a couple old photos I found of Cabo.

The building looked great, and I liked the patio, but the food sucked big time and I never went back after my first experience there in 2006. What I've learned about downtown is that outstanding places can easily draw people in, even outside of business hours. For example, look at Bombay Pizza. I was there on a Sunday at 8 pm and it was still busy. Same with the new phoenicia grocery store and attached bar. But a restaurant that is overpriced and serves bad food is never going to make it anywhere in Houston, especially not downtown. Banging the optimist I am, I'm going to take this as good news, that hopefully a better business can take over that great piece of downtown real estate, one that wil better represent Hosuton and draw more people downtown than Cabo ever could.

Thanks for the videos. I'm impressed with the amount of rail I see so far. I can't wait to ride on these new lines.

Here's some info about the tower that is going up on this lot. In summary, 12 stores, 650,000 ft2, completion date is end of 2014. Could an admin change the title of this thread to "Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Building for Personalized Cancer Care"?

I went yesterday. I took the light rail and walked to the store, so I don't know how parking etc is but I was impressed with it. I was fairly busy at 8 pm on a Wednesday. There was a singer in the bar area and we ate some of our groceries while drinking beer in there The prices are surprisingly reasonsonable considering the uniqueness of the food and the location and they have an awesome selection of international foods, especially mediterranean/middle estern. The pomegranate tabulli from the deli counter was tasty. I'll definitey be going back.

I just thought I'd revive this discussion by posting a photo I took of the current state of Downtown Houston's lighting.

This is awesome. I've been saying that we need a non mall Apple store for a long time and I'm glad it's going to be architecturally interesting. I kind of wish it was closer to the universities, but beggars can't be choosers. Does anybody know what parking is like over there? I don't go to Highland Village stores very often.

Looking good. I'd love to see more photos closer up if anybody has got any.

I agree, this is a much more interesting bridge than the new bridge over Buffalo Bayou and Buffalo Bayou is a much higher profile area which is seen more often by visitors to the city etc. And most Bridges over Braes are usually extremely simple, not suspension bridges so my guess is that the suspension design was just for aesthetics. Maybe they thought that Braes Bayou was so ugly that it needed a really nice looking bridge to make it more desirable as a recreation spot...

Here are a few photos. Sorry they are nothing special. Maybe when it opens I can get a decent photo.

Thanks, I didn't know what that glass coating was called. Yeah it would probably be a great view. I eat up there on 15th all the time but it would definitely not make for good photos. PM me if you find a good spot with clear windows. My lab actually has a view of the Prudential building with clear glass but we're on a lower floor so I don't think it would work so well for photography either.- 111 replies

Hey do you work at TCH? Maybe we can have a TCH viewing party! There's a good space on the 15th floor with a view but the window is treated with little white dots or something so it's not totally clear or ideal for photography. I wish there was a clear window... Anyways, here's what it looks like today:- 111 replies

I looked at the safety notice again and it seems like it actually says the nobody is allowed outside in the safety perimeter zone on demolition day but, but it seems like maybe we can get away with being inside the building if we enter before the perimeter is closed.- 111 replies
