Thanks. I'll continue to post photos if anyone is interested, as I usually walk by there a few times a week. It's not the most interesting project I guess but considering the locations (it fronts an off ramp and is behind a gas station) I guess you can't expect much. I hope it provides good services to those in need and doesn't just encourage more panhandling and urban blight around wheeler.

I was walking down Richmond towards wheeler station when I saw this construction beside the 59 offramp. Does anybody know what it is? I'm guessing some sort of homeless shelter since I think that's what the building behind it is, but I really have no idea.

Does anybody know what the official status of the University line is? Is it on hold for funding? Or is it just scheduled to be built after the current construction is finished on the other lines?

I sure wish it would have retail. But I guess anything is better than the empty lot.

Is this the building? If so I've already got a pretty good "before" picture (and a good view of it from my roof). I guess they haven't done anything yet, but when they do I'll post some more photos.

Ruggles isn't exactly in Midtown and it seems pretty popular. Is it the Ruggles on Westheimer and Montrose that they are talking about demolishing?

Here are a couple old photos I found of Cabo.

I don't think so. Vegan means no animal products, so cheese and meat are made of tofu type stuff. I know, it sounds weird, but it actually wasn't bad (wasn't the best Mexican food I've ever had either). Definitely not your typical Mexican food. http://www.yelp.com/...al-eats-houston (Sorry to go off topic).

I drove along the north line after checking out Radical Eats (vegan Mexican food) and it was looking really good. I'm amazed at how much progress there has been. Here are a couple poor quality car window photos I took:

The building looked great, and I liked the patio, but the food sucked big time and I never went back after my first experience there in 2006. What I've learned about downtown is that outstanding places can easily draw people in, even outside of business hours. For example, look at Bombay Pizza. I was there on a Sunday at 8 pm and it was still busy. Same with the new phoenicia grocery store and attached bar. But a restaurant that is overpriced and serves bad food is never going to make it anywhere in Houston, especially not downtown. Banging the optimist I am, I'm going to take this as good news, that hopefully a better business can take over that great piece of downtown real estate, one that wil better represent Hosuton and draw more people downtown than Cabo ever could.

Thanks for the videos. I'm impressed with the amount of rail I see so far. I can't wait to ride on these new lines.

Here's some info about the tower that is going up on this lot. In summary, 12 stores, 650,000 ft2, completion date is end of 2014. Could an admin change the title of this thread to "Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Building for Personalized Cancer Care"?

I went yesterday. I took the light rail and walked to the store, so I don't know how parking etc is but I was impressed with it. I was fairly busy at 8 pm on a Wednesday. There was a singer in the bar area and we ate some of our groceries while drinking beer in there The prices are surprisingly reasonsonable considering the uniqueness of the food and the location and they have an awesome selection of international foods, especially mediterranean/middle estern. The pomegranate tabulli from the deli counter was tasty. I'll definitey be going back.

Cool. It'll make my walk to Wheeler station much nicer when it is complete.
