  1. I haven't seen any activity on the lot. Does anybody else have any new info on this?
  2. Wow this is in my hood! It would be really nice if there was some retail there! This reminds me of another proposal I heard about at Binz and La Branch which never got off the ground.
  3. Awesome! Soon I'll be taking the light rail downtown to see movies again!
  4. I snapped this photo during jury duty on Monday...
  5. Very cool! I'm going to look out for that next time I'm in the area.
  6. Damn, the thumbnail is broken and I can't edit my post. I guess I'll have to repost it. Texas Medical Center Panorama by J-a-x, on Flickr
  7. I made this panorama that I thought you guys might like. Click the link in the caption on the Flickr page to see it full size. Texas Medical Center Panorama by J-a-x, on Flickr
  8. I think the space under construction might be a restaurant.
  9. Sorry for the less than perfect image quality. I was at an amazing vantage point but it was getting dark AND foggy/hazy when I took this. The Embassy Suites looks so tiny sandwiched between Disco Tower and One Park Place.
  10. I'm not sure if it's too late after construction has finished to post in this thread, but since it's still in Going Up, and since that's the only section of HAIF I read regularly, I'll post it here. Here's 2727 Kirby as seen from the Med Cnter.
  11. Here's a photo of the Braes Bayou construction. You can see the site where the new bridge will be.
  12. I didn't know Columbia Tap went that far until I checked it out just now. That's cool but it's a bit out of my way since I'm coming from the other direction, but I might give it a try one day. In Google it doesn't look like the Dixie Drive bike path entrance goes continuously to the Braes Bayou path crossing of Columbia Tap, but I am hoping the google satellite view is just outdated. Also, I am guessing that Dixie Drive is where the fancy new bridge is going to cross Bray's Bayou in Hermann Park. Is that right? If so, that would make a lot of sense. Once that bridge is ready, I would have another way of getting to the Columbia Tap trail without cycling on the street.
  13. The trees will be awesome! I've been saying for a long time that there need to be more trees on the banks of the bayou. I am kind of sad that I can no longer ride the trail under the 288 while this is under construction. I hate crossing over and going past all of the cars on the 288 service road/onramp, but it'll all be more than worth it when this is finished. It looks like more of the trail will go under the bridges rather than crossing at street level when this will be done so it will be a nice change. I bike the area often so I'll try to post more photos soon.
  14. Does this really belong in "going up"?
  15. I also agree that Montrose needs a good new late night coffee study/reading friendly place. Inversion closes too early for me and I miss Cafe Artiste even though it was a bit grungy. Right now there is actually no cafes in Houston that I frequent for reading/studying.
  16. I'm glad to see some revitalization on this corner of Montrose! Now what we need is for that whole strip center with the abandoned Blockbuster to be replaced with something really cool...
  17. I rode into work today on a red metro train. I think they just covered the old train with some red film of some sort but I'm not totally sure. I also noticed there was text on it that said "Stop, think..." and I didn't catch the rest. Anybody know what the deal is?
  18. Seems like a lot of trouble to remove them, although maybe it's not as difficult as it seems. They must have a plan in place for hurricanes, so I guess they would need to be easy enough to remove/store for temporary periods. When does Hess move in?
