  1. Hmm. I wonder if Saint Arnold's would give me a years worth of free beer?
  2. All depends on if the rent is competitive. By the way, much of Rice Village has already been demolished over the last 20 years. For better or worse, I'll let you decide.
  3. The southwest Auchan on the Beltway was built new for the store. Remember the Beltway itself was new. Wasn't much around there at the time.
  4. True. They are not even close to being like Whole Foods. Unless they have recently changed their policies they don't even buy local goods/vegetables. If they have anything that says organic I would question it.
  5. DDT and Agent Orange. Nothing to worry about.
  6. No way they would compete with the NFL for TV viewing in the fall.
  7. Spent several nights camped out in front of the Coliseum, Music Hall and even Hofheinz Pavilion. Half the reason I quit going to concerts was when Pace Concerts took over ticketing and gouged everybody with all their "convenience fees".
  8. True about the lack of trees. I have seen some really big oaks removed in the name of progress. Crime is bad though in Bellaire, especially on the west side closer to the barrio. Drive that area and you will see much more burglar bars and gates.
  9. In an effort to be more politically correct they are now known as the Westbury Crackers.
  10. I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard rumors of this for about the past 50 years.
  11. True. Only underground stations played the full version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.
  12. All of those people didn't keep Astroworld around. I would love to see something like that here in the Houston area. As has been discussed before on this forum, Houston just doesn't have much to offer for tourist, and for such a large city, that's a shame.
  13. True. Galveston couldn't even hang on to Sea-Arama.
  14. The station was probably KFMK. It was the big underground station of the 60's. You saw Cream, Spirit and the Doors at Love Street? I saw all three in 68 but at either the Coliseum (Cream, Doors) or the Music Hall (Spirit). Some groups would go over to Love Street or The Cellar to jam after their gigs but those three were pretty established performers and not the small club type.
  15. It was sarcasm. It's really the City that I hate. I still think they could have put the building to better use as a performance/arts venue, but that's another argument. Sorry. I wasn't trying to upset any Osteen disciples.
  16. I second staying over night in a hotel in the Woodlands, but that's an expensive option for many people. And yes, Cynthia Woods is a huge success, but I still say summer is to damn hot for an outdoor concert. I miss the Summit, which is now the Goditorium. Damn that Joel Osteen.
  17. The good thing is all 6500 seats will be indoors. You can have the Cynthia Woods Pavilion in the middle of summer. The Woodlands Pavilion lists seating for 16,000 but over 9,600 is lawn seating. The Sugar Land one will have more actual seats. They may not attract the "festival" bands but should still attract some quality performers. Not having to drive to the Woodlands is the best part.
  18. There has never been a Houston Festival that topped that one and likely never will again. I remember parking somewhere in Montrose and pulling our then 2 year old daughter for blocks and blocks in her little red wagon to Allen Parkway. We never got close to the stage but we had a great view of downtown Houston. It was being simulcast over some radio station and there were plenty of "boom boxes" around so we didn't need to get any closer to hear the music.
  19. I don't know about near Greenspoint but there was one closer to I-10 when they opened. The Bangles were featured.
  20. The original plan was to have the Fort Bend Tollway connect to Post Oak and 610 but because of it's limited use I believe that plan has been put on scrapped. Hwy 90 wouldn't be bad if they could do something about the 610 back-up. Westpark was doomed to start with since the railroad wouldn't give them enough land to make more lanes. I agree 59 is getting really bad.
  21. I'd take the bling. Records are continuously broken.
